Over the last 3-4 years Ive heard very few albums that delivered its always that the production is iffy or the features are pretty weak or the length of the album is short. If i had to put my money on a westcoast artist it would either be snoop or kurupt even though snoop hasn't made anything good in a while. The producer that i know would make an impact but haven't in some time i would put my money on Fredwreck Battlecat and Dr Dre just from there previous hits.

rap music has been dead...its gone. Be happy you were fortunate enough to get that golden era of the 90's. Hundreds of great album came out then. I don't even check out new albums from my favorite artists anymore. I'm happy with all the old music I have. Much of it is timeless.

i take it you havent heard "witness tha realest" my friend . GREAT production , GOOD features , GREAT length [no skits , 17 songs str8 up] , and GOOD lyrics . i consider it a westcoast classic . go to youtube and type "witness tha realest" and you can listen to every song off the album then you'll see what i mean .

I'm 29. Been listening to westcoast rap for 15-16 years. No, the old stuff doesn't get old. I'd rather listen to an album like Operation Stakola that I have heard well over 250 times, before I can even finish 1 listen of a new album.

exactly and that is what's selling right now so people should not expect a dope album with none of that to sell at this point. It is almost like people are afraid to get behind a dope album people either have not heard or is different from the slop played on the radio.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the genre opening up. People always resist change but it doesn't mean it's negative. What's really wrong with wearing skinny jeans? I'm sticking to my argument that the radio is poorly presenting hip-hop to the masses. It creates a vicious cycle that pressures artists to be a certain image that's easier to market while limiting the average listener to hearing material. Hip-hop is old enough to have an oldies hour like rock has. It's diverse enough to have a west coast hour and an east coast hour. Radio is on some dumb shit.

I was trying to make a point of I don't listen to what is on the radio. I listen to shit like scarface, nas, outkast, biggie, jay z, wu tang, redman, styles P, gangstar...I just don't want to list everything I listen to.

The point was that in the 90's I listened to EVERYBODY on the westcoast, and they all made good music. You guys continue to say to listen to this new stuff. I have done it, and I don't like it.

I don't need a decade to decide if an album is classic or not. I know what I like, and if I'm blown away and claim it is a classic then it will be in my collection and listened to over the years. I can't listen to an album hundreds of times over a decade because I listen to so much more new shit thats being released everyday. Plus I have mixes on my ipod so the entire CD doesnt really get much play sometimes, unless i'm in the mood for that cd.

Music is always changing. When music started it was raw beats and lyrics, then the rap mixed with rock and roll, and g-funk sound came, then it was rnb sounding rap(which is still happening now, now its autotune(i know cats like roger troutman did it, but he was like the only one) which a lot of people are doing. who knows whats next. the only way we are going to get that old hip hop back is if people(all people) start rejecting the radio, and ask for that good shit again, or artist start saying fuck making big money and the majors, im happy with little money and the art form.(HOW MUCH OF THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN), or the major labels and the radio are going to say we want to do and play want our artist want us to do or play. There are many artist trying to get on, so if artist, even the heavy hitters wont do what the majors feel sells, they will send the artist packing and go to the next one. Majors feel like they can make another eminem or fif or jay or ti, etc. what the older cats listen to or say is hot, most of the young cats are not feelin. these young cats will be older in a few years and there kids will be listening to what ever is poppin at that time and they will complaining just like we are. We may never get back to what you were feelin. You are either going to have to deal with the music of today or just say fuck it. Personally i just listen to what i like.

Like I said earlier, it is all about what you are looking for. If you are expecting the days back in the late 90's to early 2000, 2001 of multi platinums albums, you will not get that here on the west or damn near anywhere else unless ya name is Weezy. If you enjoy good, quality material by new artists and established ones, they are still out there. Just because it is not advertised or highly talked about does not mean it does not exist.

no one is debating that music of today is better than music of yesterday; but there is no reason to be caught in the past, when there is great music being put out today.
no reason to overlook it & call it "weak/wack/boring" just because it's not on the same level as Me Against The World lol.

rap music has been dead...its gone. Be happy you were fortunate enough to get that golden era of the 90's. Hundreds of great album came out then. I don't even check out new albums from my favorite artists anymore. I'm happy with all the old music I have. Much of it is timeless.
