its storyline. and its not your usual sci-fi movie.

Really, the only Sci Fi thing about it is that there are aliens involved and you get to see some of their weapons in action. Beside that, it's just a good story. Also, it is told in a unique blend of different techniques. You have your normal camera angle, the documentary style camera angle form like in the Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield, security camera angles, use of media (news, cable news, stupid headlines), and also mockumentary style. Each form is used brilliantly to advance the story.

I agree that the trailers were pretty lackluster. But in a way, that made it all the more cool, because the trailers really didn't give shit away about the movie. I pretty much went in cold, seeing it. The only thing I knew about the movie was what they showed in the trailers. And like I said, the trailers don't really give anything away.
