THE BEST RAPPER EVER: Eminem vs. 2Pac
It all comes down to this...
We can’t say we’re surprised. With four MCs left standing as we entered the semi-finals of VIBE Presents THE BEST RAPPER EVER last week, including a rematch of the finals for last year’s THE BEST RAPPER ALIVE, our money was on an Eminem vs. 2Pac finals, based on cumulative sales figures alone. Turns out, we weren’t wrong.
Now, to be fair, there were some in the office who thought that on the left side of the bracket Jay-Z might somehow turn the tables on last year’s results (in the finals for VIBE Presents THE BEST RAPPER ALIVE, Em easily took down Hov with 69 percent of the vote). Jay’s new single, “D.O.A.” is having a moment after all…. But no, it wasn’t to be as Eminem supporters came out in force, once again voting Marshall past Shawn, this time by an even wider margin: Em collected 75 percent of the vote to Jay’s 25 percent.
As for the other matchup? Well, as much as we love The Notorious B.I.G. here in the office (you already know the Fox Searchlight’s biopic Notorious was based on a VIBE book by the same name), we also know that ’Pac’s popularity transcends regions, generations, styles, and, at times, even rap itself. (Not to mention that Pac’s moved 20 million–plus albums to Biggie’s 16 million–plus, not an insignificant margin.) Still, we certainly expected ’Pac’s margin of victory to be significantly slimmer than the nearly two votes he collected for every one of Big’s.
In the end, ’Pac took the round with 63 percent of the vote to Big’s 37 percent, setting up a Eminem vs. ’Pac finals that’s truthfully too close to call. Here in the office, we’re thinking Em’s Web support is so strong (and by now so proven), that we’re thinking Marshall just might have a shot at unifying the belts. But then it’s ’Pac, and, well, it’s ’Pac! Fortunately it’s not up to us, it’s up to you. The polls are only open this week so go here early and often* and cast your vote for who you think should be crowned THE BEST RAPPER EVER! (*Voting is limited to one vote, per user, per 24 hours.)

Slim was on form on slim shady lp, one of the best albums ever but he started to fall off with each album after and encore was garbage. When i hear tupacs word play in songs like keep ya head up and dear mama it just blows me away. Tupac had the passion and imo is the better rapper.

I dunno about this shit lol. Yeah they are basing on popularity too much. People say Pac is the GOAT only because its what youre supposed to say. I think he was off the chain, one of the greats without a doubt. He was a good writer. But I would NEVER say Pac was the greatest RAPPER. Lyrically, Em strings his words together way better then Pac. But Pac was able to make songs with more substance then almost any big time rapper ever. Wierd, but if I had to chose...id say Em is the better rapper, Pac makes better songs. But neither one of em would be the all time greatest rapper IMO.

Like substance, emotion, and making classic songs with longevity. Pac couldn't rhyme as well as Em true, but he was still way above average in that category. And as far as I can see he beats him in every other category besides rhyming multis. I don't know if I'd call Pac the greatest rapper, but he's ahead of Em in my book.

Yeah I know what u mean. Ive just always felt Pac had a lot of substance in his music, but I never was overlly impressed with him lyrically. Being from Cali, it was just natural for me to like Pac. When Holla If You Hear Me came out, i was a huge Pac fan. But on some real shit, when he died he wasnt even one of my top 5 favorite rappers anymore. Of course, when he died, everybody started kissin his ass like no other but I couldnt get with that fake shit. If he wasnt one of my top rappers alive, then he wasnt after death either yah know?
