I have been following this dude's career from 1999 (the beginning of his deathrow days)... and I cant seem to pinpoint at which point between that time and now that he become a westcoast gangster. This guy started out on that lyrical dictionary type rap shit (you know where rappers would look in the dictionary for big words and try to incorporate them into their raps, resulting in nonsensical lyrics). At the time, he was on deathrow records and that was unheard of.. a deathrow rapper who didnt indulge in the gangster rhetoric.. Now he has left the now defunct deathrow (fuk u lydia harris) and all we are hearing from him is this gangster type music.. I mean listen to his rhymes on the slaughterhouse album.. like come on dude who are you trying to fool.. you aren't a gangster and way far from hardcore.
This is the problem with Cali rappers. This is something that has plagued westcoast hip hop. You all rappers fail to recognize that an area code does not provide you with a license to be gangster.
So Crooked I , do yourself a favour and go back to your old ryhming ways.... and while you are at it check out www.thehuq.com

Crooked I didn't spit seem "gangster" during the 19th Street days and Death Row days? You might want to go back and take a listen. I could recommend some really tough tracks if you'd like.
I understand your point, but I never got the impression that he was a mere backpack rapper.
