After a setback, the much-anticipated bout between Floyd Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez is back on.
Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. will make his celebrated return to the ring Sept. 19, the rescheduled date for his 12-round welterweight showdown against Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Who do you got?
I choose JMM to pull the upset by TKO. (10 RDS) 8)
-
give me Mayweather by K.O. 8)
-
mayweather got this and then i hope he gives the fight everyone wants to c against pacman
-
Mayweather via Decision
I think it's pretty smart to put money on JMM though.
-
Floyd is going down.. i got my money on JMM
-
i think floyd will do just enough to get by on points, but it will be a good fight
-
Mayweather on points.
Im waitin for Pacquiao/ Cotto tho....that shit is gonna be a ridiculous fight.
-
Marquez in 9...
-
I'm pullin for my boy Marquez to win, but with all the political bullshit in boxing, Marquez is gonna either have to KO Mayweather or dominate in nearly every round if he wants to win. You know promotors are chompin at the bit for a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight and will do whatever they can to dismiss Marquez's performance.
Its sad how boxing works nowadays.
-
shit, i dont even know. I think Marquez will surprise a lot.
i ordered an adapter that hooks up the computer to the tv, so i can watch the fight via stream (cuz i know now that im watchin any Pacquiao fight via stream; that dude is too fast) hopefully it comes this week.
-
that nigga marquez drinks pee
-
Mayweather, decision.
-
I'm gonna say Mayweather by decision, I wouldn't be surprised to see a KO though.

Haha, that fool is dedicated.

ive been holding out on dropping my opinion on this but watching how MArquez trains he is reminding me of Rocky right now lol
i think he actually has a chance. i mean dont forget Marquez got to where he is at cus of his counter punching... but then Floyd could be wise with his shots and let Marquez be the aggressor like he always does in all his fights and make him attack and counter punch the counter puncher....
its gonna be a great fight im going with Mayweather but i honestly dont know how its gonna end
and i wouldnt be suprise if Marquez gives Money his first lost...
im like one of the only few going for Money Mayweather out of all my friends but thats cus all my friends are hispanic
-
One thing Floyd gets little to no credit for is his defense. He never gives his opponent a clear, open target to hit, alot of punches land on his arms and shoulders. And his defensive stance almost makes people have to lean in to get a better punch, which leaves you open to be counter punched. I respect counter punchers IF they have a good defense but Marquez does get hit ALOT. Manny tagged him with alot of good shots in both their fights, but Juan is a warrior and if he can find a way to get through Floyd's defense he has a shot.
-
Floyd, b Hop, Marquez and James Toney have to be some of the best counter punchers that are still active
i know im missing many others but nobody does it as good as them
+1 on that D Nice

Yeah Floyds defense is ridiculous. The way he leans back with his shoulder forward and his head tucked, hes a pretty difficult target. Part of the problem though is fighters going to the head. He's very hard to hit upstairs, you gotta take body shots with him. Also, Floyds ability to control the tempo of the fight. Ive never seen a Mayweather fight where the pace wasnt HIS pace. He confuses fighters a lot in the ring, which is why he doesnt always start fast...but by the middle of the fight the opponent looks completely out of synch. Remember De La Hoya saying "the jab just wasnt there tonight" after his fight with Mayweather lol. In the beginning of the fight when Oscar threw the jab, he was somewhat effective. Floyd took that away, and even a vet like De La Hoya couldnt figure him out. If Pacquiao gets past Cotto, and Floys is willing to step in the ring with him....Pacquiao might beat him. Its the first time Floyd will fight someone with equal handspeed, but more power, and relentless.
-
im a go wit floyd on this one..by the way he's 39-0 not 35-0. the big 40 is just around the corner. but as far as pac vs floyd..thats gonna be a fuccin fight.

Yeah his workout and training is crazy. Dude is a asshole, being from Vegas I must admit it, but Floyd got skills. Yeah most fighters aggressively go after Floyd in the early rounds and towards the middle of the fight Floyd changes up and becomes the more offensive minded fighter. He is very cautious in the early rounds and does not throw many punches, which for most boxing fans is boring. But once he figures his opponents angle and strategy, it's a wrap.

He reminds me a lot of one of my favorite boxers of all time, Sweet Pea Whitaker. Their style is a little different, but the same general idea. Defensive minded fighter who makes their oponents look bad in the ring. Precise, accurate punching, good hand speed, always in control of the pace. Sweet Pea IMO was the best p4p fighter of his time without question. I think the De La Hoya fight scoring was bullshit, and he was clearly robbed in the Chavez fight..

Yeah Oscar fought Whitaker later on in his career. I remember that fight in Vegas. Sweet Pea was clowning a lil too much in the ring but I still had him winning the fight. But back then you had to knock Oscar clean out to get a decision. And the Chavez fight it was the same thing. FIght was in San Antonio, TX I believe. Not Mexico but close enough and if they would have made the right decision, that place would have been a crime scene. Shit like that I hate about boxing. But yeah Sweet Pea was one of the best.

Yeah Boxing was definetely babying Oscar, and they didnt want to see Chavez's undefeated streak end. But I always felt like Chavez should have lost the fight to Meldrick Taylor...and Pernell simply took him to school in their fight. You can make a case for De La Hoya winning or losing the fight with Sweet Pea, but not a unanimous decision for Oscar.
-
Sweet Pea was a nice fighter.
-
Sweet Pea was a nice fighter.
yeah, I think ESPN has him ranked as the 10th best fighter of all time. Easily a top 10 in my book.
-
I hope Marquez gonna kick Pretty Boy's ass and shut his big mouth up..
-
Marquez is a tuff cookie with a lot of heart..but Mayweather is the buis. 40-0-25 KO's
The real ? is can Pacman take care of buis with Cotto? This fight is going to be something.
P.S. Shane Mosley is watching closely...they are all ducking him. remember i said that.
-
Shane is nice and all, but his ass is too old and he just wants to secure a big fight paycheck before it's too late. Mayweather called him out like 3 times and Sugar backed down all 3 times. Mayweather gains nothing from facing Shane at this point and time.
-

Kinda like how he gains nothing from fighting Marquez ;D
-
actually pretty boy gets a lot from this fight if he can beat marquez decisvely he will in most hardcore boxing fans minds have beaten the pound for pound best fighter, as for pacman he is good but he ducked a third marquez fight
-
Mayweather gains nothing from facing Shane at this point and time.

-He gets to fight against someone that a lot of people think beat Pac-Man, twice. This can be seen as a "warm" up to Pacman, but a really good one.
-He's facing another technical boxer that is a counter pouncher
-He's bringing in the PPV money
-
Bump, last full day of voting.

Mayweather wants nothing to do with Mosley, thats for sure. In boxing u know, its not always about fighters being scared of other fighters. Its the strategy of placing your fighter in fights where they can win, look good, or make a big pay day. Against Mosley, Mayweather wouldnt make as big of a payday as against Pacquiao, he'll be fighting a dangerous fighter that can beat him, and he might not look that good considering Mosleys counterpunching and hand speed. 3 negatives for Mayweather to taking that fight. With Pacman, Mayweather may not look great or even win, but he WILL get the big payday. Ive always been a big Mayweather fan, but a bigger Mosley and Pacman fan. Mayweather really didnt want to have anything to do with Margarito, and Mosley completely destroyed him.
-
LOL @ Marquez drinking piss. Mayweather destroys him by knock out. Then Pacquaio is gonna woop Floyd's ass
-
^^Im a big time Pacquiao fan....but I dont see why so many people are completely disregarding Cotto. Cotto might be Pacquiao's biggest test so far in his career but it seems like everyone is already looking to Pacquiao vs Mayweather.

So much for the 144lbs catchweight?
I wonder what will be the penalty.
-
ESPN is reporting that some Backstage negotiations happened last night...
& the contract was changed from 144lbs, Floyd will have to pay Marquez penalty $ for every pound over 144lbs.
looks like PBF is up to his bullshit again.
Another advantage for Floyd (As if he didn't already have enough)
That said, WAR Marquez!!

To each his own, just like I would never pay for a boxing event. The only fights I do wanna see is mayweather-pacquiao and the cotto-pacquiao fight.

-
Mosley pulled a Kanye West on Mayweather.
-
fuuuuuck when mosley came up, that was crazy.
i still think mayweather is a little bitch tho. and i dont see a pacqiuao vs mayweather fight anytime soon.

Mosley pulled a Kanye West on Mayweather.
lol, that was interesting.....him and Hopkins. Who let those fools in the ring anyway.
Man, Mayweather is amazing. How can a person block punches with their shoulders? lol......amazing. I'd like to see Mosley/Mayweather before Pacman.
-
holy muthafuccin shit...i aint never seen anybody like this nigga...that defense is fuccin PSYCHOTIC. talk about owning this shit. i dont see any of them niggas breakin down floyd. suga shane can eat a dicc...he couldnt touch that nigga on his best day. pac has a better shot. bring that shit on. fucc it...let that nigga go 50-0.
-
Lol at Shane interrupting him and B-Hop. Shane is just trying to make a fight happen. I really want to see Floyd and Shane go at it. I think Floyd would beat the shit out of Manny to, but as in the fight tonight, that is what he is supposed to do. Shane is a natural welterweight and has fought as high as junior middleweight and has as much hand speed and power as Floyd. Defense not so much but it would be a entertaining fight to say the least. BUT, I doubt it will happen.
-
Mosley and Mayweather wew doing a lil WWE style build-up so they can make a fight happen. Mayweather doesn't want any of Pacquaio if he beats Cotto so he's making a diversion.
-
The only boxer Floyd will have trouble with is Paul Williams, and that fight isn't going to happen so, Mayweather is King
-
Money may and Mosely would be the greatest match in boxing
i loved the ending of this fight
-
I just watched the replay of this fight...and lol Mayweather killed Marquez. The thing is, it had nothing to do with his size. He just out boxed him. Marquez is one of the best fighters in the world and Mayweather put on a clinic in the ring. Real shit, I cant ever recall a more one sided fight on the punch stats. Shit was ridiculous.
On that note. Im a big Mayweather fan, but a bigger Mosley and Pacquiao fan. Pacmans in an out style could give Mayweather trouble. Marquez was VERY easy to hit. Manny wont be, he moves his head from side to side a lot more and constantly jumps in and out making finding the range very difficult against him. Also, with Floyds D...Manny might be able to sneak that strait left in there where a strait right from Marquez wont work cus of Floyds defense (with his shoulder covering the left side of his face). Mosley would be a really interesting fight too. Floyds never faught someone with the same hand speed as him, and more power. Floyd wont be able to KO Mosley...but we've never seen Floyds chin tested yet and Mosley has real KO power. Problem is, both guys like to counter punch. Mosley had difficulty with the defensive minded Winkey Wright.
Either fight would be amazing. Mayweather vs Pacquiao would be the bigger PPV draw (assuming Manny gets by Cotto)
-
IMO, HBO's bias call of the fight made the perception of how one sided the fight truly was..
That said, Floyd was defo on point after his 2 year hiatus..
But his domination is false. He should have knocked out a lightweight.
JMM did his thing & despite his hillside type disadvantages he still survived the full 12rds.
That in itself it a testimonial to JMM's greatness.
Floyd is that dude @ 147lbs.
But if floyd's next fight ain't Mosley, Then fuck the Mayweather comeback...
(Pac is a lil' man aswell, PBF...)
It's about legacy, Fight WW's.
(Williams, Cotto, Berto, Margarito ect...)
leave them lightweight's alone...

Williams is definitely not happening, since Williams is going to stay at 160-168 most likely.
If Pacquiao beats Cotto, is Pacman truly another typical Lightweight fighter and should just be considered a little man? At that point, he has proven himself to be a worthy enough WW to be there with the others. Let's not forget that Mayweather started at 135 and moved up all the way to 154lbs. So all his career he's been facing bigger figthers. He's been in more fights where he's at a disadvantage "physically".
In order for Mayweather to face Berto, he pretty much has to remain undefeated for a handful of more fights while Mayweather has 2-3 more fights and maybe this will happen.
Margarito? Dude has lost a lot of respect, so I don't see someone even giving him a fight for a while. Mayweather will be too much for him anyway.
-
im pist Money pussied out of fights Sugar
but i think it might happen
-
im pist Money pussied out of fights Sugar
but i think it might happen
It's gotta happen. At this point, Mayweather is just looking to maximize his profits. Everything will unfold at the result of the Cotto-Pacman fight. If he fights Shane right now, it won't be as big as it would be after a Mayweather-Pacman fight. On the other hand, if Cotto wins, then he faces Shane 1st to increase interest in Cotto vs Mayweather. All of this is of course depending if Mayweather wins all these fights lol

leave them lightweight's alone...
Did you see the punch stats man? Whens the last time youve seen a more lopsided fight? What did Marquez land, like 16% of his punches? lol If Floyd would have stepped in there and just crushed him with power in the 1st round..it would have been less impressive in my eyes then what he did. He didnt beat Marquez so easily because of his size...he simply put on a boxing clinic with one of the most sound boxers in the sport.
