It seems like Sir Mix-A-Lot is one of the only West Coast rappers I can think of off hand that became major and was from outside of California. I would count Nevada, Arizona, Washington, and Oregon as "West Coast" states. Can you name any other artists that have got radio play nationwide, or that were major inside their state?
I know Hot Rod came from Phoenix, and had "Be easy" in rotation. I remember Bookie Loc from Phoenix, he had a few tracks Battlecat did. I think Cool Nutz is from Portland.

I was referring to Washington State, the one above California...I'd call D.C. East Coast or arguably the South.

I know Blue Scholars from Seattle, WA are rather big in their state and rightfully so. Check em out if you haven't yet.
