Hey Playa hands down! 8)
that song in CDQ is fuckin unreal; classic shit! 8)
-
wicked! 8)
i wanted to vote for hey playa because of the insane production and big sounding funk but fuck y'all just has that classic west coast vibe but bigger and brighter than ever before. both good tracks to compare to dre's production on 'grow up' i think, similar sounding drums and effects.
-
hey playa duz it
-
Hey Playa is cool but imma have to go with "Fuck Yall", that song is crazy!!!

Fuck Y'all does have a more west coast vibe, but i still have to go with Hey Playa. :P
Fuck Y'all is still fucking amazing though. 8)
i want that album so bad!

hey playa sets a new standard for sampling in this era, quik is genius. also the low end and bassline effects on both records are very heavy 8) hey playa has a really really low but still funky bassline and fuck y'all has this thick bassline layered under the guitar and some big bzzzzzzzzzz style effects in classic quik style.
-
and sorry for doing a big dickriding thread on quik but it had to be done. out of all the new music i bumped for a very long time its standing out as the best sounding shit. with 8) it comes onto another level. hey playa is like going on a safari and fuck y'all is just pure westcoast but super crispy.
funny how all these producers are going off and doing some different sounds while quik gets all the latest toys, does his stuff in the background then shows he can do these new effects but make it sound even better with his sound.

that song gets me pissed off about the hip hop industry. Its just as catchy as the songs that get radio play (without being a crappy song) but you know it won't get any attention because its "west coast" and not by the game. No matter how dope a song is if its not from an artist on a major label it won't get touched.

Just some favorites, not neccessarily the best tracks of '09
Ya Boy - We Run LA (Ft. Dr. Hollywood)
Tha Dogg Pound - On And On (Ft. The Notorious B.I.G.)
Terrace Martin - Ridin Out (Ft. J. Black & Bad Lucc)
Locksmith - Toss Up
Knoc-Turn'Al - Lil Bit (Ft. Knawledge)
Keelay & Zaire - The Times (Ft. Blu, Fortilive & Nino Moschella)
-
^^^^^^^^^ Was We Run LA not last year? Even so i love the track,
That would be my pick along with Hey Playa and Ya Boy - Oh My
-
Fuck Y'All - only because it's more "West Coast" than Hey Playa. Both are equally great tunes.
-
Kurupt_Soopafly_SnoopDogg_Build-U-Up_Tear-U-Down
Terrace-Martin_Shes_A_Hoodrat ft Bad Lucc
-
Blaqkout is going to be OUT OF CONTROL!!!!!
dont you worry about that.
HURRY UP AND PUT A VIDEO OUT FOR HEY PLAYA.
With summer coming up in the states this song will blow up, at least in Cali.

You're right, '08 was the year.
But I didn't hear the final version until this year.
Gonna listen again to that other YB track, I think I didn't like it back then.

I really do hope that the question is more production wise because both tracks subject wise are weak, especially Hey Playa and especially Kurupt. Not to mention that Hey Playa is unlistenable due to poor mixing/ noisy beat.
Off the top of my head, Crooked I - Can You Hear Me Now (subject wise) and Ea Ski & Locksmith - IMGI Introduction (subject and beat wise).
-
don't you mean, "if you ever hear me"?
-
hey playa 8)
-
DJ Quik & Kurupt - BlaQKout (Intro)
The Jacka Ft. Cellski - Wont Be Right
-
California Dreamin- Superstar Quamallah
