The first time I met Snoop, I knew right away that he was going to be a star. The only thing that might have gotten in the way of his destiny was the dangerous streets and gang life of Los Angeles in the early nineties. Snoop never went anywhere without his two 380 pistols at the ready and always locked and loaded. This was the reality of life in LA in the early nineties.

After the release of Dr. Dre's Chronic and before Snoop's debut album Doggy Style, Snoop lived in a two bedroom apartment on Venice in Los Angeles. This picture was taken in the kitchen of that apartment. Although the apartment was humble it was the meeting place for Snoop, Daz and Kurupt and where most of the hits from Snoops album were initially created. Needless to say, the apartment was always full of chronic smoke which was used for "inspiration".

While shooting Snoop for his album Doggystyle, he was always looking for the most gangster pose that he could come up with. Although, Snoop is now looked at as a family man, a very active advertising pitch man, and all around nice guy, their was a time when this image was Snoop AKA Calvin Broadus. Good thing we all mellow with age. circa 1993
