Agreed, winning 100 games, that's too crazy. I would like to see 100 games or less in the season. Then games would have more meaning. The World Series ends before Halloween, or better, the playoffs start just before NFL kickoff would do wonders for the MLB.
-
why is the baseball season so fuckin long anyways?
-
I guess since the early days when baseball was the only major sport in the US, they just got use to playing many games. I could imagine back in the day they hated baseball season ended. I'm not sure, just guessing.
-
i think that cutting the baseball schedule in half would not only make everyone happy, but also generate more money with less games...they could put the money they put into those excessive games into marketing and what not. games would also be more intense and the athletes would be trying harder with less physical demand. baseball is dying cuz of the boredom factor.

I do enjoy baseball but its definitely the most boring game in sports.it makes curling look like motocross jumps over rivers on fire

The season's length is perfect. If you were to shorten the season, you would be seeing a lot more streaky teams get in the playoffs. You'll have to have a new era of stat tracking for career and season stats which not many baseball fans will like. A long season is one of the positive attributes of baseball, the journey from Spring Training to a World Series win is epic. Baseball isn't close to dying, sure it's not the 70s/80s ratings wise but the attendance is still there. Ratings for playoff games are extremely market based. If the Red Sox would have made it the World Series...it would have gotten a shit load of more viewers than the Rays vs Phillies World Series.
Baseball is boring to the average sports fan, but if you're into it...you start seeing the excitement of pitching and hitting. It's always an interesting battle with batter types and pitcher types.

As usual Javii knows whats up, I completely agree that the season's length is perfect as it is.
NIK I cant believe you said that MLB should cut the season in half, you have to be kidding me.

i think the season length is perfect. baseball already generates the second most money in american sports, decreasing the length doesn't do anything except create rust for the players. baseball shape different than basketball or football shape. football is like running the 100m while the American gladiators try to kill you, basketball shape is like running the 800m relay, and baseball is like running the marathon. also as a fan.....you love following those 3 game series. it lets you determine matchups better. you get into the fine details of a teams bull pen, a teams depth, and strength at bat. the farther you delve into baseball the more interesting it becomes. if you just look at it from the surface, yeah it's a boring game, but there's so much to get into IMO that warrants the long season.

Baseball> Football> Basketball
or you can switch basketball in front of football

the 162 game grind is what seperates the real teams from the non contenders
for a team to go that many games and be consistent, make the playoffs and stay consistent, then play the World Series still at full strength
that's what seperates the men from the boys.... gotta respect whoever wins the Series that's for sure, it ain't an easy game and season

Part of the allure of baseball is that they play almost every day, and you can catch a game regardless of what your schedule is like. Then you factor in the amount of revenue from all the games, the pitching matchups, managerial moves, and strategy is very important to navigate the whole season. If all the divison races were decided by July or August, then a change would need to be made. But every year, there's at least 2 divison and/or wild card races that come down to the last couple days of the season.

I don't think enough teams make the playoffs.and a salary cap should be in place

Baseball broke its own attendance records last season. Also last season baseball made more money than football and basketball in America. Well baseball always has made more than basketball. Please stick to basketball, at least when you aren't sucking the Lakers off you can come off as someone that knows a thing a or two when it comes to basketball.

the season is perfect length...its a fucking battle that begins on opening day, and ends on that 162nd day of battle.
i admit, sometimes it gets a lil boring, but then the next day you get an amazing pitching duel that reminds you why you watch this game. or you get a guy who steals 5 bases, or you get a guy who is trying to hit for the cycle...if youre lucky, you see a guy going for a no hitter, or even a perfect game.
there are so many things to enjoy in baseball.
baseball is the only sport i know of where a lot of fans CANT WAIT for spring training (pre season games). motherfuckers are anxious just to see their favorite players practice!!
oh..and ROFLMAO @ "baseball is dying"..!!!! lmao seriously?!?! LMAO
