IMO its hard cause each have a lot of work. Then you got the old 1930s movies and stuff. IMO Taratino even though he made Pulp Fiction and dogs, can't qualify.

Every one of his films takes stuff from other movies (call it Homage or Plagerism which ever suits you) as such a lot of cool concepts/lines were already taken from other movies (which were either already acclaimed or had a cult following.Only a couple were unknown). All he does is Combine em. IMO though he should really be on the list near the bottom of greatest, cause Pulp Fiction was one were he really stood out amongst everyone else, and had very little stuff from other movies.

i completely disagree, i like the fact that he gives a tip of the hat to the films befoe him, tarantino is like the biggest movie fan, but that doesnt take anything away from him, his style is so developed, you see a scene, and you go, thats so tarantino, and all his movies have such particular and spectacular directing, even jacvkie brown, which i liked, but wasa dropoff after reservior and pulp... tarantino is easily top 5 for me

cant beleive i forgot hitchcock

one story can be depicted in many ways and it seems that american filmmakers always got the right recipe.. they know how to create a masterpiece
can u imagine The Godfather directed by some japanese guy with japanese actors? well it is possible.. but im pretty sure that it wouldnt be considered as a classic movie..

yeah i guess im just trying to point out that most of the directors mentioned had a lot of different influences from around the world. its always gonna be subjective and from the point of view of films we might enjoy cause we culturally understand them, then american films would win.

but being objective more in the scheme of things, the most meaningful directors in cinema history are not all american.

What are these "failed" movies that Scorsese has directed?  The lowest graded movie for me is probably The Age of Innocence, which I give a C-.  Other than that, pretty much every movie ranges from C+ to A+ and most of them are closer to the A side.

not even that, i would say that MOST directors, even some named in this thread have a few flops & "wtf was that?" movies in them.

Spielberg is a God, but i thought War of The Worlds sucked; but it's not like i would say he failed as a filmmaker because of one movie lol.

but back to the point, if you said Spielberg, Coppola & Lucas are "the top 3", Scorsese is a close 4th; easily a top moviemaker of all time.
