BALTIMORE -- Rachel Alexandra became the first filly to win the Preakness since 1924, holding off a late charge by Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird to capture the middle jewel of the Triple Crown.
The only filly in the race, Rachel Alexandra went off as the 9-5 favorite. She moved to the front from the No. 13 post and took a big lead before Mine That Bird tested the filly in the stretch.
Musket Man finished third.
Rachel Alexandra, with jockey Calvin Borel on board, won in 1:55.08.
She paid $5.60, $4.60 and $3.60.

She didn't destroy Mine That Bird. Fantastic race by Mine That Bird, people were claiming that horse is a fluke. If Mike Smith would have been able to go along with Flying Private, Mine That Bird would have won.

i got to say i was pulling for mine that bird.

Mine that Bird has nothing on Alexandra. That was not her best race since it looked like every other horse was trying to cut her off. There was a reason she was favored. I even had action on her to beat Mine that Bird on a side bet (-270).
Calvin Borel knows whats up, hes going for the triple crown lol

i knew the Filly was going to take that shit.
they hyped her up to the point where she couldn't lose.
i hate it when their is no chance of a Triple Crown, headed to Belmont. :-\

that would be a nice personal acheivement for him, but when the horse is headed to Belmont with two wins thats awesome.
i wanted Smarty Jones to take that shit so badly. ;D

Rachel Alexandra definitely can't handle the Belmont Stakes. Like I said, if Mine That Bird would have had a smoother ride, Mine That Bird would have won.
