My prediction for my team the Royals 09....
Predicted Record: 75-87
Finish: 4th place Division
Coach: Trey Hillman microanalyses everything. I've always felt in baseball when it comes to managing that less is more. He changes the lineup too much and interferes with the delicate mechanics of pitchers and hitters when I think he shouldn't.
Offense: The Royals will have much improved hitting this year. Additions like Jacobs will boost their power numbers. Coco Crisp will be a solid addition bringing speed and hitting for a solid average. I expect 3rd year guys Butler and Gordan to emerge some this year. Teahan's had a hot spring, and it's possible he could have a breakthrough season this year at second base. Mike Avilles may emerge into the best hitting shortstop in the league this year.
Defense: The Royals have a solid ballpen, with All-World closer Joakim Soria will have another great year, while the rest of the pen will be solid. But I think the Royals will ultimately fail this year because their starting pitching will let them down. Our 2 horses, Grienke and Mesh will let us down. Grienke will get smashed on and lose his head, and Mesh will be nagged by injuries all year long. We never had a 3-4-5 to begin with, Hillman will try out many candidates to fill out our rotation, and the only one who may experience some success will be Kyle Davies.
.....One last note... Baseball isn't fair to small market teams. Something must be done about this. And don't give me stories about the couple teams that made it, like the Devil-Rays, because it still doesn't make it right.

Dodgers win it all.
-
Jays - .500 ;)
-
Angels - 1st in the AL West (will any other team in the West even go over .500??)
91-71
Angels will make the playoffs easy, and if we play anyone but the Red Sox in the first round, we'll get to the AL series championship, which we'll get eliminated by the Red Sox.

predictions
rays 91-71
red sox 91-71
yankees 91-71
and my yankees win by tie breaker LOL

the rays aren't going to do as well. they're a flair up like The Saints and Warriors.
anyways i predict the dodgers and angels to win the al and nl west.

The A's win the AL West if not then 2nd place :-\
-
the Yankees take the division, the pennant & the ring! 8)

baseball is hard to predict... I just can't do it
-
Blue jays give me high hopes once again but barely crack 500 in another wasted season and then somehow Jp retains his job.

I don't know what to really think about the Jays. Their rotation really took a big hit and it's hard to say how the young guys will do. The bullpen should be rock solid again. I have a feeling the offence will be better than next year, I think Snider will make an impact this year and move up the order to maybe the #5 slot by June. Everyone is predicting .500 and the books have the over/under at 80.5 wins. I'll say I little on the low end, 78-84 :(

The A's find a way to be competitive. The Twins year in and year out as well. The Rays through great scouting and development will have a great team for the next few years. The Rangers have the best farm system in baseball and will dangerous next season and for many seasons to come. Small market teams find a way. Sure it's not an even playing field for smaller market teams, but they also have the luxury of having time to build a good team while big market teams it's win now every season. Plus it doesn't help that you root for one of the worst run sports organizations in all of America. A lot of these smaller markers have great farm systems while the Royals have two impact bats down in the minors and it's barren after that. Even if Baseball imposed a salary cap it still doesn't mean teams like the Royals and Pirates will spend any money. Or make smart moves, c'mon Jose Guillen, why even spend the money to sign that bum. He was one of the worst everyday players in Baseball last season. Imposing a salary cap won't make the Royals and Pirates draft well or actually have decent player development. Yes the system isn't fair but at the same time the Royals do nothing at all to help themselves out.

phils gonna win their division but lose in the playoffs maybe or might lose in the world series, im a lil worried about pitchin, they'll have a slow start with cole hamels off right now, and no jc romero for 50 games, moyer is iffy, but they will get hot at the right time
-
NY Mets... 85-77 third place
The team looks good on paper but something imo is missing big time. Plus that cock sucking piece of shit Luis Castillo is still on the team. I would love nothing more than for a 18 wheeler to drive into his car and decapitate him. That will always be the dream though. The rotation after Santana and Pelfrey is a question mark. The bullpen is completely revamped but I think carrying only one lefty in the pen will hurt big time. The bench sucks. I just don't have any faith in the Mets this season.

the Muts are definatly making a STRONG push for the Wild Card.
i dont think they cant see the Phils, but they can take the rest of that division & anyone else in the Wild Card.
the Mets got one of the best lineups in the NL & any team with Johan starting a game & K-Rod closing it out, always has a good chance.
keep ya head up Fits! ;) 8)

idk, but i hope the dodgers win 90+ and make it to the WS and kick some AL ass!! :bandit:

they got the NL West; 90 wins? i dont know & WS? i REALLY dont know lol.

If the Dodgers played in the East or the Central they wouldn't make the playoffs. But they play in the West and I think they are that one team that doesn't deserve to make playoffs but will get hot and make it to the WS.

The one thing the Mets have in there favor is that the Phils bullpen will not repeat last season. Lidge is back to pre phat albert home run but I don't think he will be perfect again. And the rest of the pen were a bunch of bums that had career years. They won't repeat that performance. That being said I still think the Phils take the division. On paper I don't care what anyone says the Mets have the better team now. But something is missing with the Mets that you can't put into words. They just aren't a World Series caliber team.

How am I hating, I predict you guys make it to the WS only to lose to the Sox. I think two teams will have a better record than the Dodgers but they won't make it to the playoffs b/c of the division they play in. And if thats the case I don't think they deserve to make the playoffs and that goes for any other team that may happen to. Though I wouldn't change the current playoff structure you should make the playoffs even if some teams miss the playoffs but have a better record.

Damn Sox, the Angels have lost year in and year out to the Sox in the playoffs. Ever since Donnie Moore in 1986, the Angels just could never beat the Sox in the playoffs. A total 4-13 against the Sox in the playoffs. I pray for David Ortiz to pull a hamstring or something... lol... j/k

I agree with Tommy... I don't think he's hating at all
as a major skeptic when it comes to the Dodgers, I think they'll win the West but the WS is only a dream...
not saying they couldn't do it, I just have a hard time grasping their pitching shutting everyone down throughout the playoffs
no matter if they have 5 aces or not... that's just always how I'll think
the way Tommy is with the Mets, that's how I am with the Dodgers

Jose Guillen was a 20-100 guy, 20 homers and 100 RBI's those are the power numbers that the Royals hoped for when they signed him and he delivered. Leading the team in those categories. So how can a 20-100 guy be the worst everyday player in the league and a bum?
And I don't buy your argument about small market vs. big market. Living in New York you can't understand. The Royals were competitive in the 80's and 90's and they used to beat up on the Yanks when George Brett was in his prime.
When the strike came in 96 things kind of changed, and now the Royals have 1/3 the payroll of larger market teams. How can you compete against teams spending 3x as much money?
I do agree the Royals have made many mistakes. A lot of their prospects have never developed...but really many have, they were then stolen by the larger markets after we developed them, look at this list of outfielders that came up in our system and were lost to larger markets....
1. johnny Damon
2. Jermaine Dye
3. Micheal Tucker
4. Carlos beltran

Being a fan of the yankees is like rooting for wal mart to put out all small business

My team is the Giants, and I see them surprising a lot of people and contending for the division (made easier because the division has fallen off), but finish 2nd. They have depth in the rotation, but they come with a lot of questions outside of their top 2 of Lincecum and Cain. Johnson is old, Zito is ineffective, Sanchez has control issues, and Lowry hasn't pitched in over a year, I don't know if he has anything to offer. The lineup will be aggressive on the basepaths and play solid defense, but the clutch hitting isn't there and it doesn't have a power hitter that will intimidate anyone. Pablo Sandoval will be top 3 in ROY voting and be their best hitter, but they won't have quite enough to make the playoffs.

In regard to Jose Guillen... I got this from an CNNSI article...
*That would be Jose Guillen. I KNOW that Jose Guillen was one of the worst everyday players in the American League last year. I know this. He's an awful fielder. He can't, and often doesn't, run. He had a .300 on-base percentage, which is abominable (third-worst among corner outfielders). He had a .438 slugging percentage which is barely one step above abominable for a guy who was signed for $12 million per so he could hit with power. He was a total pain in the Hillman. And while he had a smoking hot 44-game stretch in the middle of the year (.380/.391/.659 with 10 home runs ... and, yeah, two walks), the other 109 games he was, no exaggeration, the worst player in baseball. He hit .215/.263/.344 as a lousy fielding corner outfielder with an attitude ... you simply can't pay enough for that kind of dreadfulness.
Just type in google Jose Guillen worst every day player and you get plenty of articles. And ribbies are a horrible way to gauge a players production. Jose Guillen was a HORRENDOUS move by your front office.
Now on to the big market vs small market argument, well before I get on to that. You have Jermaine Dye as someone who came up through your system. He came up through the Braves system and was actually traded to KC for Michael Tucker. So you can't have them both you can only choose one. I would go to with Dye b/c Tucker was a nice little ball player but to act like he was an organization changer is laughable. Now on to the big market small market argument. The Mets from 2001 through 2004 spent more money than just about anyone in baeball not named the Yanks and were one of the worst teams in baseball. So a team spending money doesn't mean shit if you don't spend money smart. And that is easier said than done. But lets say Major League Baseball imposes a salary cap, what makes the Royals change how they are ran ? While smaller markets like the A's, Twins, and Marlins find a way to stay competitive and build contenders over time the Royals have consistently sucked over time. And the Royals spend more than the Marlins but the Marlins find a way to build a contender every few years while the Royals haven't been relevant since David Cone won that that Cy Young in 94. The twins find a way to stay competitive year in and year out spending around the same if not less than the Royals. What is the the Royals explanation for that ? In the early 2000's the A's were one of the best teams in baseball and they spent around the same as the Royals while the Royals sucked ass. The Texas Rangers have sucked just as much as the Royals in recent history but now have one of the best farms in baseball and will be something serious next year and for years to come while the Royals have a bottom 10 farm system. Whats the excuse for that ? Is the current system fair to small markets, No it is not but other small market teams have found a way to stay competitive year in and year or have found a way to to contend every few years while the Royals have not. That has nothing to do with the lack of parity within the system but rather the fact the Royals are the second worst run organization in baseball and one of the worst in professional sports.

And btw Mike Jacobs is a borderline everyday 1st basemen. Yes he has some pop but his OBP is horrendous and dude is a horrible defensive 1st basemen.

Being a fan of the yankees is like rooting for wal mart to put out all small business
muaha. you coulda got your ass kicked for that back in 2000-2003 even though it was true. Thank God everyone hates them again.

Jacobs may not be great, but he's definitely an upgrade from Ross Gload. I'm very happy we have Jacobs this year. When your on a team as bad as the Royals you can even get excited over Mike Jacobs. You wouldn't understand this though.
And as for our argument over small market vs. big market.....
Yo Tom; trust me, I know just how bad the Royals suck, and how many mistakes they've made in the front office over the years that have contributed to that.
But your Yankee's have made a hell of a lot of mistakes too. But they can always buy their way out of it. When the Royals make a mistake and draft the wrong player, they usually find out 5 years later he was the wrong pick to make, and then they have to start all over and build their franchise around somebody else.

I got tickets may 6th when the Phillies come to town. And the way the new stadium is situated, the only thing separating the Phils bullpen and us fans is a chain link fence ;D

OK lets get one thing fucking straight you stupid fucking cock sucker.... I HATE THE FUCKING YANKEES I HATE THEM WITH A FUCKING PASSION YOU STUPID FUCKIN COCK SUCKER. EVERYONE AND THERE MOTHER HERE KNOWS THAT I AM A METS FAN AND I WOULD NEVER CHEER FOR THE YANKEES UNDER ANY FUCKING CIRCUMSTANCES. AND DON'T FUCKING TELL ME I STILL DONT UNDERSTAND B/C I CHEER FOR A TEAM THAT ARE HISTORICALLY LOSERS AND HAVE TO SHARE THE SAME CITY WITH THE YANKS.
And if you still want to say I don't understand. In the history of the Royals they have a higher winning percentage my Mets.... .485 to .480. So don't ever tell me I don't fucking understand what its like to cheer for a loser you fucking jerk off
OK now let me dismantle your post b/c you know jack shit about baseball and I know more about your own fucking organization than you do.
Mike Jacobs actually came up with the Mets, bet you didn't know that dip shit. I also follow the Marlins closely b/c they play in the NL East and I like a team of young kids busting there asses. So I know Mike Jacobs very well. Yes with his bat he has some pop and thats about it. I can understand getting excited about him compared to what you had last season but his other poor batting statistics and poor glove more than wipe away what he does bring to the table.
On to the small market vs big market argument... how come you COMPLETELY ignore other small market teams I mentioned that stay competitive ? I shouldn't go on anymore until you have a legit argument for that. But I will go on and I will try and keep it short b/c I have to go to the gym. But you mention the draft. If you are building your team around just one kid you draft and it takes your organization 5 years to figure out this isn't the kid, than your organization is in a lot more trouble than the big market vs small market bull shit. Up until the Alex Gordon pick in the 2005 draft the Royals were notorious for not just passing on the best talent available but drafting much lessor players just so they wouldn't have to spend any money. C'mon other smaller markets don't even do that. I'm done for now until you can respond to other small market teams that stay competitive

Yo homie... you need to relax. We are talking about sports. This isn't life and death. It's grown men playing a kids game. I'm not about to take an argument over the Yankee's to that kind of level. If major league baseball fell off the face of the Earth I would not lose any sleep.

No its not a game, it's a religion. And stop avoiding my question dip shit.

No, once you started cussing and going crazy you took it to a fanatical level that I'm not at all interested in going to, because I don't care enough about MLB to take it there. If you care about it that much, then good for you, but I'm not interested in it like that.

No you called me a Yanks fan thats worse than talking shit about my family. OK I'm done cursing lets dead it and get back to the original point. How would you change the current system and even if you do how does that change the fact the Royals are ran like trash ?

They just need to make the system the same as basketball and football. I don't know how that works exactly, I think it has to do with having a salary cap and market sharing.
Well, the Royals can't buy their way out of mistakes like the larger market teams can. So if it was structured differently, then their mistakes would not be magnified as they are.

Baseball has revenue sharing and what about other small markets that are building contenders despite the disadvantages. Most of the Royals problems stem from how they are ran and not the system they play within.

you said that already

But you keep on putting most of the blame for the Royals woe's on the system they play in. You're trying to make it out that small markets have no hope when that is quite the opposite. And out of the 4 major sports in America Baseball is just behind Football in terms of parity. Thats the point I am trying to make but you won't respond to, you continue to blame the system.

we spend money, but what the fuck do we have to show for it? we sign guys who are supposed to help us (schity) but get hurt and toss a total of 25 innings...for 45 some odd million. jesus, i want that fucking job!!! lol
or guys like pierre, who i like as a player...but sign him to fucked up contract where hes making damn near 10MM a year to steal bases and block players.
or that latest signing of the fucking fat ass webble wabble, jones. 18MM for a performance that some kid in single A coulda matched...and possibly even raised!!! fuck you andruw jones, i hope you choke on cock you fucking faggot.
so anyway, after all those mistakes...it finally looks like our GM grew some brains and put a team together that truly has a shot at making the WS.
-
^i dont give a fuck what you show for it, your still out there spending; which is good.

LOL that was some shit, I'm glad he was ok. The last couple years we've had a real sold team on paper but haven't been able to put it together. With our new faces and healthy roster I think we can make a run at the West.
