This isn't simply who has the best stats so far this season or who has had the best career, but who you would take in a playoff game where you need to protect a 1-run lead. A lot of options here, if you select other, say who and why.
Rivera: 14 saves, 3.20 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 30 K's
Broxton: 14 saves, 1.50 ERA, .70 WHIP, 49 K's
Hoffman: 15 saves, 0.00 ERA, .47 WHIP, 15 K's
Rodriguez: 16 saves, 0.65 ERA, .98 WHIP, 31 K's
Papelbon: 14 saves, 2.16 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 28 K's
Lidge: 13 saves, 7.27 ERA, 1.81 WHIP, 28 K's
Nathan: 12 saves, 2.01 ERA, .90 WHIP, 26 K's
Bell: 17 saves, 1.42 ERA, .99 WHIP, 31 K's

K-Rod now but Rivera in his prime
-
i'd say it's close between K-Rod & Paps, but leaning towards K-Rod.
but Mo all time, hands down. 8)
-
I think I'd go with Broxton right now, he is the least experienced outside of Heath Bell, but he is just dominating hitters right now. I know he goes against the weak NL West and his stuff has never seemed that amazing other than being such a high velocity, but I can only doubt for so long. This guy is for real and seems to take away all hope for a rally when he takes the mound.
-
Mariano 8)
-
i don't know honestly. i've watched broxton for a while now and i can't say him for absolute certain, but anyone of them can have their dominating nights.
-
All I know is Krod has been better than advertised.
-
RIGHT NOW...broxton or hoffman.

RIGHT NOW...broxton or hoffman.
Broxton has two blown saves and Hoffman is a compiler.
-
everyone has blown saves when its all said and done...and at the end of the year, broxton will be a top 3 closer...if not better :bandit:
-
K-Rod, hands down. Am I the only one that voted for him?
His been doing it at a high level for so long.
-
its definately NOT lidge, jesus, i voted k-rod, as annoying he is to watch, he is sick
-
Krod

Krod has been perfect this season so far. Heath Bell only has one blown save as wel.. I would take both of them over Broxton.
-
This is a very tough choice. Before the season I'd probably go with Papelbon or Rivera but they have had a less than fantastic season so far. And Hoffman has been plain unhittable so far, would be tough not to give him the ball. K-Rod has been great, better season than last year's overrated season for sure.
Probably between K-Rod or Hoffman I guess.

man i miss rob nen :-[

man i miss rob nen :-[
Word, he was lights-out, it was very troubling to watch Benitez blow saves all the time after watching several great years of Nen.
What happened to Lidge though? I brought up this poll because I would have gone with him hands-down coming into the season after last year's performance, but I think he has 7 blown saves now!!! This is a hard question so early into the year, but I'd go K-Rod with Papelbon 2nd, even though I dislike both players.

no comparison!!! Beck wasnt as good as Nen but he was still great for us
-
Nothing better then that late game in 97 on a windy day at the stick when the shooter locked up the NL west Title for us with a huge save against SD.
-
^^Yes those were some great memories. Beck was a good closer, Benitez was the Mets putting a paper bag of dogshit on our doorstep and lighting it on fire.
By the way, Rivera and Rodgriguez both struggled yesterday, although K-Rod's problem was Luis Castillo making one of the worst plays in baseball history.
-
Wilson is 2nd in svs and has svd 17of 20 hes gotta be on this list...shit may get scary but he gets it done
-
^^Yeah, I didn't want to put too many people on the list when it was obvious they weren't going to be the choice, and his stats don't quite measure up. As long as he keeps getting the job done, I don't care how it happens, although I prefer the ones where he strikes out everyone and doesn't get into a bases-loaded jam.

me 2 but saves are saves and if u get saves 90 percent of the time thats all that really matters
-
k rod was a gangster today so he earned some respect from me, but i'm sure if he pulled that shit on brox brox would blow him away with a dodger dog fart (all my dodger compadres know what i'm talking about)
-
Mariano is a g, one of the few Yanks I respect, dude's been amazing for years and years, but currently I think the winner is K Rod.
-
well look at that...krod has blown 2 saves in his last 3 opportunities.
