'outta control remix' - insane bassline and crisp drums but with a chilled piano groove and funky guitar on the hook. best beat dre has made this decade, the pinnacle of his gangsta-funk based sound. pure genius.
'shit popped off' - chilled funk groove, grown up sounding, tons of energy and a timeless feel. superb sampling.
'get up' - more dark sounding of these tracks. stomping rhythm with slamming drums, very advanced mix with tons of energy. could maybe do with another instrument or two like on the live version. very likely a beat intended for an earlier version of bishop's reformation lp.
imagine - drums dont fit the other tracks, but an epic beat, true timeless shit. crazy clear mix again.
;D

Murder Dem Murderers
-
i agree with outta control remix, that beat is insane!!!
-
yeah this right here is one of the dopest traxx of all time
Murder Dem Murderers
Amazes me it has not ended up on anything but a scraped Snoop/Kam collabo and Kam just doing a solo track to it.
-
i mean kam destroyed that shit to pieces, perfect for kam, and snoop....well its good he didnt get it cuz he wouldnt have been able to rap over it IMO
but damn this work of art right here is one of dres and kams best of all time

I always wanted to hear the original with Snoop on it as well.
-
get low by Stat Quo was nice (Instrumentally). 8)
Murder Dem Murderers
that track is HOT, pisses me off it hasn't gotten the recognition it deserves. there should be wide-spread reception from this track. but I guess shit like Soulja Boy has a better finger on the pulse of hip-hop these days. ::)
the OG with Snoop would've been great to hear, but after knowing what Kam threw down on it, it's gonna be pretty hard seeing it in a different light w/ Snoop.
-
this right here is mad dope too
Bishop Lamont - Hallelujah (Feat. Xzibit)

this right here is mad dope too
Bishop Lamont - Hallelujah (Feat. Xzibit)
X can master a hook w/ no problems, Bishop with his wit & deep messages never ceases to amaze me.
I hope we see The Reformation before Detox, cuz we all know shit's never coming out.
-
"Get You Some" was banging, actually all the shit he gave Busta was crazy. "Start From Scratch" is another one.

I don't really like Get Up to be honest, but I think on every other tracks you're right. I tought I was the only person to feel that Outta Control rmx is on another level.
I gotta say I didn't really like Shit Popped Off at first, 'cause it's not your typical Dre beat, but damn this is good music.

nah its more for comedy effect
'murder dem murderers' seems to be popular, but i don't understand how its quite that great. granted, the tone is extremely dramatic and dark, but sonically, its not really that exciting.
i just hope dre still finishes and improves 'shit popped off' for the final lp. would be an epic single and a waste of a great song otherwise. slower is better 8)

Outta Control Remix, Get You Some, Imagine, Stay Wide Awake, Beach Chair are the only beats which i would want on Detox
I thought Shit Popped Off was :-\ and well officially Get Ups a Scott Storch beat i thought? either way its a real boring beat imo
-
Bagpipes from Baghdad
-
My perfect detox beats would be!
1. 'lost ones'
2. 'Outta control remix'
3. 'Cocaina'
4. 'Imagine'
5. 'Stay Wide Awake'
6. 'Round Here'
7. 'Déjà Vu'
8. 'Shit popped off'
9. 'Grow up'
10. 'Minority report'
-
"get up" is produced by scott storch
"how we do" is detox worthy
-

but Beach Chair was produced by Chris Martin not Dr. Dre...
-
'get up' was mixed by dr. dre and sounds a LOT clearer and crisper than any of scott's solo beats. doesn't sound remotely like one of scott's own productions, no coincidence there.
i doubt he had much to do with the final sound of the track except the main melody. dre blatantly did all the drums and garnishes and was very generous with the credit on that one.
-
"how we do" is detox worthy
It would've sucked if that song were on detox. That's 50's type of song not Dre
-
I guess I'm the only 1 who wasn't all that impressed by the Outta Control Remix. That beat gets kinda boring after a while. And Murder Them Murderers was wack and so was Imagine. Alot of Dre's shit has been average. The only tracks I think/know that were Detox worthy was "It Could've Been You", "Round Here" w/ better mixing, "Minority Report" (even tho it's missing a few extra chords/instruments), "Beach Chair", "Runnin", "Shit Popped Off" and maybe a few beats off Relapse. I gotta keep it 100.
-
Actually Murder Dem Murderers sounded PERFECT for Snoop's original concept for Malice In Wonderland with the darker composer like production but you can throw that out the window now.
-
'get up' - more dark sounding of these tracks. stomping rhythm with slamming drums, very advanced mix with tons of energy. could maybe do with another instrument or two like on the live version. very likely a beat intended for an earlier version of bishop's reformation lp.
that was a scott storch beat
-
he obviously did the melody but sonically, it doesn't sound anything like a storch beat. its also 'mixed' by dre.
-
I like alot of Dre's shit the last decade. To me the beat on Westside story is probably my favorite. Its like a new age Jaws theme. The dark piano keys over the light keys in the background with a drum beat backing the power of a Mike Tyson punch from '88
-
i heard that detox EP with all th referance songs back to back and it sounds like it was shaping up to be a dope album.
that one song with TI and kobe doing nate doggs part was real dope...i for got what it was called.
"I welcome yall to the detox..."
-
i don't think that was kobe doing nate dogg's part, i think it was kobe doing kobe's part. it seems doubtful that there will be any 'new' nate dogg for detox :'(
-
i think ti even references nate dogg on the track...i might be mistaken but that part sounds like it was written for nate...im saying maybe this was before things took a turn for the worse..
Im not familiar enough with kobes sound to know if thats his usual tone.
-
he references nate dogg? i'll have to listen again, was my least favourite out of the 'detox' leaks. sounded like a very standard khalil kinda track.
-
i thought that was the highlight of the ep.
-
Underground :o (Best Beat Dre's made in years...EPIC, next level sound)
Bagpipes from bahgdad 8)
3AM
Lost One
Don't Get Carried Away
How we Do
Shit Popped Off
Everything else released I've heard has been meh/sounded like 2001 leftovers...
-
Ya'll sleepin' on Higher and It Could've Been You...
-
Outta Control Remix of course..
and Westside Story is fuckin amazing too! I would love to see Hittman, Xzibit or somebody like them just do bars on that track.. It should be on detox with somebody rippin it from beginnin to end without a hook.. it is that type of beat..
and Bagpipes From Baghdad is detox material.. amazing.. and EM didnt do it justice..
Now what else.. Hmm.. Get You Some obviously.. bangin shit..
How We Do & Higher too..
-

where are Round Here and Runnin from?
-
'round here' is snoops off the BCT...really mean beat but a good sub is essential. didn't really rumble in my home system but was insane in the car. i assume 'runnin' is the hi-tek joint off the documentary.
-
Higher
How We Do
Start From Scratch
Get Me Some
Imagine
Lost Ones
Beach Chair
Same Song and Dance
Crack a Bottle (hate the song, esp. chorus, but the beat is nice)
To me, all of the above would be good for Detox as far as production goes.
Peeps have built this shit up way too much. 2001 is one of my favourite albums ever, but not every beat on there was classic or next level shit.
Next Episode, What's the Difference, and definitely STILL DRE (got chills when I first heard that shit). Other than that, the beats ranged from decent (Murder Inc, Light Speed, Ackrite) to great (Forgot about Dre, Fuck You) but most of the album was NOT on some next level shit. THe album was sequenced very nicely and the songs were great songs aside from a few.
What Dre really needs is THREE AMAZING beats/songs. The rest will fall into place.....it remains to be seen if he still has a StILL DRE in him though..

Round here is just a resample of Stan. It would suck if that were on Detox, due to the fact that he's already used it. It'd be like him reusing a beat off of 2001.

AM I THE ONLY ONE ON THIS PLANET WHO THINKS HIGHER SUCKS?

higher was dope and one of games best selections but it got borin
higher>>>in da club

Detox is gonna have a different sound to it anyways. Probably typical Dre formula (pianos, horns, saw synths, etc.) with a new twist to it. He'll probably just end up hooking up with Khalil mostly, maybe QDT/Terrace Martin, and a few joint collabs with a couple of big named producers (maybe). It'll be all played out by a live band and it'll be more "poetry" in the bars (from an artist point of view) or just plain ol' shit talkin (again). Detox is gonna be hot with a fresh sound to it. Will it be ground breaking? probably not, but it's Dr. Dre so who knows. Detox will be Dr. Dre's Blueprint III I know.

LMAO....when have you ever heard Dre spit poetry?
-

not in a sense that dre's on some "im a sparrow with golden wings" shit. but more like different song structures here n there. aka not typical for Dre to do on albums (even tho he only has two)
-
I dont think any of the beats on eminems album was detox material...i think he made those beats from a minimalist standpoint as not to take away from whatever slim was doing lyrically.
i will say that crack a bottle was a classic ass beat...that song got alot of hate for fifs presence and slims sing song hook but i heard that beat on the beats by dre headphones and that shit sounded like a whole different song to me then what it sounds like on computer speakers...the strings and the horns that beat is almost perfection to me.
in closing id like to say that radiotube is a groupie ass faggot.
that is all
-
lol

Westside Story
How We Do
Imagine

"drop it" anybody ?
-
no disrespect to anyone, especially Matty, but this topic is exactly why a Detox release wouldn't be that exciting to me

Dre didn't make stan.
besides, Round here is a different song so it's cool.
also, i didn't know that there was an unwritten rule in hiphop, that says you can only use a sample once ???
