as hack wilson said, we live in the digital age now.

If you count downloads (not just the legal ones) it would already be platinum

i'd bet against that.

i bet more rap fans don't know about it than do; the promotion was terrible.

only West Coast dudes & some online homies knew it dropped. :-\

^ the sad truth, and there was only a little ad in the latest XXL but that was all for promo

if this would have come out maybe around the time Trauma did I bet it would have sold at least 30-50K

if Hey Playa hit the radio waves across the country that shit would have sold; that was a real dope single & it was radio freindly.

just terrible promotion & like i've said in other threads about these sales; you have to understand the times, people don't want rap anymore; it's gotta be "swaggaful" & have Drake, Wayne, Kanye or autotune to be successful.

only T.I. & Game put out successful rap music & T.I. had to sell out with "Whatever You Like" for sales, so basically Game is the only mainstream dude who hasn't sold out...yet. :-X

i know im gonna catch hate for this but personally 'My Life' was abit of a sell out record, cheesy over-dramatic song with an autotuned wayne chorus :(

na, it's a dope opinon; i guess you could look at it that way.

but Game doesn't really sell out on that track; he doesn't go "super mainstream" & sound like a bitch; song about lost homies.

i admit goin' to Wayne is BITCH move, but i mean it was the smartest way to sell records & he didn't put him on a verse; Wayne's hook was dope on that song to me.

but i see what you're sayin' about that track; but that wasn't sell out like "Whatever You Like", it was still more G than anything you'll hear if you turn your radio on now.

It sold what it deserved to sell. The album was wack.I'm a fan of both artist but this album was ass.Mediocre production and kurupt can't spit a cohesive verse to save his life these days.

Kurupt use to be one of my favorite artist but the boy lyrics on this album is just terrible.nothing stand out or astonishing about them.

dj quik put a few decent beats on the album but man dj quik should of produced the album better and he should of rap on the album better.the album got a few alright songs on it but i wish it was a solid album considering kurupt and dj quik is 2 of the top westcoast rappers, or they was.

why are everybody so surprised, its a independent album, almost didt get any promo at all.. + its a average album ..

12000 its not so bad when you count all that in..

Almost every mainstream album get first week sales off 40000-60000 these days.

We live in a digital age where people are buying more songs/records and album are just getting leaked 2 weeks before realease.. Most people are just seaching dj quik click click , album downloaded.
This site are no different everytime a "the game" album or  snoop dogg album coming, everybody is like "where can i download the album"!!!!! or "is it leaked"!!! ..

we are in a digital age enough said, the nly ones thats surviving is the mainstream artist .

album was not garbage, quik had dope production that as usual goes largely ignored. he used chopped samples like kayne oh ohhh and schooled these down south producers on their own style. he had hey playa where he used a sample from a tv show and made it off the hook! he used classic quik sound on the 1st two songs and fuck yall, went a lil different on 9x outta 10... seriously what more do you want? this is one of the best albums to come out this year and people like you keep trashing it. ill take this album over a lil wayne album any day of the week

A good album?Well lately to be honest they are hard to come by.I'd say kurupts first three solo albums are good.dogg food was amazing.Almost all of quiks catalog is good. The last album to come out that I really enjoyed was probably Joe budden padded room and doom born like this.As for westcoast I can't even recall the last good westcoast album.Lax was trash.Actually the jacka tear gas was good

thats the problem your stuck in the past. i love music from the past too, its classic, but i can tell you dont like anything new. quik has evolved his sound the same way dre has. they both keep elements that allow their sound to be distinguished but at the same time they modernize it. i like what quik did on this album. he had some dope beats on that cd but they were modern at the same time. you should really listen to the things he did on that album and you might appreciate it more. he managed in my opinion to balance his new style with classic quik at the same time.
Title: Re: DJ QUIK KURUPT SALES
Post by: Jaydc555 on June 30, 2009, 09:54:41 AM
I'm not stuck in the past at all.Its just shitty music. Both of these artist are well passed their prime.Kurupt can't say anything cohesive anymore and quiks production was bland and boring. It was beyond generic.Sorry but I'd rather listen to crooked I and g Malone and nipsey and cashis and bishop over kurupt and quik in 2009.That's because I'm not stuck in the past.I like the music being made by todays artists.Problem is none of them release albums.Instead we get albums like this a or a new daz that just sounds like they aren't even trying to make good music.

It's quite the opposite. Kurupt is decent nowadays but DJ Quik needs to give up rapping. On Hey Playa can you explain to me what he's rapping about? Quik should release instrumental albums from now on. He's a musical genius when he wants to be but he is trying too hard to blow up commercially. If he was a perfectionist like Dre, then maybe he would be mentioned with the top west coast artists known by everyone today. Hell, I think Dre is a great producer but I think he's way overrated. But I guarantee no Dre album would sell 10,000 copies

Why? In all honesty I'd pay for this album for Hey Playa alone, thats the best song I've heard that came out the west in years. No joke that beat is something special. And don't get it twisted I never even really listened to quik until I heard that joint. I think the song is that good, and there were a solid 5 songs on there to back it up too.

Its a good album. Its dope, something differant, kinda more grown/mature sounding on some songs, has some classic sound has some experimental. Kurupt sounds good on it but i can see how some people wouldnt like him on it cos its so laid back overal, except for 9x outta 10 i cant think of any others where kurupt is aggresive.
Album has a good vibe, not always in teh mood for such smooth laid back stuff but its a good album. Not sure why they put that one track on there twice though???
And a Snoop feature would've been good, he woulda sounded real good over some of those beats.

Bah, the beats are average at best and experimental at worst.
If he wanted experiment a mixtape would have been well suited for that.
You experiment when you're not sure, when you're sure of the result you put it on wax and print a million copy just to begin with. Then you market it like crazy and you make a killing.

If he wanted to make some doe, tour the FUCKING WORLD on so on he had to listen to us.
We wanna hear a "top of my tree house" like track, we wanna hear a "live from la" like track i mean does Quck a.k.a. Dirty Rat even get that in his little brain ? I'm not sure.

Do we wanna hear more grown up lyrics, sure we do but certainly not this kind of techno crap experimental farce.Sales talk, point blank.

Word to the wise

Agree with all, besides the sales part. What about Wayne? lol!!!

I loved:

Quik Is The Name
Way Too Funky

Real old school West Coast, and funky. I still have these tapes to this day, and re-bought the CD's later. Quik was my favourite artist, and the one who got me into Hip Hop. His voice was easy to listen to, and understand word-for-word back then

Safe & Sound
Rhythm-alism
Balance & Options

Damm. The production on ALLLL of these albums is what DJ Quik sound is all about, and why he has/had such a huge fan base, coupled with his signature sound production 2nd II None's Classic 220 album, Mausbergs inlcuding his own had loads of West and mainstream artists requesting his work, Dre, Janet Jackson, Jay Z. I wish he could go back to this sound. Theee DJ Quik sound, and what you expect and think when you hear his name

Under The Influence
Trauma

Under The Influence was ok to good. Different from the norm and what we were used to, but not wack. Trauma was experimental too, but more modern and of a higher quality than Under The Influence

Midnight Life
BlaQKout

Poor quality electronic sounding garbage, and average at best. Sloppy efforts that lack the quality of any previous album. That's 2 wack releases now. If his album for xmas is the same, then I'll give up hope for Quik

Yeah most agree Quiks career and music just aint the same . fell off hard

his music expect for fixxers has been on point people just dont follow for some reason. balance and options, rhythmalism, under the influence, trauma, and blaqkout all had DOPE production. tell me anyone else with that many albums worth of good beats

DJ Premier on at least 4 of Gang Starr's albums and both Jeru The Damaja's albums.  ;D

Wow...I just got the chance to give this album a listen and I must say, Quik continues to impress me. It is obvious the man was born to make music at a ridiculously talented level.

My first impressions when I heard these two were doing work together was that they would put out one of the greatest rap music pieces together. With Kurupt's struggle to deliver that unraw gangsta shit he's known for, the album was consequently dropped a notch.

"Blaqkout", "Cream N Ya Panties", Do You Know", "Fuck Yall", and "The Appeal" cement Dj Quik as a superstar behind the music. His manner of pulling off some innovating Westcoast sounding beats mixed with a new sound is unbeleivable.

Because of their statuses, I am a bit dissappointed at some of the two-three garbage tracks on there.

Overall, I am glad to see Quik still being such a genius and having fun.
