Title: OTC painkillers: Ibuprofen > any other
Post by: Sofa_King_Awesome on June 04, 2009, 12:01:22 PM
I have a sore throat since Sunday. Went to see the doc on Tuesday because it wasn't getting better, thinking I have strep throat. The dr. said no strep throat but did see some white spots near my tonsils. Fucking hurts when I swallow. Been popping Ibuprofen (four) 200mg. and it works like a charm. So my conclusion, over the counter painkillers
Ibuprofen > aspirin> acetaminophen

I had the same thing in December. White spots in my throat and my throat started to swell. I couldn't swallow for a week (no homo).  Ibuprofen worked like a charm and I didn't even use the painkillers they gave me....fuckin drug pushers.

Did the doc give you any antibiotics?

No, the doc said it wasn't strep throat so no need for antibiotics. Only thing she was willing to prescribe was Ibuprofen 800 mg. but I was in a rush to get out of there, so I bought otc ibuprofen @ Walgreens. She (the doc) also said I would probably have the sore throat/lymph node for about a week :-\

That's weird because I had the exact same symptoms with the lymph nodes and white spots and I got diagnosed with strep and got antibiotics. But I don't think you said your throat was swelling up so that is probably the big difference.

Amoxicillin is the shit. That liquid bubble gum flavor is bangin', only medicine I'll ever take. It's off the chain. Lol...

Gargle with salt and warm water.

Aleve uses the naproxen drug. Can't say that I've tried it. I'll do a lil personal experiment and see how it works

Yeah, I don't have a swollen throat, just my right side lymph node/ jugular vein area, almost near my right ear passage, right side back of tongue, down to my right side under chin shaving area soreness
