Despite being cleared of assaulting a fan at a 2005 concert, the man who sued rapper Snoop Dogg will still receive compensation for injuries suffered from the incident.
Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle Records, rapper Soopafly and other unnamed parties will pay Richard Monroe Jr. nearly $449,000 in damages, a jury found on Friday (May 8) after determining that Monroe suffered major injuries from the assault.
Soopafly (born Priest Brooks) was among those involved in the incident.
"We're very pleased that the jury found that this incident was not something to be taken lightly," Monroe's attorney, Brian E. Watkins, said. Friday’s decision marks the end of two weeks of testimony surrounding Monroe’s 2006 lawsuit against Snoop Dogg (born Calvin Broadus).
Although Monroe’s attorneys claimed the rapper hit their client with a microphone during the ordeal, a video shown during the trial disputed the argument.
The clip, which showed Snoop Dogg performing his hit song “Gin and Juice,” did not show rapper hitting Monroe.
Monroe is tackled by security in the video after putting his arm around Snoop Dogg.
Monroe revealed during the trial that he thought he had been invited onstage during the show, which took place at the White River Amphitheater near Seattle.
According to reports, Monroe later woke up after the assault, dazed, in a pool of blood and with his pants ripped off.
He told investigators that the men who beat him also poured their drinks, which appeared to be a mix of gin and juice, on him during the beating. Jurors were shown pictures of Monroe’s swollen face following the concert.
Snoop Doggs' attorneys countered Monroe's version of the incident by arguing that his recollection of events changed over time and.
In addition, the lawyers told jurors that Monroe did not immediately reveal to investigators after the ordeal that Snoop Dogg hit him with his microphone.
That rap star testified earlier in the civil trial that he did not assault Monroe as he described and identified performers and security personnel who were seen struggling with Monroe on the video.
Snoop Dogg further stated that he quickly left the stage to go to his tour bus before the incident was over.
Snoop Dogg was not in court on Friday when the verdict was handed down.
The jury’s decision to award the nearly $449,000 payment to Monroe fell short of the $ 22 million he had sought from the entertainer.

i wonder if snoop will pay the money. the guys just got his back

im curious to see what soopafly dpgc213 has to say about this.

Tell me they didn't expect to get that 22 million from Soopafly, LOL
-
i wonder if snoop will pay the money. the guys just got his back
That would be the right thing to do.....
-
lmao! 22 mil down to less than half a mil...what did this guy hire a public defender?
I'm sure snoop will pay for it and not soopafly

"Responsibility for paying the judgment falls on Doggystyle Records, which Broadus founded; rapper Soopafly, whose real name is Priest Brooks; and other unnamed parties."
I wonder if Daz was at this concert?? I hope Snoop covers this or appeals it..

I hope all those fuckers suffer. Dude was just tryna show some love to his favorite rapper and got beat down like that. I mean I would understand if 1 of Snoop's homies knocked his ass out and had him carried out the venue, but c'mon, did all those muthafuckas really have to jump in for 1 man?

yeah thats true...dude was a fan, now he probably hates snoop.
I understand that snoop gotta worry about people jumping on stage and attacking him, but his body guards need a better sense of judgment.

me too...
i think
1.he already robbed a bank and send money to soopafly..
2.he shot himself

I doubt Snoop or Soopafly would invite a guy on stage to beat his ass.. doesn't make any sense. I'm gonna roll with he wasn't invited on stage.
-
I doubt he was 'invited' on stage.
-
Damn, that's alot of money to pay for hittin and kickin somebody a few times.
-
Its so weird how snoop always is in the middle of cases but never goes to jail....*rolls eyes
-
Next time I'm at a rap concert I'ma try to jump on stage -
Worst case scenario I end up on stage and it's cool
Best case scenario I get a beat-down and then I get to claim my $449,000!
-
Just make sure you have one of your boys taping that shit
-
Just make sure you have one of your boys taping that shit
That and make sure ya don't get brain damage lol. Kinda hard to spend ya money when ya eating through a feeding tube and you a Ghetto Vet like Cube was talking about.

I'll have one of my boys tape it and another one of my boys disguise himself as me jumping on stage, so that I don't even have to go to the concert - problem solved

Yeah, we all have seen what happened with Tray Deee and others. Suge Knight fucked Dre, Snoop Dogg and others out of their money and now years later, Snoop Dogg is doin' the same goddamn thing. How many people left Dogg House or Doggystyle cuz of money issues?

perhaps soopafly dpg213 was actually the victim of the beat down, that would explain why he hasn't been on here that much. I can see him thinking soopa was calling him up on stage and grabbing at his ankles and stuff, then soopa "crushed him".

U SURE HOPE SNOOP WOULD PAY THE BILL HAHA
DPGC23
-
Why would he be invited on stage? Rappers don't bring dudes on stage, they bring girls, LOL!
This guy may have meant no harm, but probably shouldn't be up there.
If ANYTHING it was a misunderstanding, but who knows what really went down.
-
Its so weird how snoop always is in the middle of cases but never goes to jail....*rolls eyes
People are rarely sent to jail because of civil trials.
-
haha especially snoopafly
he wouldnt last on the pc yard let alone if he were to ever be put out on the frontline or GP

You ever see this kind of shit happen in wrestling? Every now and again, a fan will hop the railing and get fucked up.
-
400K, that's one load of money for Soopafly to pay, even if he had to pay only 10th of it. He better start selling those mixtapes or do baby sitting or whatever he does by profession.
And Snoopafly DPGC participates in aiding his favorite rapper by selling his 2nd kidney and his left testicle. I think you guys can get the money eventually with a little sacrifices.
-
I doubt Soopafly has 400k.. Doggystyle will have to pay it or Soopafly will need to file bankruptcy.

I don't know man, i think too much is being made out of this. All it said was the lawsuit was again Doggystyle Records as a whole and the men implicated in the beatings were several people, with one being identified as The Man Soopafly. I'm sure Doggystyle Records will just pay the man and be done with it. Nothing will come from Fly's pockets. It's not going to put the man in bankruptcy (which he already filed once in 2000). They could easily sue the concert venue or promoter for making it easy for the fan to jump onstage and not providing ample security and stuff like that. The article said Snoop, Soopafly and others didn't even bother showing up for the trial, so i doubt they even care at this point, probably not even worth the trouble. Nice to see Fly can kick some ass though when needed. At this stage of the game, he doesn't even need to get his hands dirty with this nonsense if he doesn't want to, but he cold cocked him because the dude was getting in his face. I'm sure Snoop ran and hid. I thought it was funny how the guy said when he woke up, he was beaten and laying in pile of blood with his pants missing. Thousand bucks says Kurupt stole the dude's pants looking for money for crack. Soopafly kicked the dude's ass, left him for dead, then Kurupt peaked his head around the corner like a timid little kitten, once he saw the dude was knocked out, he ran in and took his pants. Now you all know exactly what Soopalfy would have done to Kurupt back when he was talking all that shit, kurupt would have been left beaten in a pool of his blood. Seriously though, if Fly needed the money to pay the fine, all he'd have to do is hit up about 5 of his hoes and tell them to do double time for the next 5 or 6 night and he'd have the mony no problem. I just hope this doesn't delay the release of his new EP.

Exactly, that's just what I was saying. If the venue was in charge of security, I would think they'd have a case against the venue. All they have to say is they feared for their safety or some BS like that.
