I thought this is how Slaughterhouses the one should've been subject wise but whatever Banks killed it.  He shines so much better when he touches the personal tip.  Tracks like this and Shine Thru show me why he's far beyond most others.

I have this problem where for certain tracks by certain artist I got to type out the lyrics.  Sear it's almost an addiction,
Quote

that bullshit is what I'm stuck on
it's like my luck is gone
the whole neighborhood done wrong
different voice, same song
niggas can't stay calm
the heat ain't on so he ain't
what the the regular MC ain't showing
is the hostility growing
niggas died just so niggas can know them
murdered by no one
never had a baby, now it's too late to grow one
and I'm going crazy
got the brick got the
I'm lyrically Osama
it's too close to show time
get on my old grind
get out my face shorty, i like the old kind
she don't need nothing from me, she got her own mind
you don't see banks you see a gold mine
and the media estate that's why I four-four mine
i'm g-4 flying, these niggas all lying
See this New York giant, i don't walk quiet

i can't slow down, I got to keep on
Got to be quick, got to be strong, got to get paid and got to be long.
Property owned, got to keep chrome.  It's a cold world, I got to keep warm.
I ain't never been a psychic I just called it how I' see it.
The best kept secret, the nigga that niggas id with.
I'm the one and ya'll already know where the fuck I'm from.

Got major, favorite and got major
I made a sky scraper for them able to find paper
lay on 5 acre
you out your mine ain't ya?
you want to shine, don't ya?
well that time is over
It's a new year
i'm back in my crew, yeah
oh yeah, one more song and i'm coming through there
I don't care who cares
there's nothing you could really do here
sit your ass down and get some cool air
how you going to call out the grizzly and you pooh bear?
moving all reckless, doing all them records
shit its' like putting the puppy on a pitt, like a gorilla on a money, or a punch on the clips
my bank is fatter dawg, i fly prada bring
no battery, never had chord
nigga we both can meet the lord, it doesn't matter so
I left a mark, ch-check out my cataloge

i can't slow down, I got to keep on
Got to be quick, got to be strong, got to get paid and got to be long.
Property owned, got to keep chrome.  It's a cold world, I got to keep warm.
I ain't never been a psychic I just called it how I' see it.
The best kept secret, the nigga that niggas id with.
I'm the one and ya'll already know where the fuck I'm from.

I'm still rolling, chrome on perilly cruisers
steady proving that nobody can move him
i dress like a hoodlum, drink and smoke bhudda
I'm so cooler,  give me that ho, I'll school her
I'm a hula trying to duck the hip-hop cops
niggas getting out of line and that's where hip-hop stops
you know these  ain't rapper with hip-hop props
I hope you walk out the crip and get hit by shots
i played hip-hop spots, you got to travel over seas to see
Check out my armor, I'm built like a G MC
Word to my mamma, you can get a bleeding t
who you know better with the words than a kilo of me?
I'm the industry's muscle, the cold heart
i don't bend or buckle, i bogart
all I know is the street where the fuck am i going to go, God?
try to lock a real nigga out, i got the crow bar
life's so hard you hardly make it out
out comes the haters and it's my jobs to make them bow
they say all we rap about is money and fucking
so give me my fucking money and hate me or love me

Didn't like the second Buck album, same with Banks. Both had great songs on them but their first albums shit on them.

you know 50 basically made him rush out Rotten Apple, so we definatly didn't hear Banks in prime form since his first album, which was amazing to me.

after hearing everything he's made after Officer Down, i can only say i am more than willing to give him a second chance on his third LP. ;)

Rotten Apple was still dope to me.  All the singles were dope and it had plenty of sleepers on it...but I do agree it was rushed effort due to the leak and label demands.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it was better than Hunger For More but it definitely had some heaters on it. "Make A Move" was straight fire, for those that havent heard it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSWnI6Kvz4g

There were probably actually only about 4 songs I didn't like on the album, rest was heat...

Rotten Apple had too much of a mixtape feel to it for me.

he killed some tracks, but it didn't sound like an album; the best songs on Hunger For More were better than the best off Rotten Apple.

Cake was a dope track! One of my fav Lloyd Banks tracks, the beat was vintage gunit. Shame they tried to make another Fire with Hands Up though. And i agree it was very mixtapish in sound and it was rushed cause Banks had the original stolen lol

I'm not sure why but I really enjoy Iceman.  I'm not usually big on those type of tracks but there's something about that one

lol@banks being beyond most other rappers out there  ;D

Dudes so average, USUALLY spits nothing and both his albums are terrible. His first had its moments, but overall the cat wasnt saying shit and his second was simply wack.

He aint nothing but a feature rapper. Stick to dropping 16's once in a while, makes u look abit better. Dude got outshone on beg for mercy by buck and failed TWICE in two attempts on his albums. Average at best.

i think he means that Banks doesn't have a real message going on in any song; which is the same case for 95% of rappers lmao.

Post by: virtuoso on July 29, 2009, 01:20:05 PM
He means there is no story or concept, the tracks themselves are less verses and more just a collection of punchlines which don't lead anywhere. However I kind of disagree, as I thought his first album proved that he wasn't a one trick pony. What I do notice about Banks though, is unless the beat is a standout, or has a heavy sound to it, his voice becomes really grating.

^that's what i tried saying, but you worded it much better lol.

his first album was amazing though lol, look at the last four songs.

When The Chips Are Down
'Til The End
Die One Day
South Side Story

4 dope ass songs, with some substance too lol.

Yeah Banks gets boring quick. Punchline after punchline, same shit with Fab and Wayne. These type of rappers have a short expiration date, I'd take a storyteller over them any day. That's why I loved Ultimate Victory, it had best of both worlds.

yeah, these are the best four songs Banks has ever made, not bar for bar; but as full, complete songs.

I understand what you're saying about his songs not being tied to a strict concept but I only take that into consideration when it's for an official album.  His mixtapes are exactly as you said, usually bars after bars tied loosely together by a concept.

Sometime they excel like Shine Thru and Best Kept Secret other times they fall flat.

I don't agree that he's not saying anything.  He is.  Maybe it's not what you desire him to spit but he's still spitting about something.  I don't look for Banks to spit about America or politics or any social issue.  Him and G-Unit never presented themselves as those type of artists.  They've always been more strictly club/street music, sometimes revealing the personal tip but for the most part they've stuck to their guns (what they claim to be) extremely well despite all the naysayers.

I don't listen to him all the time but I don't listen to Budden all day or Saign or Ortiz or Eminem.  It depends on my mood.  Sometimes I want an intricate story, sometimes I just want to hear Banks spitting hot bars with nice flow, decent beat, and conviction.

Well banks isn't signed to anyone right now.But he's loyal to 50.So they are waiting until 50 cent drops his album and see what happens with who he signs to because that will be the same label banks will sign to.So I don't expect a banks album for two years to be honest.I'd love to see banks just leave 50s umbrella and become his own artist but it won't happen.

That'd be ill, I reckon Banks would take Joey on the punchline/flow tip, Buddens got him covered with subject matter though

unless he inspired Banks to rap about a certain topic & get deep about it; then Banks might spit some ILL shit.
