quite an accomplishment, we just have to hope he's clean.
shame he is already 30, he might have had a chance at some records; fuckin' Jim Thome. :P
-
Gonna hit an ungodly 800 SOs soon too. :-X

^that's something i can live with as a coach, even though it's tough.
you can't say he hurts the team too much because they won the WS last year. :P

I wonder what the breaking point is with these strike out guys nowadays. Would he still be playing if he only hit 30 HRs a year and struck out 200 times? It seems to be more acceptable to put up ridiculous strike out numbers nowadays.
The old record for strike outs in a season was 189 by Bobby Bonds in 1970 and since 2004 that's been topped 6 times and there will be a few more this year. Reynolds, Howard, Dunn, Pena and Davis all have over 100 Ks so far and Upton has 99 in 81 games.

well Howard & Pena are the guys who hit the long ball, that's almost their job on the team.
but i would think if Howard wanted to bat .290 & strike out a lot less, i'm sure he could; but he just puts everything he's got into every swing.
but if he swung with 2 strikes as a defensive hitter, he would only hit around 30 HR's a season.
so i am sure Phillies coaching is telling him, don't worry about striking out; just make sure you hit 45 HR's for us lol.

Wait, what does Jim Thome have to do with this?

Wait, what does Jim Thome have to do with this?
LOL, i just remember a few years back Ryan Howard got his first starts when Thome was injured or some shit & they said he was going to be great.
if Jim was never their then Howard might have gotten a chance to start at the age of 21 & maybe be at his 500th right now.
*it's a joke though lol, he got their in '03, i believe; someone was their before him*

he's now a rich mans Adam Dunn....2005/06 was awhile ago
