might wanna spoiler tag that somehow, its a great moment for people that dont know about it.
T2 >> TS >>> T1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> T3 (piece of shit)
this movie isn't like T2 in that it has appeal in the sense of drama/emotional depth, but its fun as fuck. Siskel used to say a good movie has 3 good scenes and no bad ones. Well, this has atleast 5 great ones and my complaints are minimal. Go see this shit!

Haven't seen TS, but T1>>>>>>>>>>>T2 any day of the week for me. And every year tat goes by I add another > because T2 starts to look more dated. What I mean is that at first T2 looked so much better than T1 in terms of production that it was erasy to think of T1 as inferior, but as time passes and they both start looking dated, T1 still has it's coolness factor, amazing concept, and great themes. T2 just reuses the same concept and theme and in a less effective way.

Disagree strongly.
Especially since it added so much more. "No fate" really comes into its own in that movie with them taking destiny into their own hands. And the whole terminator as a father figure, and questions of man vs machine dont even exist in the original. In T1 the terminator's just a plot device, nothing more.
Add to that the fact that T2 isn't dated at all. The CGI T-1000 still looks great today and everything else was practical effects. Easily the best action of any movie and the end's emotional note doesn't seem forced or corny.. unlike the hokey love story between reese and sarah in T1. Plus the stop motion is ridiculous in 2009.
T2 did everything T1 did better, and then did a bunch of other shit too. That's why its classic.

the terminator theme song isnt in it? wtf :( watching the trailer with the theme song had me pumped up about this movie
why couldnt they just add that to it? did it hurt them in any way or form. fuck

the dun dun dun dun dun is in it but the actual doo doo doooooooooo isnt

They never take destiny into their own hands. The whole point of the series is that no matter how much you try and avoid Judgment Day it's still coming and no matter how you already know about the future your destiny is set out for you. The only thing T2 did for me was ask stupid questions like if they had T100 the whole time why just not send him back to the first movie setting the first time and kill Sarah then?
Remember in the first one it was explained that the Machines had been defeated and the last ditch effort before beiong completely taken over was to send a terminater back to the past and kill John Connor before he had a chance to lead the rebellion. So John sent back Reese to stop them, and in turn start everything because John knows that whole time that Resse is his father and needs to send him back in order to be born. It's the whole space time continuum thing.
T2 just turned the whole thing into a pop corn flick. T1 was a cult classic. Sure the love story was paint by numbers, but don't think the surrogate father thing wasn't too. Got kind of sappy at the end too. It's not a complete joke of a film or anything, but if both were made under at the same time T1 would be a clear winner. T1 was made with Cameron's muse in mind. T2 was made with Cameron's wallet in mind.

Haven't seen it yet, but went to watch Star Trek today and ran into two friends walking out that just watched Salvation and they both really liked it, and they're the type who I trust with film opinions, so I'm gonna check it out tomorrow.
As for more heart; I agree it does have more heart. I just don't think the heart it does have that T1 doesn't is crafted well enough to make it a better film than T1. It's hard to understand the greatness of T1 if you grew up with T2. I just watched Star Trek so I'll use that as an example; for a kid growing up in the late 80s/early 90s that fell in love with Next Generation and never saw Star Trek the original until after already becoming a Trek fan the old show will always be a little off for that kid. But a for a kid in the 60s, Next Gen will never be as great as the original.
I saw T1 and T2 both for the first time on the same day back in the early 90s as a kid, and for me T2 was just the same story with a few different twists when I first saw it, and it's the same thing to me now.

The only reason why t1 is the best is because arnold was actually THE TERMINATOR...to terminate bitches like Sarah Connor. That was what made the series live on..not because of being the protector.

Ok, just saw it. Actually a lot better than I thought it would be. Not as good as 2, but way better than T3.
I quoted you because now I'm actually stunned by your opinion. I get why a lot of people born after T1 came out prefer T2, but to say that Salvation is better than T1 really makes me think that you don't understand why T1 was so great to begin with. Think of T1 as the Sgt. Peppers of Sci-Fi action thrillers. Maybe the people that love it love it too much and maybe it is overrated, and if you want to say The White Album is better than Sgt. Peppers that's one thing, but you're calling McCartney's Ram album better than Sgt. Peppers and that's just absurd.

You only saw it once a few days ago and already you're making a claim that you enjoy it more. To each their own. You must really not like T1 that much. Just a question, what did you think of Blade Runner (the real version that came out as the director's cut)?
-
I've only seen it once a couple years ago - it was the version with the narration (which IIRC is the shitty one?) and I didn't like it.

The one with out the naration is the good one. But if you only saw it once and didn't like it I'm starting to see where you're coming from. You don't seem to have developed a taste for the pre-Reagan films. The post-Regan Sci-Action films were flushing money down the toilet trying to look better than eachother, and using very basic plot by numbers to sell the stories. Originality was gone. The coolness was replaced with conformity. T2 was the best of it's type, maybe, but it's type wasn't that great. I just never bought into the whole heart of the characters. If want that, which I do much of the time, I'll watch real movies like Driving Miss Daisy.
It's like being a fan of White Snake or Motley Crue and thinking Iron Maiden isn't all that special. You just don't get metal. Even in the bad version Blade Runner is one of the greatest sci-fi films ever released.

I haven't seen the flick but I read one of the reasons the movie sucks is b/c of Christian Bale. The original script only gave John Connor about 3 minutes of screen time and was going to focus more on that marcus guy and kyle. McG wanted Bale to play Marcus but I guess being familiar with the franchise insisted on playing John Connor and he wasn't happy with the 3 minutes of screen time. So they re-wrote the movie to include John Connor more while trying to stay true to the original script and it basically became a clusterfuck.
-
I thought it was a good lots of action.
And has any one seen T2 ultimate edition (or something like that) It comes with
3 versions of it and for one of them. you need a code to watch it has any seen it?

I don't think I would have preferred the original script. I would have preferred it to have started right after Judgement day occurred and then show how John Connor joined the resistance and moved the up the ranks. The ending, which may not have been until the 3rd film of this series would have to answer the major question that T2 and then some brought into play; if Skynet had the ability to send T1000 to 91 why didn't they just send a few T1000s to 84 and killed Sarah and Kyle for good? And if John had the ability to send a T800 after the T1000 why didn't he send a T800s with Kyle?
The only answer for this that I could think of is that Skynet never sent the Terminators back in the first place. John stopped Skynet before they sent back the Terminators and Skynet was destroyed and the humans won. But John how realizes that it was he who sent back the terminators to kill himself and Kyle and the Terminator to keep himself alive. He realizes that with out his experiences he never would have been able to beat Skynet and he needs to face what he faced to become who he became.
-
It was a pretty meh movie. So far, Star Trek still has the crown for the best movie of the year.

Yeah, but that original script was fucking RETARDED.
http://chud.com/articles/articles/19577/1/EXCLUSIVE-WHAT-WENT-WRONG-WITH-TERMINATOR-SALVATION/Page1.html
if anyone wants to read it - trust me, bale did the right thing by insisting on those rewrites.
Also, alot of people complain that there isn't enough character development, but McG talks about that here: (basically, theres 30 minutes of cut footage)

I have the Extreme edition (which has two), but I know what you're talking about. The original, theatrical version is the best. The extended adds 20 minutes of redundant filler and just slows down the pace of the movie too much. There's one good scene, but the movie's much better without the rest.
There's also the alternate extended one which adds a new ending that shows a happy future - also worse.
-
The only interest I have in this movie is because Christian bale is in it.He's been my favorite actor since I first saw american psycho
-
seen it the other day, it just felt cheesy and they were throwing random stuff around hoping it would stick. I lost interest half way through the film. good action but nothing that will make me want to see this movie again like the other terminator flicks. T2>T1>>T3>>>>>T4
big fail, hopefully McG retires. like some have said this feels like what batman and robin (T4) were to Darknight (T2, T1)

Not much has come out this year, usually movies start rolling in the summer (the block buster type ones) and then in Fall (for the "Oscar" and "artsy" ones). I don't get the Star Trek hate on here, what's wrong with it? And no way is Wolverine better, that's a 7/10 for me. Star Trek is 8.8/10, and you're going to see it on a lot of people's top ten lists by the end of the year.
-
I don't fall for blockbuster hype, Transformers is one of the movies I've come to hate so much and people bust a nut over that. The time traveling aspect of Star Trek is hardly a reason why I thought Star Trek was really good though. It's not like if they were using it as a way to say, "Hey look at how clever we are". It's just there to make you think that the characters you know of Star Trek have their future unwritten thanks to this alternate reality. All the actors in the film were great, there were a lot of great scenes in the movie. One of the scenes that stand out was the where Kirk and Cho's character were falling and they were in the process of being teleported back to the ship...and the Russian barely made it. That was a well shot scene right there,
-
I started to watch Lost, I'm in episode 7 of Season 1, so far it's good stuff. I imagine it's only going to get better though. Not sure about the Sarah Connor tv series, is it worth checking out?
-
In fairness to Star Trek, what I'm talking about is that they didn't spend so much dealing with the whole time traveling aspect of the movie. It's just there to make you actually "worry" about the characters because it's in an alternate reality already...but either way I can't wait to continue watching Lost.
Going off topic, maybe I should start a new topic but damn TV Shows are outshining movies these days. Shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men are fucking brilliant and I can put these up with the best movies of the last 5 years. Even the not so "critically acclaimed" shows I've come to enjoy alot. Shows like Fringe and Heroes are pretty cool, it's like popcorn TV lol.

Have to jump in on this one because I am a huge fan of Wolverinw the character and I have to say that the movie was absolutely terrible. I'm not the biggest Trekkie but Star Trek blows Wolverine out of the water. They PG'd his harater to death. They made Sabretooth his brother for no reason. It's bad a enough he's such a sap with Jean Gray they have to give him another stupid girl to pine over. Having adamantium bullets make him lose his memory was almost as stupid as being able to predict that adamantium bullets would make him lose his memory. The whole film was suxh a mess. Most Marvel films are though. Punisher Warzone was great though. It didn't attempt to be anything more than it was and God bless them for it.

I'm neither a Trekkie or Marvel fantast
(I used to read the comics as a kid,but don't remember details like sabretooth story and what not).
I'm a outsider and judge them from that standpoint. ;)
The Marvel movies for the most part is targeted at kids,so they lack the edge.
But Wolverine got the edge I was missing,so.....
I saw no edge. I may be a comic fan but I'm not one of those fans that needs the film to follow the book. My main complaint with Iron Man was it stayed to true too the book in some parts. Wolverine was simply a bad movie. You want Edge? Watch Punisher Warzone.
I don't care that Sabretooth was his brother. Shit he was originally intended to be his father. I just don't see why you'd want to kill your brother for pretending to kill your girlfriend. A lot of shit was just stupid in that film.
-
I see your point, will check punisher asap. you don't happen to have rapidshare links handy?
I downloaded it as a torrent.
I really don't know why it was so panned. I guess people got so used to stupid kiddie Marvel films trying to be more than they are and attempting complex themes like equating the muntant gene with homosexuality and stupid shit like that.Punisher is a story about an ex soldier to takes revenge for his murdered family by killing every fucking low life he gets his hands on. he's Batman with a set of balls. Nothing more than that.
Besides that, I just love the way it's shot and the tone it sets. It's a little weird, but very dark tone that really makes the movie look different. It's not winning any Oscars, but what makes it so great is that it doesn't pretend to think it should win any Oscars, which is what kills most of Marvels films for me.
-

Don't worry I'll find links. it's fairly new right?
Yeah, last year.

Well I always thought T3 was underrated. had great action scenes and the ending was much better. but it did the job for me. Now T4, I get that its suppose to be about after the bombs fell but they just had way to many holes in the story and add the fact that the acting wasnt great. I guess im just not a fan of McG's way of directing.
-
I loved Transformers and usually I hate movies like that
-
I loved transformers.that was a michael bay film.Pearl harbor was awful but I enjoyed the island and bad boys movies
-
at first i didn't to much care about checking out this movie, but now im interested . Good ish i'll go see it this weekend
-
I was really hyped to see this movie but from all the reviews it seems like it was a very disappointing flick.
-
just seen it and thought it would be disappointing
but i really like it
8.6/10
-
i enjoyed this movie quite a bit didnt find the acting to be too bad. some corny scenes but other then that great movie. LMAO at T3 > TS thats just wrong in so many ways ::)
-
It was great hearing Guns N Roses ''You Could Be Mine'' again in Terminator Salvation just like in T2.
The movie is a great action movie. But you can't make a real Terminator without Arnold!
They did the best they could!
-
I really liked this movie... Way better than T3, that's for certain.
I really like the way they filmed the chopper crash when John Connor was flying it in the beginning. The action scenes were good.
-
I thought it was a good movie. My personal favorites were T2 next T1, then T4, finally T3 (thought it was a good movie to setup a new series of movies...sometimes you have to sacrifice for that)
The thing that I liked about T1 and T2 was the villains. They were unstoppable and just when you thought Arnold was unstoppable in the first one, t1000 came out (still the best to me), t3 fell back with the chick though.
Only thing I didn't like about Salvation was the relentlessness missing that was present in the other movies. Action was great, however in spots.

Barely saw it yesterday, n I thot it was dope. Moon Bloodgood is fuckin fine :o McG shoulda put the scene of her naked in the movie but fuk it I can wait til the DVD drops.
-

some different shit but it was some futuristic shit-like whats gon happen in the future when everyone saves the world lol
lol @ them usin the arnold salty nutts face
but yeah id have to say the prolly t2 is the best 1 wit t1 bein close up there
-
just saw it and it was good...8/10 8)

IMO
T1>T2>T3>TS
Reason is T3 while it wasn't needed, didn't do the bitch move and actually let Judgement day happen.Because of the advancements not seen in the previous timeline, TS represented some good changes, but it fucked up a lot of factors. Over all IMO
T1-9
T2-9
T3-7
TS-6.7
I heard James Cameron is coming back to director Terminator 6.
-
seen it the other day, it just felt cheesy and they were throwing random stuff around hoping it would stick. I lost interest half way through the film. good action but nothing that will make me want to see this movie again like the other terminator flicks. T2>T1>>T3>>>>>T4
big fail, hopefully McG retires. like some have said this feels like what batman and robin (T4) were to Darknight (T2, T1)
...you call this cheesy but then you say T3 is better?
sorry, cant take that seriously.

t2 better than t1? yeah right. T1 is what made the series go on.
-
i watched the first 20 minutes on a pirated copy and this movie seemed maaad wack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! turned that shit off, delete.
-
i aint even wastin time on this shit...if the governor aint it then i aint fuccin wit it. cant none of the shit top T2 anyway.

'
Sorta lol It was CGI and god damn it was really short. If you saw the trailer with him. Thats the entire cameo. lol After that you only see his shadow or his legs never the head part again. I thought it was cheap. lol
-
damn im not a big fan of goin to the movies really but this was dope and im thinkin bout seein it again
(its not at the movies anymore is it??) lol

No, you might be able 2 find it in the smaller theaters, but chances are its being made for DVD right now. You could torrent it seeing as how the fckin rip of the screener dropped.
-
damn i dont know i was feelin the effex of this in the movies tho....it was some real life type shit

This is a great film! I like it more than previous!

I also thought this movie was pretty cool. There seems to be a lot of people who didn't like it. I wouldn't say it's my favorite of the Terminator films, but I think it's a lot better than Terminator 3. I was kind of bummed over the P-13-ification of this movie, when the previous entries were all rated R. But I will say that for a PG-13 rated movie, the violence level in this movie is still pretty high.
Also, I thought thought the cameo was pretty cool. Although it was obviously cgi, that was the most formidable he's looked in these films since the first one. He looked way more imposing there than he did when they made part 3 and he was quite noticeably older and smaller than in the first two movies.
-
I wanna see a fuccin rematch between T-800 and T-1000...with arnold and that other dude...and have spencer pratt make a cameo appearance in a scene where T-1000 puts his fist through his head. i'd pay triple to see that shit
-
might wanna spoiler tag that somehow, its a great moment for people that dont know about it.
WTF??? you put TS over the OG? Are you fucking crazy???
-
yeah the og was dope but damn this one was clean too
the og prolly wins but this comes close IMO
-

Terminator Salvation was a piece of shit. If you can't really see that, you need a head examine. Besides the constant plotholes, shitty character development, and the over all faggotry of it. T3 was way better. T3 may of had comedy, and it may of Not been needed, but THIS was not needed. T3 was good cause it didn't do the bitch move and prevent Judgement day. This did the bitch move by ignore nearly everything in the previous 3 movies, Taking on elements of The Matrix and Transformers. They did the stupidest things that don't make sense every couple of minutes.
The R rating wouldn't of helped this, even if they ampped up the violence its a piece of shit. Its amazing 200 million wasted, while District 9 was made only for 20mil and was 10 times better. The terminator Franchise has officially gone the way of hollywood. Generic, unintelligent, and uninspiring. Honestly, rewatch T1 and T2 and T3 future scenes and You'll see they didn't get shit right.
I mean They had a scene in L.A. were are the skulls? How come we didn't get to actually see The City of Angels in a destroyed hell....Honestly I like it, but this was sell out material at the max.

I don't know. I agree with you that the ending of T3 was pretty cool. And I gotta give them respect for keeping T3 rated R. There was definitely some cool shit in T3. But overall, it was way too campy. I mean, it wasn't Batman and Robin campy. But it was way more campy than a Terminator movie should be.
While TS wasn't a perfect movie by any stretch, I enjoyed it more than T3 just because it was done in a completely serious tone. The action sequences in TS were really well executed too.
Really, I think everything that's been done with the franchise post Terminator 2 has been unnecessary, but I've enjoyed all the movies. I just liked Terminator Salvation a bit more than Terminator 3.
-
nah i said the first 1 and SECOND 1 (T2) is prolly the best but t3 wasnt that bad...some futuristic shit

If you're going off the just the tone then use TS is better then the T3 comedy. But compare all the flaws, T3 didn't contradict, and gave a gave a reason (Even though it still wasn't needed). But T3 at least fit in the storyline and could of been used to set up teh Future easier. With the advancement of weapons, tech, everything when T3 came, It would of been easier to make the transition to the aftermath both on film and in the story. eh either way I hope James Cameron returns for T5 I hear he might come back directing.
but another thing lots of the hardcore fans seem to keep mentioning. Cameron liked T3, He didn't have TS back at all.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to sound like I hate T3. I thought the story in T3 was pretty cool. And like you said, the ending was cool. I even like some of the humor. For instance, the scene where they're in the cemetary and Dr. Silberman sees the Terminators again and runs away. I thought that was pretty funny, and a cool nod to the other movies. Some of the humor though, went a little too far. I wasn't too thrilled with the "talk to the hand line," and I really hated the part where Arnold put on the star shaped, stripper sunglasses. All in all, I still liked the movie. I actually found it on blu-ray the other day for 10 bucks, and was pretty happy to find it for that price as it was also the only one I didn't have yet on blu-ray.
Regarding what you said about Cameron returning to the franchise, I hadn't heard anything but that would be great if he did. I still think the first two are the best, and I doubt any of the sequels will ever surpass those.

Yeah they did, but No Cameron didn't give the blessing. That was later found out to be a misconception between the two. MCG later said he didn't like the franchise. He went bitch after it flopped. If you visit IMDB page for TS lots of the posters posted all the articles and stuff. but yeah, The entire thing fell apart for a lot.
Also yeah, They said he might return as the director. But I doubt it given the fact hes moved on and already workin on Avatar.

I'll still watch the extended version of TS if it still comes out tho, even If I doubt it'll improve the movie

Yeah, I plan on watching the Directors cut also. But I bet it will be like saw 5. Saw 5 directors cut was promised to be 15 minutes longer, all they did was extend a couple of scenes by a few seconds and the entire movie via 5 or 6. IMO A directors Cut won't add anything. I'll probably get it, but its not on my to do list.
