6-5 is owning? :P

we should have blown them out so bad.

for like 3 innings in a row we had runners in scoring position & they pitched there way out of it.

Phillippe Aumont, for Canada, is FUCKING NASTY! i cant wait til the Mariners call that kid up; just throws straight gas & got some nasty curve.

anyway, good win by the US; but we should have blown them out.

we win our Pool & we'll advance. 8)

You guys gotta quit watching so much TV. ;) The media is making it look 10x worse than it really is.

The recession effects everyone in the US (either directly or indirectly.......food prices, etc), but who it's really bad for is the people that let it effect them to a further extent.

Sure there's been massive layoffs, but people just have to work for that rebound. They may not be able to get in to the same position right away that they just got dropped from, but being unemployed for months at a time because "there's no jobs out there" is just lazy & rediculous.

I'm not gonna lie, free healthcare would be nice, but the last time I had to go to the doctor was probably when I was 16. In the big picture of it all, chances are the free healthcare part won't effect me too dearly unless I'm diagnosed with something life-altering (*knock on wood* in the future. For the last decade though, I've been good.

I'm only 24 years old, been in management for a while now, do all my own hiring & I KNOW there's many jobs out there (I actually hired 5 new emplolyees in the last 3 days), but it's just people's preference's/greediness that is holding them back.

Yea you don't want to live here right now. I am recently laid off, my aunts and uncles got laid off, my cousin is laid off.  and I cant find a fucking job thats the worst part about it. Normally it would take me a couple of weeks to land a job. I have been out 5 weeks and I have sent my resume to over 40 people and I have only had one response.

When you are in a job market with the state with highest unemployment rate is the highest (i live on the Rhode Island border) There is a lot of competition for vacant spots. I was doing finance when I got laid off. In the meantime I have been looking for any type of work possible and even the low end jobs are drying up.

I'm not hating or trying to be all "big brother'ish" or whatever because I know it's not the same for everyone, but I know fast food (McDonalds, Taco Bell, Burger King, etc) has a VERY high rate of turnover for their employees, have you tried these types of establishments yet?  Janitorial work? Graveyard roadcrews out here are ALWAYS trying to hire new people (I think they start at $18/hr as well), etc.

It might not be as good as what you were doing before, and the job may just downright suck, but it's a hell of a lot better (IMO) than just being unemployed. Sure, you could be collecting unemployment checks, but.....

When I am doing an interview with a potential employee the very 1st thing I always ask is "Are you working right now?". About 75% of them say "No." & I always follow it up with "Why?".

If someonen is working at McDonalds right now but is just trying to move on to a different job I have a lot more respect for them than I have for someone who's application/resume states his/her last job was back in September 2008, and they answer my "Why?" question with "There just hasn't been any job openings out there.".

But like I said, a lot of it has to do with preference, because no matter how bad someone is doing financially, there's just some people out there that say they will never workin fast food, etc. So I guess that's up to them (not saying that's your case, but just mentioning what I've found from experience).

Your a year older than me no need to give advice. I was making 75k a year in my last job do you think i would really go work at McDonalds. Hmm I can keep collecting my $643 unemployment check a week or I could just go work for 7$ an hour and make 200 a week.

Hahaha.....wasn't trying to "give you advice", but just throwing my two cents out there as it relates to the whole situation.

Hmm I can keep collecting my $643 unemployment check a week or I could just go work for 7$ an hour and make 200 a week.

And thank you for proving the point I tried getting across which was "It's a person's choice/preference/etc not to work right now.". Hopefully you have found a good job to make up for that unemployment check by the time your unemployment term ends.

Sorry to everyone for turning this in the economical direction lol. Back to baseball...... :)

team canada has some really good players.  russell martin, joey votto, justin morneau, jasaon bay, and some good prospects for MLB clubs.

so they aint exactly playing with scraps.

shit, the netherlands...NETHERLANDS beat the Dominican Republic.   one thing ive learned from watching baseball is, there could be a "favorite" but that dont mean jack shit once the game starts.    btw, the netherlands face the DR again tomorrow....looser goes home.  gonna be interesting to see how the DR handles it.  lol
