Title: Report: Victor Martinez to the BoSox

The New York Post is reporting that the Boston Red Sox have traded for all-star catcher Victor Martinez of the Cleveland Indians.

The Red Sox can use Martinez as a catcher, first baseman and DH. When he plays first, Kevin Youkilis will move to third, spelling Mike Lowell.

In effect, Martinez gives the Red Sox protection against regressions by Lowell, catcher Jason Varitek and designated hitter David Ortiz.

Halladay ain't coming back...Jays aren't getting ANYTHING for their best player because he will sign with a contender since he'll be a free agent in 2010. And the Bosox, Yanks, and Rays will continue dumping all over them now.

He better get fired; he's completely fucked the Jays. Him and Minaya can write a book together on how to fuck over a franchise.

i'd rather have taken him now though & lost him to FA as long as we got a ring this year.

Post by: Javier on July 31, 2009, 05:07:39 PM: Colletti said that they were willing to give up 5 players but Riccardi wanted 6. Or 4 prospects plus a ML ready player. Riccardi should have gone for that 5 player deal, the Dodgers still have a good farm system and no doubt that 2 or maybe even 3 of those will be regulars.

The big question is for Riccardi is are those 5 players worth the compensation pick for losing a Type A free agent next year? Who knows, I really have no idea how the upcoming MLB draft is looking like.
