Title: WIDEAwake's Plans For The Chronic
Post by: EFFeX on May 14, 2009, 08:41:02 AM
http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.9131/title.death-row-to-re-release-the-chronic-with-help-from-fans

Quote
Artists such as Snoop Dogg [click to read], DJ Quik [click to read] and Bishop Lamont [click to read] have all commented on the vast amount of unreleased material Dr. Dre keeps in the Aftermath vaults. And it would seem that “The Doctor” began this habit back in his Death Row days, as his former label is making previously unreleased material from The Chronic available. In a recent conversation with HipHopDX, Death Row/WIDEawake Entertainment Senior Vice President John Payne explained how the label plans to reintroduce a classic album to a new generation.

“We’re re-releasing ‘The Chronic,’ and it’s going to be called, ‘The Chronic Relit’,” Payne said. “It will be remastered with a couple more songs that were done at that same time as well as a lot of footage and artwork. We’re remastering it so that it works with today’s technology, but we’re not changing the mixes or doing anything like that.”

Payne said the label has every intention of keeping the vast amount of Death Row recordings both “original and fresh” at the same time. And, in a bit of surprising news, he added that fans will have an opportunity to be more involved in this release than any previous one.

“There are a couple Dre tracks that had no third verse, and we’re going to be seeking people to complete them,” Payne added. “We won’t go to the entertainment realm. We just want average, everyday people.”

As the finishing touches are being put on the project, Payne explained that release dates and more information on how artists can submit verses will be announced. HipHopDX will provide more details and information as they are available.

Are you kidding me? Ruin songs we've been waiting on for years with regular fans just spitting on it!?

EDIT:

This line was later added for clarification...

"Tracks with added verses from fans will not be included on the reissue of The Chronic."

Sorry about the confusion!

That line was NOT in the article I copy and pasted. That was clearly added later on.

Wideawake will become the next Amaru...

"If we bitch they will hear..."

I know, LOL!

On the real though, I felt compelled to spread this news quickly, because I couldn't imagine having material we've waited on forever ruined like that.

I have a feeling that HipHopDX forgot to mention that in their original posting and possibly seen how there was a negative response so clarified ASAP, LOL.

WRONG I asked if he let it out to be a douche bag and since he didn't then it doesn't apply

It's alright, I'm not sweating it.

I just know that it wasn't there, I copied the whole article from beginning to end and the fact that the line is before the end of my selection means that it was added later on.

Just a misunderstanding.

I agree that this would have been terrible if some random fan-mixes were actually added to the album.  But now that they've clarified that the versions with the fans added won't be on the album, I don't think it's that bad of a promotional tool.  I mean, if it's something they just post up on their website or something like that, that could even be kind of cool.  But yeah, I'm in complete agreement that something like that shouldn't be added to the actual cd.

yeah, just leave it at the 2 Dre verses and fans won't care

Since there is so few unreleased Dre tracks to begin with, fans surely won't mind them just looping up the hook a few times and letting the beat ride out.

Unreleased Dre is unreleased Dre. Unless they are adding an artist that was signed to Tha Row during that period, just let it be. Even that would be unacceptable in my eyes as we want the songs in their purest form.

It's just a contest so no big deal. And think about it, if they want people to enter the contest they are gonna have to make the 2 verse version with an instrumental out for the 3rd verse available for free to download to everybody so this could mean we would be seeing song we wouldn't have seen otherwise.
