I didn't see last night's game, but I can't stand it when he spazzes out on the court and starts shooting everytime he touches the ball, which he's done pretty regularly both this season and last season. It's just that last season he actually made the shots.

The problem with Sasha is that he really thinks he's Oscar Schmidt or something like that. When he receive the balls, the only thing he can do is to shoot. He does it as soon as he receives the ball. That means you can't really leave him on the floor for longer than 2-3 minutes per time, cause he'll take 10 consecutive shots in them 2-3 minutes, and you'll end up having only short possesses of the ball, with offensive actions that will lasts 10-14 seconds max. Somebody should force him to pass the fucking ball and to play the triangle system. He can defend pretty well, he's a pure shooter, but it looks like he plays for himself more than for the team.
If only Phil was less a zen master and more a good coach..............

What a coach CAN, and HAS to do...is hold people accountable for poor D. Coaches seem to pull players when they arent playing well on offense. Fuck that. Yank em when they slip on D. Where Phil's problem is, is that his star is Kobe. No matter how much some these Laker fans are in love with Kobe, Kobe DOES slack off on D sometimes. Theres a reason so many people say "Kobe can be a good defender, when he wants to". Thats one of the things I respect about Popovich, he has no problem yankin anybody out of the game (Duncan included) if they are doggin it on defense. That kind of coaching sends a message to the entire team. Phil cant do that tho, because of the personality he's dealing with in Kobe.

Kobe can be a good defender, but Ive seen him slack off from time to time. The team as a whole though, not JUST him. Like I was saying, theres a reason why so many experts follow up the "Kobe is a great defender" line with the "when he wants to" line. Duncan throughout his career has been regarded as one of the best defenders in the league. Multiple all defensive teams. But Popovich has still sat him, Parker, Manu down when theres a lack of effort on D. Shit, Ive seen Pop sit the entire starting 5 all at one time just to get the point across. And it does, if your coaching guys who believe in the team concept. Yeah, pullin Kobe off the floor for lackluster defense might make things on the floor chaotic for a little bit...but so be it. It would send a huge message to the entire squad. Sometimes you have to take a few L's in order to be successful on the larger scale.

my problem with Farmar is he makes those stupid bounce passes and they get stolen half the time, everything's erratic when he's at the point
Walton has good ball movement but he's the worst shooter I've ever seen, he bricks easy shots 4 feet from the basket, he looks scared (it's like his 6th season!)

As for Sasha, all he needs to be is a decent defender for 10-15 minutes a game and be able to hit spot-up jumpers. When he is forced to create offense, you can't be too upset, but when he keeps misfiring on open 3's is when he irritates the fans.

I can dig it. Though it will never happen, that would be the way to send the message. Kobe wouldn't want to leave the floor, because the other side of being a great leader is that you always want to be on the court. Another important factor is playing minutes with the rest of the team, because most players are taught that if they want to see minutes, they need to get after it on D. Powell & Ariza seem like the only Lakers that really identify with that.

Yeah, Kobe obviously isnt the PROBLEM defensively. But he is the leader. The team will take on his attitude. Duncan has NEVER been the problem defensively for the Spurs, but Pop has still sat him and others down if the defense isnt what he wants it to be.

As for Sasha, all he needs to be is a decent defender for 10-15 minutes a game and be able to hit spot-up jumpers. When he is forced to create offense, you can't be too upset, but when he keeps misfiring on open 3's is when he irritates the fans.
Naw, its not that he's too good to take out. Obviously, the Lakers are better with Kobe on the floor. Just like every other team with their superstars. My point was, If your team starts playing sloppy D...and you want them to understand that bad D wont be tolerated...sit the biggest star down the minute his D gets sloppy. If Kobe is a true leader, he would be ALL FOR IT. If you have role players not giving it their all, wouldnt seeing Kobe get sat down for poor defensive play get their attention like THAT?! thats why the Spurs were so good defensively for so many years strait.
