well to be honest.....credentials count alot.....thats like a journalist making up fake stories to make his article sound better....you cant do that, no matter how great of a journalist you are, because you are lying to the people and selling a front as the real thing.....
picture it this way....theres a huge difference between Eminem's 3 AM and pretty much every song done by Rick Ross......HUGE DIFFERENCE.....we all kno that shit that Eminem is rapping about did not happen and is done for creative purposes only....while Rick Ross on the other hand......hes makin music strictly for the purpose of boosting up his cocaine dealer image thats not even real......

2pac was the realest guy in the game. He had respect from every gang, had worked with the OG Crips/Bloods to help with the 1992 peace treaty (no longer in effect). He always hung out in the hood in cities in was in (parties and shit).He gave directly to the people, made the code of THUG LIFE (which amazingly a lot of gangsters followed outta respect).He had made houses so people with no money could stay in em.People who were close to him when he grew up, were taken care of. He stayed true, didn't claim no set, told his life with no drama or fake.That's why he was considered to be the realest, Never claimed gangster. Look at his albums, shit even All Eyez wasn't gangster, was him talking about his life as a rapper.

also....2pac was "real" as fuck.....if being real means calling out real life gangsters (Haitian Jack, Jimmy Henchmen) on diss records and straight up disrespecting them on Against All Odds, or being involved in the hit of an old friend turned Bad Boy affliate (forgot the name) and straight up boasting about the hit on Against All Odds.....like thats some gangster ass shit in my opinion
and to be honest, i might get slack for this, but as a true 2pac fan, I can say that Pac living up to his gangster image is really what lead to his downfall....dude got into so many beefs with so many crews and individuals, that theres a huge list of possibilities on who couldve actually shot him....not only that....he was going against lot of his principles that he used to rap about (like anti black on black violence, respecting women) after signing with Death Row, where he was greatly influenced to "be gangster".....thats why i think songs like "Until the End of Time" and "Who Do You Believe in" and "Changes" and countless others were never released because it would throw off the overall gangster sound of his Death Row albums......but in the first two songs, if you listen to his lyrics, you can definitely hear his struggle with his own self.....
anyways, didnt mean to go off on that, just thought I'd put in my 2 cents about Pac's "gangsterness"

I think it was misunderstood with Dre, and NWA. They presented in the music what existed in the streets. The things on the records are not exaggeration of what really goes on in the hood. It is when rappers pretend they Scarface or Escobar, (Ex: Rick Ross), but most yall think it' pretending to be gangsta. It's not what they talked is the average things in the hood. Some artist not necessarilyy saying it's them but depict whats happening.
When you live in the hood you see those thing son the average, and the people around ti don't see like fans look at it when it's from the musical perspective, they see it as a way of life, unfortunately.
however, some artist o d cause they inderstood thats what sell so they fabricated the image aboutthemsevels. When Dre and did it they were being themselve, musically. Not on bdanwagon so it can't be said they did to sell records cause it was from the heart, their environment.

Yep, Snoop actually banged blood in the start of his musical career. I've heard it myself in 2 unreleased Snoop tracks in his first instance on Death Row. Then later he's crip? He represented in a way that whilst on Death Row he was (along with Suge/2Pac) gave back into the community, and they all had plans to further their charitable nature into day care centres, restruants, little league teams, and had plans for it all. 2Pacs' death, and Suges sentance caused a lot of these people - Snoop, Daz etc. to go on and exploit the image while giving less back. In Snoop's defence though, all of his albums always contained a new singer, rapper, producer or whoever - he always gave oppertunities in his records for younger people who were hungry and of courser - talented.
Hood/street cred is "nothing" in comparison to kindness and sincerity and that's more real to me than who can go out and use a gun

Exactly. Hip-hop is wrestling. Just like wrestlers, some of the rappers create an image and characteristiscs that is grounded in truth but often colorfully exagerated.
I always get amused by these threads because they always pop up every year or so and it's always the same crap. There is no rapper with a platinum plaque on his wall or who appears on MTV that is going around the hood shooting people in numbers or selling large sums of dope. You can't be a high-profile public personality whose image is on TV and be involved in heavy drug trafficking and murder. Especially if you're selling records to 11 million people talking about it. That doesn't mean that all these rappers are soft and don't have respect in their hoods. But that is not what they are talking about on records.
If you think anyone in N.W.A., even Eric Wright, was doing even 10% of the stuff they talked about on their group or solo records then you are a fucking idiot. Let's be real here. Eric might have had a criminal record and ties to Kelly Park Crips going into N.W.A. and the start of Ruthless but do you really think with a multi-million dollar company to run, he was doing dirt on the street? Maybe some of you are too young to understand the full situation but N.W.A. was on the radar of every law enforcement agency in the country after "Fuck the Police". If there was even the slighest reason to believe that any of these guys had heavy gang affiliations or were dealing drugs, carrying illegal firearms, or any of that shit, they would have come down on them.
