I hope i am wrong, but damn, it doesn't seem like Paid Da cost is gonna be fucking with the LAst mEal. Ya, Snoops flow is tight once again, but it was off the hook on the Last Meal also (do people forget Hennesey and Buddha or what?).......
WHY IT WAS SO DAMN GOOD
Dre laced three NICE tracks, and mixed nine. Meech Wells and Jelly Roll laced some nice tracks too. Scott Storch also came through in a big way.
-the dope cover and comic ;)
-the intro
-snoop got pretty deep on some songs (ya'll gon miss me)
-it was actually westcoast! (i'd take dre's repetitive beats over the neptunes repetitive beats any day, although Snoops single is dope)
HOW IT COULDA BEEN CLASSIC
If a couple songs would've been cut (I Cant Swin, Brake Fluid, Game Court skit, and Back up off me), it had a lot more potential.
Next, release the right singles. (Hen and Bud, LAy Low, READY TO RIDE), if those were the three singles, LAst mEal woulda been way more successful as Ready to Ride woulda been a huge club joint.
Last, a little less kokane. Yes, Kokane is dope, but we don't singing on every song, let alone singing by kokane on every song! Take him off HEN AND BUDD, and you gotta major hit right there. Kokane was nice on the album,, but overkill comes to mind.
I hope Paid Da Cost can be better, but all in all i really doubt it. Despite the negatives, Snoop for the most part put together a really nice album. Hope he can do it again......
-
LMAO....the last meal is so far off from classic...its actually garbage...it kokane did a lot to ruin it...as for paid da cost....i dont expect much from it ...atleast kokane isnt on half the album
-
yea there was too much kokane on Last Meal, but i really really liked him on Hen & Budda....I thought he came off very tight......but oh well...we should wait till Paid the Cost is in stores,I mean we cant judge it by 6 or 7 tracks we've heard
-
Damn, I agree about you on the last meal being a classic. When I mean classic, not in terms of defining hip-hop, or changing the game, but a cult classic.
I was thinking of the exact same thing, taking off those tracks you mentioned, which will make the the album shoter. I personally find it difficult to listen to an album longer than an hour. Sure, snoop gives value for money by giving those extra tracks, but I just skip over them anyway (he should have released them as b-sides, or put the left-overs on a bons disc or EP).
I have to disagree with you about kokane though. Many people think he is on it too much, the chronic dre's album which ended up as a snoop & dre album. I know it's a little different, because snoop was what made that album, but I thought kokane was pretty tight, especially on hennessy & buddah. The only track I didn't like with him on there were brake fluid, because it was too long and the beat was amaturish. However, kokane did ruin bring it on, but I still for some reason sing the hook.
So, kokane is on 8 tracks:
hen & bud - he's dope
true lies - dope
Wrong idead - I didn't really see a point of him being on there since he only sang a little at the end, but does the job
go away - was dope until he got a bit excited after snoop finished talking at the end in that echoed effect.
Stacey Adams - Nice, nothing spectacular, does the job.
Bring it on - I didn't really like him on this, could have left the hook out altogether and just have had straight rapping back and forth.
Brake fluid - dope, but the beat is crap, and too long, so I skip this.
y'all gone miss me - damn, he pulled off a classic performance, and made the track want it is.
There is the potential to make it a classic, if:
1 shortened the intro a bit,
2 come off harder (vocally) on snoop dogg, but change the drum beat to the same one used on every single day (original), but still use the same samples on as on snoop dogg. Take off the part: s-n-double-o-p...., or have that in a different style (maybe scratching).
3 Cut down wrong idea a bit, and have someone else do 'I'mma gangsta' instead of snoop.
4 Cut off the instrumental at the end on go away when snoop finishes talking 'take your mide on another dimension you never thought existed' because that track was too long
5 Set it off was WACK IMO. It could be saved however, by changing the beat to something harder like some la n***a's on dre's 2001. Only have ice cube doing his part once but much calmer, ake off snoop's last verse and also nates part which didn't fit in.
6 cut stacey adamsby 1 min, it was too long,
7 take off kokane completey on bring it on, maybe replace suga free with soopafly doing the same lyrics
8 take off the skit & brake fluid
9 cut off 1 min at the end of ready to ryde which was too long
trim a bit off loosen control, which was slightly too long imo,
10 take off I can't swim, but it could be saved if snoopy collins and sir dogg was taken off, and replace that annoying sample with something similar to that used in mobb deep's quite storm bass line.
11 take off leave me alone, it wasn't wack or anything, but can be left off
12 definitely take off back up off me
Now you wouldn't have any tracks to skip, the album will be much shorter than the orininal 80 min so you can listen to it the whole way through in one go. These are just my opinions, peace.
I won't make any judgements about paid the cost.. until I've heard the retail album a few times.

PS
Why is everyone hating on jelly roll. I think he's a dope producer with his electro-funk sound.
I also happy that the last meal wasn't a dre 2001 rip off, which everyone seems to imitate.
Another question, did dre rip of the beat for family affair from snoops go away? I know dre mixed it, but they both sound very similar.
Can you please explain why the album is good or bad with reasons, not just on tha last meal, but in general whenever someone makes a post. Thanx
-
it could be much doper, but no classic, i mean not in the way doggystyle, dogg food are classics... he should have taken off those bad songs ya`ll mentioned and put Purple, Back up Ho and Backtrackin on there, those 3 songs are tighter than anything on there (only Lay Low is better) , why are there so much stupid decisions made in the music industry? I mean Snoops new single choice?, it`s ok, but if he dropped "That`s the shit" it would be much bigger or that other Neptunes track (you can hear a bit in the background in Da Chuuch Video) already sound much better.
-
IMO Tha Last Meal was nowhere near classic. I was expecting it to be one too. I'm not expecting the same for "Paid Da Cost"
-
There re rumours floating on the net that beautiful (the neptunes track in the background of the chuuuch to tha palace vidieo) will be the second single, but like i said it's a rumour.
PS, from the chuuuch to tha palace has has mixed reviews on this board, but I think it's a straight hip hop track, there is some rawness in it which is missing from the commercial hip hop scene, especially in the charts (ie Ja Rule's singles, which sound identical, with an R&B beat & hook).
-
we all know that doin a long ass album reduce your chance to do a classic but it also reduce some hackers to burn the cd
-
dont if its just me but this album will be more soft ..I wanted sum Hardcore shit with songs with message but this album will about ,Party, pimpin, and relationship
-
kokane made the album titer 4 me i thought he brought sum flavor with his funk and all that but he made the album better 2 me thats IMO
-
we all know that doin a long ass album reduce your chance to do a classic but it also reduce some hackers to burn the cd
yeah, those hackers certainly burn a incredibly amount of CD's.. ::)
-
Yeah The Last Meal Was Week i miss doggystyle the shit was criminal
-
yeah last meal was no where near classic for me, and Paid the cost isn't looking anywhere near classic. Fucking snoop, when is he gonna make another album for the real fans who been supporting him since the begining.

Never...
Some people are still livin in the past The Dogg changed his style and left the past behind ...Snoop wont talk about Gangbang ,Smoking weed , Killin Peeps anymore so try to live with it . Real fans support the artist no matter what happen ,they dont stick on his fiirst record (wich iz History) and keep askin fo him to drop the same shit (wich iz impossible)
If u Look at Doggystyle : he was angry he had sumthin to prove and he was a Gangsta that drop sumthin that nobody did b4 (talkin bout fuckin a Bitch ,or Killin peeps with a laid back smooth voice)
Tha DoggFather :Same vibe as Doggystyle (just no Dre) people said this album suck because of alot of bullshit .But they didnt realize the fact that Nobody was on Snoop Dick because 2pac was all over the place..his death effected alot of shit also Makaveli was out the same year.
Da Game : They say this album was Trash but for me its a great album because I took it a different way for me it was the soundtrack of his "Game Of Life" movie and there is alot of guess appearance ( by no limit) I dont know why sum were hatin the lirics were dope the only problem was that the beat didnt match with his voice
Top Dogg : Great Record the only thing that fuck the album is the first single great beat by Dj Quik, Ant Banks,Dr.Dre,Jelly Roll,Goldie Loc...what tha fuck y'all hatin for :o
Tha Last Meal : Great Record great production by Dre, Jelly Roll,Timbo...Why Y'all hatin ,,because Mr.Kane was all over the place :o In fact Kokane voice was perfect on the album so why y'all hatin 4.. lyrics are still tight but kinda boring (the beat save the album)
So for those that still livin in the past and still want another Doggystyle wake up because it wont happen because it seems that he wont talk about Gangster shit on his new album it will show his deep side and show that he grew up
-
^^^^^ I do not agree at all. Just listen to these songs that snoop was part of that are off the hizzle, yet he doesn't come with that caliber very often on his own album
on the blvd
the wash
fuck what they say
so hard
in da game f/ heavy hittaz
family reunion
boss up
hey you
catastrophic
No backtrackin
Purple
Nightmares
21'st street
It''s the DOG
Mission Cleopatra
Pimp On
Welcome to ATL the remix
yet on his album he comes with many songs that he does not come as tight as he does on all the above mentioned songs. If he had an album with all those songs I listed it would be a very good album.
-
this has nutin to do wit changing style so snoop dickriders dont give me this bull shit about how snoop changed his style. I listen to a new snoop track it sounds like 80% of tha time he could care less he jus went in tha studio 2 make some quick ends. u listen to anything pre 96 an everything he did sounded great. he could of rapped abou makin a tunafish sandwich an it would of been dope. now u could hear in his voice he dont give a fuck. that has nutin to do wit changin up your style, that has 2 do wit not givin a fuck anymore
-
I'd like to "see" bad azz and tha eastsidaz on 'Paid the cost...'
-
I agree Tha Last Meal was nearly classic. I love the production, Snoop's flow, and Kokane's hooks (so what if he's on half of the tracks, they're all dope). I would cut the Game Court skit and Back up off me and Leave me Alone. Damn, why does everyone hate on Brake Fluid?? That song is tight!
-

thats real talk!! i dont know why back up hoe, purple and backtrackin were left off the album.. .cuz those songs were banging!!!
and that first single just isnt catchy enough.. its going to go straight over everyones head.. i think a remix should have been done for that song cause it sounds like a filler song.
-
Man, Brake Fluid mighta been the tightest song on that album! I can't believe you didn't like it, LOL. That stuff was hilarious. Snoop can friekin' FLOW yall. My favorite part was in the first couple verses he says "As I lean with my hand on my balls, I had to ... " and then on the last verse he reverses it around a little bit, I thought the whole song was dope.
-
Compare the 3 singles from Last meal with the 3 from Paid the cost...
"Snoop dogg" (prod.by timbaland) is better than "From the chuuch to the palace" (prod.by neptunes).
The 2nd single from PTCTBTB will (probably) be "Beautiful" feat.charlie wilson prod.by the neptunes.....i haven't heard this song but im pretty sure "Lay low" is better than this one (see=dre behind the boards).
"Loosen control" is a garbage song to me,wack single...the 3rd single from paid the cost... will probably be "Ballin",better than the last single from Last meal.
-
Last Meal cudda been a classic? Please Dawg, don't bullshit yourself. Last Meal was wack, definetly NOT a classic. The only Snoop album which you can call classic is "Doggystyle".
I don't even look out for Snoop anymore. Doggystyle's one of my favorite albums EVER, but nothing Snoop's put out after that even compares.
