I don't know about that.  The Jays were 9-9 vs. the Red Sox last year (the Yankees as well) and it's not like they vastly improved their team and I think the 2009 Jays are better than last year's squad.  If they end up 9-9 again I'm happy with that.

I'm not sure if I agree with the teams decision to send Romero and janssen to the minors.Your not supposed to lose your job because of injury.Especially when janssen is your number two in rotation and Romero looking incredible this year.Put tallet back in the pen and give that spot to janssen at least.

From everything I've heard Marcum's might be back in August and it's unlikely you'll see McGowan this year.
I'm hoping Romero is just doing a rehab start or two, but he should get his spot back in the rotation by the end of the month.
Janssen hasn't pitched in 2009 or 2008 and he was the set-up man in 2007.  I don't think he's owed a spot in the rotation like Romero.

They should bring up Accardo, I don't know why he's still in Las Vegas.  So bring up Accardo and Romero and send down Wolfe and Camp.  That should be done for sure.  But big decisions are going to have to be made because they have to make room for Janssen and Litsch soon too.

Halladay should be the only starter with a locked spot and somehow pick the best 4 of Litsch, Romero, Janssen, Ray, Cecill, Richmond and Tallet.  And Purcey I guess if he can solve his control issues.  A good problem to have.  They really might have to trade a few young arms while their stock is somewhat high and try to get a long-term solution at SS or 3B.

I think they should go with

Halladay
Litsch
Richmond
Romero
Cecil

and like you said send down Wolfe and Camp.

And if you have that rotation, Tallet and Janssen with be in the pen making it look like:

LHP-Tallet
LHP-Carlson
LHP-Ryan
RHP-Janssen
RHP-League
RHP-Accardo
RHP-Frasor
CLR-Downs

Nasty bullpen.  Just hope there aren't any more injuries.

Fantastic!  After a little downer of a series against the Yanks they forget about it and came back with a 4 game sweep.  This is what they have to do, just beat up on these shitty teams.

Carlson has been had a rough couple of outings, not like him.

Time for Boston!  I wish Cito had some balls and put Halladay out there Thursday against them.  He is a work horse and can handle short rest.

One of the worst games I've ever seen, I want those two and a half hours back.  There must have been 15 soft, dinky pop up by the Jays.  Ugly, ugly game.
And goddam Vernon Wells, 0 for 4 and I bet he didn't see more than 10 pitches and popped up 4 times.   :-X
Title: Re: The Official Toronto Blue Jays Thread
Post by: Jaydc555 on May 19, 2009, 06:31:44 PM
Kind of a boring game.pop up after pop up,blue jays were too aggressive against wakefield. They needed to take more pitches instead of swinging at the first pitch every at bat.I know that's their style at the plate this year and its brough them success but you can't do that against a guy like wakefiel.Still on the brightside tallet had another solid start.Looking forward to tommorows game

Title: Re: The Official Toronto Blue Jays Thread

Pitching and fielding will not be the problem for this team.  The hitting is the season long problem, Rios, Wells and Snider have to get going and they can't really go anywhere.  The only move I really see that can make to improve the offense is get a real first baseman.  I don't know who will take Overbay and what they could get for him.  The future first baseman for the Jays in the minors, Cooper, isn't ready yet.  I think we're stuck with this line-up, hopefully they can just get it going.

I don't know what they are waiting for with some of these guys in the minors.  Send down Camp, Wolfe and Ray and bring up Janssen, Accardo and Romero.  I don't what to do with Cecil, he's got great stuff and will be a permanent fixture in the rotation in the future, just not sure about now.

Title: Re: The Official Toronto Blue Jays Thread
Post by: Jaydc555 on May 21, 2009, 07:09:45 PM
I totally don't understand their decision to keep this band aid pitching staff.Tallet is not a starter and Cecil and ray are not quite ready yet.Wells and overbay are having terrible seasons. If they get going this offence will be amazing especially considering they have the number one ranked offence right now. They just wasted so many runners this series

Snider is going to Las Vegas, no word yet on who is coming up.
It's as good of time as any I guess.  They are in Atlanta now with no DH so he wouldn't play anyways, might as well get some at-bats in AAA.

Word is Inglett is the one coming up.  I like it, he did a good job last year and is a solid utility player.  He batted .297/.355/.407 in 344 ABs last year for the Jays.

That's actually false.  They have had poor Aprils in the past few years.  I can't find where to look that up right now but I'm pretty sure it's true.

I dunno about that.....if we drop to the level of the Nationals, that seems much lower.

Yes, in the grand scheme of things, the Nationals are lower.  But I'm saying, blowing a big lead with your ace on the mound, getting it back and blowing it again in extra innings to lose their 9th straight.  I can't see there being a lower point in the season for the Jays that this (knock on wood).

Here are the March/April records for the Jays the 6 years before this one.  3 of them they've had TERRIBLE starts and the other 3 years were only 1 game over .500 ball, decent starts, not good.  So there pretty much goes that theory.

2008: 11-17 .393
2007: 13-12 .520
2006: 12-11 .522
2005: 13-12 .520
2004:  7-15 .416
2003: 10-18 .357

boston won...now ur 2 games back.

And will likely be 5 after this weekend.

They are facing Wakefield again tonight.  The last time they played it was one ugly, ugly game.  Hopefully getting back home turns things around.

Enough of Camp and Wolfe already, there are better arms in Vegas that can come up and take their place.
And what is up with Litsch?  Still not back?  It's been a month and a half, seems like a little much for a forearm strain.

i dont know what your farm system looks like in vegas...but if yall got pitchers down there who are pitching well...they might do well in the bigs.  that park in vegas is a notorious hitters park.  and if yall got hitters putting up good numbers there, take it with a grain of salt.

Good to know that fact about the park in Vegas.  Couldn't find any info about that on the net.

Well it's 1-0 right now and that might be good enough tonight.  Doc looks like he has his A+ stuff tonight, his 2-seamer and curveball are looking nasty right now.  He's only let up one hit (a cheap one too) has 5 Ks and has faced the minimum through 4.

These injuries to the pitchers are just getting ridiculous now, Halladay, Jassen and Downs are all on the DL now.
I'm not even sure who is called up, I know Mills for sure and I think Accardo and Cecil will be the other two.

And I can't stand Gaston whining about Downs' injuries, "my pitchers don't take BP or run, they shouldn't have to hit", sounds like an idiot.

Don't get this team, get swept at home by the Fish and then go on the road to Philly and sweep them.  ???

This team is so inconsistent.

Coming to the end of June they are still in a playoff spot (tied).  Not bad considering how bad (understatement) their starting pitching has been plagued by injuries.   :-\

and Halladay says he's ready to start Monday.

Red Sox righty Josh Beckett pitched seven shutout innings in Atlanta. Jays lefty Ricky Romero flirted with a no-hitter vs. the Phillies. And Yankees ace CC Sabathia was too much for the Mets.

Hah thats off mlb.com. Who the fuck thought they would be namin Romero at the start of this season with Beckett and Sabathia.

And now Barajas is going the gang on the DL.   >:(

Quote
The team purchased Kyle Phillips' contract from Triple-A Las Vegas to replace Barajas on the active roster. Raul Chavez should handle the bulk of the Jays' catching duties.

What happened to wells? He's become a mediocre player.Of all the great players the blue jays let go over the years the one they keep is a bust.

He used to be the most exciting player on the team.He would charge and just blow through batters. Now as soon as they put him he gives up 3 runs

Were trading halladay?

We're not shopping him around, but we weren't listening to any offers for him before.
Now, Ricciardi said he is willing to listen.

Jays wasted an awesome performance yesterday from Halladay and fucked up even worse today. Their season is falling harder than Marbury's career  :(

the Jays didn't blow the lead today thankfully.
as for Halladay, the Jays rejected the latest offer for him by the Phillies.

If they are going to get rid of Halladay and give up for 2010 too they REALLY should try to get rid of Rolen, just because he's at the highest value that he will probably get.  There has to be some team that can use an excellent fielding 3rd baseman that hits .300

apparently Ricciardi is saying that Halladay likely won't be moved...I'm guessing he's bluffing.

other names in trade rumours: Rolen, Overbay, and Scutaro.

looks like the Phillies are turning their attention towards Cliff Lee instead, which could indicate Halladay stays a Jay for the rest of the season.

Ricciardi needs to make a deal soon for Halladay...he's going to test the market and will end up signing with a contender; Ricciardi can get at least 2 or 3 good prospects IMO for him.

I think jp is a terrible GM and I always have.He doesn't have a plan for the team at all he just randomly signs over priced veterans each year.He just ends up with a big cap and no results

they should ship halladay with wells and his rediculous contract, would def help toronto's cap for the next couple of years

Its kind of sad that of all the great players Toronto has lost over the years the one they decide to keep with wells turns into a bust

Rolen got shipped to the Reds.

Halladay stays; talks will resume in the off-season but I doubt we'll get as good an offer as we did before the deadline.

I drove down from Vancouver on wednesday to watch Doc pitch against the Mariners....  tough loss, but that was a wicked day.. I heard it was the hottest day in Seattle history? the players must have been dying, I was burned out just sitting in the crowd watching
