Title: I Hate It When...
Post by: Twentytwofifty on August 06, 2009, 01:57:06 PM
baseball players slide into firstbase.  It is so stupid and the only time I can see it makes sense is to avoid a tag.  It slows you down getting there and it's more likely you'd get hurt doing that than running through.  It just makes no sense to do so.
I would bench any player that did it.  Just so dumb.

sliding head first on a bang-bang play actually makes you looks safe more times than not.

it's all a visual for the umpire & even if the science behind it says "you slow down".

its worse when fuckers dont hustle down the line.

or when they don't hustle out of the box to begin with.

I don't like it, these umpires are pretty good and they might be fooled a few times but it's probably a better idea just getting there faster and actually being safe.
And it's not really science that tells you it slows you down, more common sense.  It's why you slide into 2nd and 3rd, so you don't overrun the bag and you rest safely on it.  And why you don't see sprinters dive at the finish line on the 100m dash.

because then they would dive under the tape & i think you HAVE to break the tape. :P
