Title: Crooked I In Talks With WIDEawake Entertainment
Post by: EFFeX on March 10, 2009, 05:49:03 PM
FROM: http://www.thebossboard.com/article.php?newid=77 (http://www.thebossboard.com/article.php?newid=77)

Quote
In the last week or two many die hard Crooked I fans were disappointed when they lost the chance to purchase a bootleg copy of Crooked I's "Say Hi To The Bad Guy" album. However, fans may have a second chance in hearing the classic material as Crooked I is in talks to legally obtain his Death Row Records catalog from WIDEawake Entertainment. For those who are not aware, WIDEawake Entertainment is a Canadian based company that recently bought the rights to Death Row Record's entire catalog. While the company has not made any official announcements of what they plan to do with their newly purchased goldmine, it is no surprise that artists are approaching them for business propositions. There are no specifics regarding the talks between Crooked I and WIDEawake Entertainment, but we are keeping our fingers crossed that they work something out.

NOTE: The Twitter update says, "Wake Entertainment", but that's obviously a typo...

Hope he gets to purchase and release it.

If not, some rich crook fan should buy the material and put it out for free.

I just mainly follow these new mixtapes on dubcnn and download the new stuff by household names (Kurupt, Nas, Cube, The Roots etc.), THE ONE artist I check for is Joell Ortiz. It's kinda hard to find shitload of music to breath when 90% is bullshit and you gotta go to underground if you wanna find them.

Hypothetically speaking, if Crooked were to somehow get his Death Row material back by the spring/summer months this year, I'd just package "Untouchable" & "Say Hi.." in a double-disc format and let it go for free along with the BOSS album. That way people will have 3 albums worth of solo music to hold them over while he focuses on the SlaughterHouse project. He's already said that he won't be releasing a solo retail album until after a SlaughterHouse album is released, so if that's the case, then give your fans those 3 albums to tide them over in the meantime. At the very least give them BOSS, if not your Death Row albums.

Personally, I'd rather hear his Death Row albums first, and then BOSS for the sake of chronology. I'm interested to hear his evolution from "Untouchable" to "BOSS".

Meant to add to my above statement concerning the double-disc format that for those who were interested in purchasing hard copies, he should sell them through CD Baby. Otherwise just let it go as a free digital download.

He should just release them digitally like he did Block Obama 2, he would get some money & fans get what they want.

But Crooked I would fuck it up for us; he'd release it song-by-song.

I was just checking out Wideawake entertainment's website.  While there's no mention of the Crooked I music, specifically, there is a bit of news regarding the Death Row Catalog in general.  According to what I read, there is supposed to be a news conference sometime between today and Saturday, where they will announce their plans for Death Row Records, including a website where you can download never-before-heard songs.

Thanks Johnny for the find. The Death Row ad looks promising but the first pdf talks about a new 2Pac album coming.. I don't see how they can release anything without Tupac's mother stepping in.

Evergreen and Amaru have to clear it for them to release it. Also, if they got definitive plans for it, obviously they have.

At least this further proves that Crooked was in talks with them this week. I hope they reached an agreement. At least it looks like Crooked will get paid for these albums since they're pushing the Death Row catalogues through KOCH, so that's a plus.
