Title: The Chronic Relit?
Post by: Escrooge on August 21, 2009, 09:56:26 AM
Seems like most records leak a week or 2 before they get into the stores. With that being said I think it will probably leak sometime next week. Whats your thoughts. Honestly I just wanna hear that Smoking Bud OG in CDQ. If its not going to have any unreleased Dre, then Im waiting on the snoop album!

I will buy so hopefully we get more projects.  Apparently, this will be the first of four projects to come out this year.  But I think it safe to say that there's no guarantee we'll get all four of these projects.  If the sales of the first couple projects are a complete bust, I doubt they'll release anything else.

I'm on the fence about buying this, I may not cop it though. I have The Chronic in tape format and CD twice (original and re-mastered). The unreleased content may not be enough for me.

I have the LP and the original CD release i bought in 93.  Since my copy is scratched to hell from years of playing, i'll cop the relit version.  It's good to have the remastered version, new liner notes, unreleased tracks, bonus DVD, etc.  Plus, it's good to support this new company.  If this sells well, they'll surely release more...plus maybe if Dre sees it sells well, he'll allow them to use his unreleased songs and they can work out a deal.

That's why we have the blogs/rapidshare. I'll take the OGz but I'm not going to pay for a album again. I'm fucking broke, unless my album suddenly goes 2 shit. Fuck it. lol

Buying for sure, the more these albums sell then the better the odds we get an album from Crooked I and other lesser known artists like Eastwood.

what's with people still thinking record sales still count 4 shit? lmao!  kills me everytime.  W.A. pretty much came in to re-distribute D.R.  They'll make all of their money back and a cool profit from it all and call it a day.  Yeah, they got 10000 reels/tracks/whatever, but how much is actually releasable?  But with that said I'm coppin The Lit.  Fuck it, i gotta few dollars to spare and it comes with a rack of new shit and digitally remastered (i pray in HD), so i'm good.  shiiit, real talk, i love DR- i thought i'd have to get 2 heaven 4 this day to come.  im buyin most of this material... dre, snoop, dpg, db, pac, jewell!, michel'le, nate, all of tha old skool shit, the 2nd dynasty i'll just d/l- most of it doesn't sound that hot or im not that interested from wat i can hear.... crook, eastwood, petey... i might cop Left Eye's shit tho and maybe a Petey album, maybe.

lmao at all these cheap ass leeches claiming not to buy it and cop it from links from megaupload etc. Guarantee the same idiots saying that are the same idiots that will complain and whine about how artists like Snoop, 2Pac, Crooked I etc. should have the old OG unreleased albums put out instead of the current wack shyt at the time, and demand they put out the likes of doggystyle cuts, Untouchable and OG 2Pac etc.
Well guess what??? WIDEawake are gonna do that AND in ORIGINAL form. Don't want to support the product and buy it?? Don't, but don't bitch when they shut up shop and sell it on to save themselves from loosing money and sell it onto someone who will remix the shyt out of the material

Complaining about just wanting the unreleased vaults??? They've already put out FREE vault tracks and promised more FREE vault tracks in the very near future, and are you forgetting about the FREE 3 track sampler as well few months back??

Too many freeloaders expecting hand outs... I've bought the OG Chronic Cassette, CD, and the remastered one too. I will cop this.. Why?? Because apart from the fact it comes with 7 bonus tracks, a half hour Death Row interview and footage - it also comes with videos, new inner art, and creates the opportunity for an unreleased Snoop Dogg collection, with the possibility of tracks such as "Keep It Real Doggy Dogg", "Head Doctor (Alt)", & "The Root Of Evil" (produced by Dr Dre) <<< Don't want any of those tracks?? Then just download relit, and shut the fk up

That's around 50% of this thread alone now lol.

People seem to forget quality and values in music. The youngsters expect everything for free now.. Perhaps it's due to the constant free mixtapes, and tracks put out in current times, but people need to realise that around half of that 70% unreleased is of high quality and is worth money. Snoop owns the biggest amount of unreleased, next to 2Pac, then the likes of Dogg Pound, Danny Boy, Tha Realest, so (with exception of Tha Realest) there's a big incentive to want the relit to succeed, and at least hit 6 figures in sales

People can say all sorts. But it's the industry, not the artists. Snoop managed to help out people like Bad Azz, Doggy's angels to name a few, then there's Dr Dre - a contentious figure when discussing in assisting the West Coast, but he's more than helped people like Mike Elizondo, Bishop Lamont, and lets not forget the massive effort with The Game - who still reps West to the fullest. Then there's Ice Cube who has stated that there will be some form of young West Coast talent in his upcoming movie... Whether than be actor or musician remains to be seen, but the seniors still do their thing, and do what they do to remain top business men. A lot of the reaching out and requests come from a lot of frustration, but it's the industry that's to blame.... The main people West Coast EG: Snoop, Dre, Cube, they've put in a lot of hard effort, and endured some forms of shyt that many don't - loosing their labels that generate multi millions, loosing family members, trials for murder etc. during their early mainstream success, and reach out while they're in that young commercial success, but they grow up, mature, and become more responsible with age, and then deserve the break to chill, and to do the fun musical acting movie shyt, and lay back and enjoy life after all that

Bottom line, the industry, and it's wide-range majority of consumers need to change - not the artists

LOOK ONCE AGAIN I CAN SEE WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM,I MYSELF AM A WRITER AMONGST OTHER THINGS,BUT WHERE DOES IT GO FROM HERE,I MEAN YEAH ALOT HAS BEEN DONE BY EACH AND EVERY SINGLE PERSON YOU NAMED RIGHT NOW.

IM SIMPLY POINTING OUT THAT WE DONT KEEP UP ON OUR OWN YOUNG GENERATION BY TEACHING AND KEEPING IT WEST THEN WE MIGHT AS WELL BECOME LIKE TEXAS DOWN SOUTH OR ANY OTHER FUCKEN STATE THAT STUCK IN THE 80'S LIKE ALL THE OTHER SHIT THEY BITE FROM THE WEST,WE HAVE THIS IN OUR POCKETS BUT GET OUT THERE AND REALIZE THAT WE NEED JUST A LIL MORE DONE TO SCRAPE OFF THE ROUGH EDGES.
WIDE RANGE OF ENT,OR ANYTHING POSITIVE IS A GOOD THING,BUT TO BE PUT IN A POSITION OF THAT KIND OF REACTIONS AND POWER,THEN LETS WORK TOGETHER.

Maybe.  But they did spend $18 Million on purchasing the Death Row catalog.  And I'm sure they've spent considerably more on promotion and having discs pressed up.  I don't know that they have to "knock one out of the park," so to speak, in order for the company to stay afloat.  But on the other hand, I don't know that they could afford to totally "lose their ass" on these releases either.  The bottom line is, if the company goes under, there probably won't be any more tracks.  But I'm not trying to sound like I'm better than anyone else.  I've downloaded music before too.  I just hope that if people have a few extra dollars to spare, they consider picking these releases up.

It's sensible to think that way, because us as fans hold their fate, as with anything in the music indsutry. No one spends $18 million hoping to sell a few hundred copies of each release

I think it's really just a marketing strategy to try to get the Death Row fans to buy multiple copies of this release.  I don't think they realistically think that they'll sell a lot of copies to kids who aren't allowed to hear the bad words.  I think their thinking is that some of the real hardcore Death Row Records fans, knowing that there are a couple unreleased tracks that are exclusive to the clean version, will buy that version of the album too, just to get the extra songs.  I agree though, that I don't think that's really a very smart strategy.  I wish they would have just included the unreleased tracks exclusive to the clean version on the explicit version as well.  Even if it meant bumping the price up a little.  I would rather pay an extra buck or two than buy an entire clean version of the album (which I'm sure I would never listen to), just to get a couple bonus tracks.  Personally, I plan on buying one copy of the explicit version of the album.  Anything that isn't included on that version, I will probably search for online.

lol @ including bonus tracks and trying to market 'the chronic' or any death row music to a younger audience. the album is called 'the chronic' - the content is not exactly suitable for kids. smoke weed every day 8)
younger audience? where did you get that from?

besides, at least wideawake is adding new bonus content. that's better than all those cheap ass re-releases from death row in the past
Hes talking about how They said in a earlier press release, they are going to market the album to Walmart, and that they wanted Kids to enjoy the new stuff. Its fucking retarded lol. They might just be talking about other content (non-explicit) that kids can enjoy. Cause honestly The Chronic has a track called "A nigga wit a mother fuckin gun" lol
oh that, thanks for clearing it up.

yeah i don't see how that would attract kids either

Anything that isn't included on that version, I will probably search for online.
yeah, only one person needs to have the clean version.

Well I'm going to be DLing both the extra tracks from both. Cause Honestly I'm broke, all the money I get has to go to Rent and food for the family. When I do get money I do buy albums though, even if I already own em just 2 support real hip-hop.:p

I certainly can't blame you for that, man.  Money's definitely tight these days.  I haven't purchased very many albums lately for that reason.  I'm going to try to pick up one copy of this one, but that will be it for me.  I can't blame anyone who doesn't though.  I hope people who can spare the money will consider picking this up, but I understand it's not the best time for a bunch of extra expenses.
