this has got to be one of the worst produced albums ive ever heard... the beats are straight wack for the most part.... i mean sum of the beats have a hard hitting kick with a dope bassline but then they got some annoying ass noise in the background and it sounds to me like quik tried to use those claps dre has been using lately but they came out wack in this case....
overall its bad.... i was really looking forward to this too.... I was thinking this was gunna be one of the best albums in years but it turned out to be a huge dissapointment...
-
THe intro seems banging. At least this is Quik at his best 8)
-
I partly agree, on that Do You Know track, the 'background singing' is annoying as fuck, but overall it's a pretty good album imo
-
I think for the most of the album, Quik handled the production well. Like an evolved Quik in modern time. Its funky, its fresh...can't ask for much more I think.

tha album is bangin for the most part.i admit it had to grow on me but it has.On another note alot of us on this booard is criticizing this album and didnt even buy it.lolwe d/l the leak.So just shut up and enjoy it.and if u want the west to b on top again buy the album and show support. And quit trying to shit on Quik he IS The Best Producer on the west so he has earned the right to experiment.Just like Dre has the right to put out an album every 10 years lol[sarcasm]

This album is okay for 2009 standards. This is not the Quik I want to hear. I want his timeless music.
I don't like the skit on BlaQKout. And Watcha Wan Do twice on the album is just not smart.
But some of the tracks are really dope. It's just too short...
-
So far it's funky, some pretty fresh records here and there..
-
Guess who and from what coast keeps on living in the past.
-
BlaQKout is a quality album there's only a few skippers, which I've actually heard people say they like... It's all opinion, but there's some incredibly well produced songs on here.
BTW: I WILL be copping this.

your an idiot
-
i think some sound cluttered and some are missing something. he is experimenting, but its not as good as some of his best beats.
-
Quik is trying to invent some new sound but the shit is falling flat on its face cuz its real lackluster compared to his older style. If it aint broke dont fix it..
-
Been down w/Quik since day 1, bought 'Quik is the name" cassette back in the day.
and his music has never failed me once.
Just realize it ain't 19XX anymore & enjoy Quik's growth.
The best producer in Hip-Hip. IMO.

He isn't the only one. ::)

Half the beats are pretty good, but most of the songs suck. Quik and Kurupt don't have a lot of chemistry, and most of the tracks sound only mildly thought out. Especially "9x out of 10", that shit is some of the worst song making in west coast history. Kurupt sounds terrible, the beat is awful, and the flow is nearly non-existent. How could two people make a worse song? It's numbing. The same people who like this album probably liked the Fixxers album as well. This album could of been so much better, and it was just mediocre. If you were blown away by this shit, you seriously need to re-evaluate you're entire life.

My ears don't deceive me, this album is on a whole 'nother level. Thank God we've got a producer and lyricist like Quik and Kurupt to relieve us from the wackness that is brainwashing all of these new generation douchebags. Been a lifelong fan of these two, and a lot has changed in hip-hop, but this album proves that this is the era of greatness. Bow down new jacks and continue to bump your bubbles. Last of a dying breed.

This album was straight garbage ! The intro was good , but only because the rest of it was extremely terrible. I mean , I love Quik more than most , but this shit he's been doing is weird and a far cry from what it used to be .The strange beats are just impossible to get into, and his skills on the mic have slipped because there is no authority behind his lyrics .
-
wheres the g-funk guys
wheres the pendletons?!
WHERES THE KHAKIS?!
yall muhfuckas man
this album was pretty good

I agree....at first I wasn't feeling it but after a few spins I thought the same thing.
-
i dont know DJ Quik is washed up , he aint the same . he went too soft for me .. not feeling kurupts simple rhymes either . terrible album .
-
After listening to the entire album, I have mixed opinions....On one hand, tracks like "Blaqkout," "Cream In Ya Panties," and the ultra-smooth "The Appeal" are excellent and on par with Quik's signature sound. Other songs seem fragmented and just out of sync with the album like "Whatcha Wan Do" and "Exodus." There is a lack of balance and fluidity in the album; either the tracks are REALLY GOOD or REALLY BAD. If the good are enough to make up for the bad will remain to be seen. I have been a life-long DJ Quik fan so any and all good material from Quik will get a purchase out of me. But I think that if he would've based the album more along the lines of the first 3 tracks + "The Appeal", he would've had a more solid, parallel and well-rounded album. Either way, I can't wait for Quik's next solo LP... This seems to be where he really buckles down and delivers.
-
This is Quik's worst album... Let's hope he will deliver something classic with his upcoming solo album.
DJ Quik + G-One + Robert Bacon + Suga Free + Raphael Saadiq = Classic Timeless Hit Record
-
Yeah Quiks career been over with , its kinda sad though . he aint had a big hit since Just lyke Compton in 1992 .
-
THe intro seems banging. At least this is Quik at his best 8)
I was really hyped about this album after the leak of hey playa ,but at the end of the day musically this album is nothing innovative imo.
The intro is just nice, sounds like the same "old shit".
The beat of "Do You Know" is boring as hell, "Watcha wan do" souns like a bad neptunes production.....god dammit this is really annoying!
"Ohh" is a mess of samples, voices and keys.....wtf is this ? He was fuckin with the shrooms during the production of this song or what ?
"Exodus" is not only wack musically, but even lyrically.....this one got no sense at all,if this is "some next level shit" quik must be out of his mind.
"Jupiters" sounds like a Black eyed peas song :P
This album is a mess
-
I'd have to agree, I was looking to buy an album today, and I didn't, I grew up on Quik, and then Kurupt and I'd have to say really disappointed, did they have a listening party for this? did they get feed back on this? Did all the yes men say it was dope? what the hell, I hate to say it but the quality of the kind of albums coming out from the OG's just make me belive that we ( west coast music buyers) should start investing our money on New artist coming outta the west.
-
DJ Quik & Warren G. Now that'd be a better collaboration album. Anyone remember the song "Don't Tell" from Snoop's No Limit Top Dogg album?
-
The album sounds excellent to me. Like Quik said, he's 14 years ahead of niggaz. Whatcha Wan Do and Exodus are skippable but overall the album is dope, pure Columbian.
-
This album is alright. Half of its good and half of its fuckin brutal!!!
Im feelin,
BlaQKout
Cream N Ya Panties
Do You Know
Fuck Yall
Hey Playa
9x Outta 10
The Appeal
The rest are fuckin WACKKKK, holy shit. Watcha Wan Do, Exodus and Jupiter's are prob the top 3 shittiest Quik songs ever made lol, what the hell was he thinking? How do those songs even sound good to him...i can understand Watcha Wan Do might but those other 2 wack songs? Hopefully Quiks's solo album is MUCH better then this, if not...then hes lost it for damn sure!!!
-
i think some sound cluttered and some are missing something. he is experimenting, but its not as good as some of his best beats.
The album isn't half bad, some songs he coulda worked on more or less, depending on how you look at it. I like the Exodus track, he shoulda put a verse or two there. The only song I can't get into is the Jupiter track, I don't know what he was thinking, was he tryna introduce the new 'auto tune'?.
-
i agree this album is terrible , subject matter and lyrics are poor . and the music sounds generic , not like the Quik and Kurupt of old for sure . not a good album .
-
Although all these delays, I think the whole record was record on one single Saturday. Blaqckoutq sounds like a "Best of Myspace producers" than what you would expect from a professional musician with almost 20 years of experience.
Quik said that they made this album just for fun which pretty much explains everything. Prostitutes, weed and Hennessy, they put it in print just to get enough money to cover all the expenses of making this album. No reaching for Billboard. Just get a few loyalist from Dubcc to buy it and send a copy to their baby mommas who will give it 5 Mics. Makes sense.
-
i agree this album is terrible , subject matter and lyrics are poor
LMAO. Like gangsta rap lyrics are so good anyways.
-
yeah that new Quik & Kurupt album is hella corny , it sounds stale and kurupt is not good over thos watered down Quik beats .
-
im glad im not tha only 1 who thinks that album was fuckin wack as hell. >:(
-
2 be honest im not feeling the album..no disrespect 2 quik or nothing but im just not n2 this one
