when eazy died and ruthless fell, it was the downfall for all independent rap labels. shortly deathrow rose, and fell hard, few others managed to reach the heights these 2 labels did without selling there souls to the devils. only one still left standing is j princes rap a lot but its a shell of its former self. everyones gotta pay homage to the godfather

Ruthless and Death Row may have been independently-founded but they were run on major label dollars (Priority and Interscope respectively). The whole "selling their souls to the devils" just sounds like the usual BS to me. Eric was a major influence on the up and coming CEO's who came into the rap game but let's not rewrite the story as if he and Suge or J. Prince didn't break bread with the same labels as these other cats are supposedly "selling their souls to". It's slightly better deals on some sides but the story ain't that much different.

I don't know what pellas you have at your disposal, but have you thought about doing a remix album for The Godfather of Gangsta Rap e.p. with these type of artists on there instead of Rhythm D's artists?  I think that could be dope.  I can imagine an Eazy 1,2,3 with a Dirty Red verse on there.  Or a "Still Fuck 'Em" with B.G. Knoccout and Dresta.  Or imagine "Cock the 9" with Bone Thugs.

so what? a lot of people bought into that white devil bullshit, without even knowing anything about Jerry.

about the chapter, yeah it's short, but it doesn't really look suspicious to me.
the mud throwing throughout the book wasn't professional at all, i agree.

look, Jerry Heller is far from perfect, but all the stuff i read/hear about him is based on rumours :P
i have yet to see someone really expose Jerry Heller.

no disrespect, i respect your view even though i heavily disagree. besides, there are multiple sides to the story.
it's just that Jerry Heller being the killer of Eazy-E, has to be the stupidest claim i've heard in a while.

I've really wanted to read Heller's book for a while, but haven't gotten a copy yet.  What exactly does he say, mudslinging wise?  I'll agree that that's never professional, but on the other hand, look at how much mud has been slung in his direction over the years.  There have been vicious things said about him over the years, and if you think about it, none of it has been substantiated with facts.  Was Jerry Heller a saint?  Probably not.  But I also don't believe he's this white devil who was only out to exploit NWA.  Quite the contrary.  Without Heller, there never would have been an NWA.
And Villain, with respect, what is there to tie Johnny J's unfortunate passing with Jerry Heller?  I understand they were business partners.  But Johnny J took his own life (while being locked up, if I understand the situation correctly).  Aside from logistics of how Jerry could even hypothetically have anything to do with that, what would be his motive?
I know historically, there has been a lot of animosity between Ice Cube and Jerry Heller.  I don't think those two will ever see eye to eye.  But it's one thing for Cube to leave the record label because he's unhappy with his contract.  And another for him to try to project the idea that Heller is some kind of Illuminati type that runs the world by remote control.
Moreover, if you look at Ice Cube's assertion from an historical perception, were the deals they signed really that bad?  Of course I can't say with certainty.  But look at the  artists who left Ruthless for Death Row.  Did any of those artists ultimately stay at Death Row, happy with the contracts they signed there?  Really, Michel'le is the only one who stayed at Death Row for a very significant amount of time.  And that may have been mostly because of her relationship with Suge.

oh yeah, i'm on the same page as you, when it comes to that.
well, in compared to what's been thrown at him, it's nothing ;)
i've read the whole book twice in total, but it's been a couple of months since the last time i've read the whole thing.
from what i can remember, he was mocking Dr.Dre, Ice Cube & The D.O.C. a few times.
but the book is certainly not a vent book at all, so i wouldn't look too deep into it.

anyway, you should really get the book 8)

Interesting.  I do need to read the book.  I guess to a degree I feel the need to defend Jerry Heller, just because so many people have attacked him over the years.  And at least most of it seems unfounded.  But on the other hand, I can't really defend anything Heller says in the book, because I haven't read it.  From what you and Dre-Day seem to be saying, he says some pretty unflattering things about Cube, Dre, and D.O.C. in the book.  And that's unfortunate.  It's a shame they all can't just move on.  I understand they will probably never have anything to do with each other in a business sense, ever again.  But it seems unfortunate that they all can't at least be respectful.  Whatever happened between them at Ruthless, happened a lot of years ago.  And I think for several of them, their experiences at Death Row Records may have shown them that no matter who you're dealing with, you're not always going to be able to work in optimum conditions.  I guess it goes back to the expression that "the grass always looks greener on the other side."

In regards to Jerry Heller's book, the worst stuff is said about Cube and D.O.C. He says he has no personal problems with Cube but it's clear from the comments he makes that there are still issues. He more or less describes D.O.C. as a cancer and calls Suge Knight the worst thing to happen to the music business. With Dre, his comments are a little more even-handed. He agrees with Dre's comment of "Jerry backed the wrong nigga" in the sense that as a businessman, he would have made more money with Dre but says it was a loyalty issue. He also says Dre backed the wrong guy as well in joining up with Suge. He states the opinion that Eazy reconciling with Cube in NYC was a pawn to get Cube to agree to an N.W.A. reunion and that Eric still did not like Cube. He says a couple of bad things about Dre here and there but he's a lot kinder in his analysis of him than he is with the others. The big thing I expected was for him to reitreate the claims of Dre stealing tracks and a lot of the other rumors but he's actually very complimentary of his skills as a producer and more or less, says he was the most musically important member of the group. He puts into question some of his actions in leaving Ruthless though he never outright acusses him of being involved in the infamous Suge extortion scenerio.

Interesting.  I don't really have an opinion on D.O.C., but He makes a pretty good point regarding Dr. Dre and Suge, and backing the wrong person.  I remember reading him saying something very similar in a recent interview, regarding Dr. Dre.  He pretty much said that he and Eazy underestimated Dre's value as a producer, and in hindsight, they should have tried to pay him more to get him to stay at Ruthless.
And I think his point about Suge is pretty valid too, considering how Dre left Death Row as well, after just a few years.
