Title: Question about "Changes" by 2Pac...
Post by: sweetdudejim on October 02, 2009, 08:31:40 PM
So its over 10 years since this song became a huge hit. And theres always been something that bothered me about this song.

Given that this and "I Wonder If Heaven Got a Ghetto" share a good deal of lyrics I was wondering about the relationship between to the two songs.

But most importantly, when was this song recorded? Pre-Death Row or during the DR era? And did it really have the "The Way It Is" chorus or not? Because to be quite honest, I couldn't see 'Pac using it. I might totally be wrong, as he's even used "Pop Life" by Prince before.

Alright any info on this song would be appreciated...

changes was made in 1991, a  cut from 2pacalypse along with Criminal and Tears of a Clown.  and probably a few others i can't remember.

i wonder if heaven... was made in 1993, a cut from Strictly 4 my niggaz that was able to make the B-side of the I Get Around single

so Changes comes first for the record

according to EDI pac didnt like it

and it worked out best that it got remixed and put out in 1998, that song really helped him blow the fuck up posthumously

kept his name alive and had Greatest Hits sellin like 9 or 10 mil

not that i don't believe it came from '91, but where did that info come from? i never heard that before. his voice doesn't sound like '91 it sounds more mature than that. buut it could be. also on wikipedia it says it was rerecorded in 95 and 96, so possibly on death row for a possible release? hmm. anybody else got info?

This was recorded in 1992 as Pac confirms it around 2:35 I believe.  The og is good and I have to admit that Amaru did a great job with the remix as well.

So it's for sure that Tupac had NO input on the final version of the song? It for sure wasn't finished/remixed/etc until 1998? Or did he remix/rerecord it before he died? And he didn't like it? Do we have a source from EDI saying that? That would interesting to read/hear.

2pac redid the song in 1998 from his hut in Cuba

The song was remixed in 1998 (albeit with the same Bruce Hornsby sample as the original version), probably because the original one wasn't mixed all that well and didn't sound all that great, particularly the way the beat sounds toward the end of every other bar... it's hard to explain.  And maybe they didn't want to have to get the Run DMC sample cleared.
