Great live act in the 70s and early 80s too. He's a solid song writer and solid performer. I think what kept him out of the Rock elite categories was that he came out in an album artist era and he never really had one of those "you need to have this" albums. Live Bullet comes the closest but it was just a collection of live stuff.

The full stanza is

I get the impression that the girl in question really fucked him over and left him permanently scarred. Some shit was going down with her while they were together. It's like looking at a picture of you and your girl together in love but you find out later that during that time she was fucking around on you and every time you see that pic or think of her that's all you can think of, but looking at your own face you remember how happy you were because you didn't know then what you know now.

That's what is says to me. It could be as simple as he didn't know then that it would never end but it did end, but it speaks a lot deeper to me. That's why I like it.
