Aight cuzz this what I know..I believe Armenia is the smallest of the former soviet republics. Armenia lies landlocced and earthquake ridden in rugged mountains and shit. In A.D. 301 (rather than 302) Armenia became the first christian nation. today its pretty much surrounded by Islamic busta nations. During World War I the Ottoman Turks was on some ruthless gangsta shit and forced out Armenians causing a diaspora to foreign havens. Armenia gained independence in 1918 but the muthafuccas succumbed to a Red Army invasion in 1920. In 1988 a devastating earthquake killed like 25,000 Lights type muthafuccas and conflict erupted with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh (a region of 140,000 ethnic Armenians). Armenia won independence in 1991. And by 1994 Armenians had defeated them bitch ass Azeri forces and had control of Nagorno-Karabakh—but the dispute remains unresolved tho.

I know that Armenians are efficient, shrewd businessmen, and can be very valuable in their flexibility of set prices and services.

Ok, off the top of my head....

301 AD is when they accepted Christianity as the state religion
405 AD is when the alphabet was created by Mesrop Mashtots
Sometime in the 1600s the first Armenian copy of the bible was printed
Soviets took control of Armenia in 1920 until the collapse of the USSR 71 years later

That's all I've got at the moment.

Armenians are an Aryan Caucasian people, and share common ancestry with the ancient Persians, and many Armenians lived (and continue to live) in Iran, but even the Armenians in Persia never claim to be Persian. In fact, the Persian Armenian community, which is at least 400 years old, has maintained the language (a bit distorted by now), and religion (Christianity) with the utmost staunchness. Many Armenians are emigrating from Iran now because of the repressions and diverse rules which limit basic freedoms.

There are close to 9 million Armenians in the world, and only 3 living in Armenia. the United States, Russia, and France have the largest diasporas, but nearly every country in the world (and every US state) has a small community, who are known to band together and build churches. There is a story that there were less than 10 Armenian families in Singapore who built a church in downtown Singapore. The reason for this massive emigration from Armenia has recently been tied to the economic hardship due to the economic blockade of nearly the entire border of the land-locked nation, and the corrupt government. Before that, the majority of the Armenian communities around the world were a result of the Genocide, committed by the Ottoman Empire in starting in 1915 and ending in the early 20's. Most Armenians (There were probably about 3 million living in Eastern Turkey) were either killed or managed to escape. The perpetrators of the Genocide were then killed one by one by members of ASALA, a revenge-centered secret international Armenian militia.

It's true that Armenians never had it easy. The key geographic location meant there were always invaders - Parthians, Assyrians, Romans, Turks, Russians, etc... The largest extent of Armenia ever was during the reign of Tigran the Great (Tigran Mets) in 95BC-55BC. His empire extended from the Caspian to the Black sea and down the eastern edge of the Mediterranean (where Eastern Anatolian Turkey now is located). Cicero, the Roman philosopher said of Tigran the Great that he "made the Republic of Rome tremble before the prowess of his arms." (Got that fact online, gotta admit).

There have been numerous capitals of Armenia in its long history, and the most modern is Yerevan, with over a million inhabitants. Yerevan is a very pleasant city with a tree shaded center,  more cafes than probably anywhere else per capita, and lots of fountains and monuments. During the Soviet Union, Armenia was a center for medicine, chemistry, physics, aeronautics, astronomy, music, theater, art, engineering, and crafts (leather, shoes, wool), as well as a tourist destination for winter sports. After the collapse of the Soviet Union many of these industries withered, and for about 10 years the economy was declining each year until the early to mid 2000's, when links with Iran were improved, and relations with Russia cooled, and eventually became very amiable once again.

For Armenian food in LA, check out Zankou Chicken (the most accessible), and in Glendale, there are dozens of restaurants, namely around Glendale Blvd, Central Ave, and Glenoaks. Elena's Cuisine and Raffi's Place are probably the most popular. Armenian food is rich in vegetables, various meats, fruit, grains, and dairy. It's very healthy if eaten with a reasonable amount of bread (which is very hard to do). If you've never had Armenian food, I would suggest immediately trying it!
