(for those not checking the outbound forum)
here's a quick rundown of random things i remember (i only heard the album once all the way through):
-20 songs, 5 skits, 4 songs that already leaked...that makes 11 new songs...
-my personal favorite (beat wise) and probably the best song on the album is "My Mom". its about him being just like his mother and doing drugs all the time... sounds like he's done a song about his mother a million times before... but the beat is actually whats so crazy about it. It's too hard to not like this song. I'm thinking of a song that can be compared to this
-he randomly does the accent thing but then switches back to spitting like back in the days. noticed that on lots of songs (My Mom too)
-Other favs are "Insane" and "Same Song & Dance" co-produced by Dawaun Parker... I think "Same Song & Dance" will satisfy most people
-Dre produced every song on the album (except "Beautiful" which was produced by Eminem), but only 7 of them all by himself. Most of the times its Mark Batson or Dawaun Parker co-producing
-Like I said, "Beautiful" is produced by Eminem and its one of them slow joints he does on every album. I guess you could compare it to something like "Mockingbird" or "Hailie's Song" since he does a lot of singing. Actually liked that one...
-the Paul Rosenberg and Steve Berman skits are usual skits he does on his albums. (Rosenberg not backing the new project anymore due to the hard content) and he's also doing the Ken Kaniff trying to remake the We Made You hook (in a shitty way).
-"Underground" is pretty hard too, beat and content wise. talks about getting raped by his stepfather
the album is far from mindblowing (hard to tell anyway on the first listen) but it has 4-5 strong songs which is cool with me since i'm not one to bump an eminem album for months. there's a lot of average songs which i wanted to skip after 2 minutes, mainly due to the vocals. but the production is flawless all the way through, as you would expect from such a production team....
doubt they're gonna be able to keep this one safe for much longer. guess its gonna leak today or tomorrow...

Interesting. Thanks for posting up this info and your thoughts on it. I'm looking forward to hearing it, so I can see what I think of it. But it's always interesting to hear someone else's take.

Props for the information. Would you say that it's better than Encore?

Good question. I meant to ask that too. To me, if it's at least better than "Encore," I think I'll probably enjoy it.

Probably on the same level... I cant say its waaay better than Encore, so it probably ain't for that reason alone...

Alright. Appreciate the honest opinion. I'm still interested in hearing for myself, but your review seemed pretty fair.

Other than "Beautiful" was there ONE song with NO accent?

Nice little review... but I'm not excited for this album (and I don't understand why anyone would be). Em doesn't have to put in much effort to top Encore. That shit was trash from start to scratch.
I'll listen to this two or three times, keep the good songs (besides Crack A Bottle cause I actually liked that joint) and delete the rest. Your name doesn't have to be Einstein to know Eminem lost it after The Marshall Mathers LP.

Okay, "My Mom" kinda reminds me of "Kissin the Curb" by Bishop & Busta, I guess there's some similarities there. Well, except for the drums of course 8)

shitty from begining to end? that would be putti a lil too much on it don't you think?

Yeah. I think that might be putting it a little strong too. I think it was weak, overall. But there were a few tracks on there that I enjoyed. "Spend Some Time," "Never Enough," and that one he did with 50 and Dre (can't think of the name of hand), for example.

Yes. This album isn't that great. I will rate it 5/10.

I was bumpn "My Moms" when I opened this thread.. funny..
this track bangs.. so do several others on the album..
you guys and your unrealistic expectations will leave you dissapointed for the rest of your lives..
(did I read someone talking shit about BlaQKout based on 3 tracks.. forreal??)
simply put.. this album is Eminem.. if you like his flow and his style of music.. you will LOVE this album.
if you can't stand his accent or some of his beat selections.. then you will HATE on this album..
I don't bang any Em albums.. I only listen to his flow and admire the new Dre instrumentation..
the promotions behind this project are on-point and I feel the consistency with the 'Relapse' story..
as far as the album.. obviously only true Em fans will appreciate this one.. and IMO this kills 'Encore' which dragged to me.

I agree with you on the "Encore" part. I think the production is definately better this time around. And it seems like at least Em is more into it, on this one. To me
"Encore" felt like something Interscope forced Em to do because they wanted to put out another Eminem album. It just didn't seem like his heart was into it. On this album though, it really did seem like Eminem and Dre were trying very hard to put out a great album. I think it falls short of that, but I would also say that it's a step in the rignt direction. Personally, I don't think that it quite measures up to "The Eminem Show." But that's just my opinion. I'll say this though. That track "Underground" is probably the dopest, most lyrical song I've heard Eminem put out in years. I'm still on the fence with all the accents he uses. I think some of the songs with them are starting to grow on me. I did find it strange though that all but 4 of the songs on the album featured them. I appreciate his efforts to try something new. I'm just not sure it was 100 percent successful here.

Aight, here's my little "review":
I listened through the album, and it's pretty much what I expected it to be based on the singles.
Production bangs, without a doubt. But with Dr. Dre and the team lacing all the beats except one, that's hardly a surprise.
Eminem comes off good - not mindblowing stuff, but it's the type of Slim Shady stuff you're allowed to expect from the man by now. The flows are on point and there's a consistent theme of insanity/drug addiction/trauma going on throughout - unlike on Encore, where the tracks weren't connected by any theme. And while Encore had a lot of bad stuff and a few gems, Relapse has just good stuff and a few gems. The lyrics aren't that hard hitting on all tracks and sometimes dude goes off tangent, but those lapses aren't that serious that they'd ruin anything. Em uses some accents here and there, but at least to me they weren't annoying this time around.
Em delivers a solid dose of Slim Shady on Relapse - the drug addicted psycho that he is. There isn't anything radically new in the whole concept - but what's done is done well. But frankly, this is Eminem's 5th album - I'm not expecting him to surprise me anymore. I leave that to the new cats. 'Cause let's face it - if the old favourites stopped doing what we expect them to do, we'd feel they're selling out. Redman has alwyays been Redman, Biggie was always Biggie, Ice Cube is always Ice Cube - and Em is always Em.
So all in all - a solid package of dope beats, never-tiring flows and a solid theme throughout. The lyrics aren't always quite up to par and thematically there's nothing really new here, but overall Relapse was a good experience. Just like I expected - not bad, not excellent, but good. It'll get the occasional spin once added to my collection, but won't get the special treatment the classics do. If I were to give it a number... let's say a 7 /10. Maybe even an 8 when the mood/company/weather is just right.
Oh, and to add one more thing - there's only one track that sticks out in a negative way: the first single "We Made You". And it sticks out for exactly what it is - the last minute, pop-track addition that they thought they needed to have on the album.

other than the production this album ain't nothing to talk about its one of those albums you'll forget after a couple listens
-
Insane is an Insane track.
Dre, even though he had co-production, made an AMAZING beat here HOLY FUCK.
