According to the rapper's lawyer, Shyne's citizenship is currently being reviewed.
His release is now under review, as representatives for the rapper revealed that the Brooklyn MC is being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at an unspecified facility in Western New York State. Officials are determining whether or not to deport the rapper, who was born in Belize, a rep explained. "Shyne is currently in federal custody while his future immigration status is determined," the rep said in a message to MTV News. Shyne attorney Oscar Michelen emphasized to MTV News on Tuesday afternoon that Shyne has not been released, contrary to media reports.

As the decision on whether rapper Jamal "Shyne" Barrow will be deported to his country of origin, Belize, after serving eight years in prison continues, the emcee's uncle has said he is ready to welcome his nephew if forced to leave the United States.

In addition to Shyne's family, the rapper's attorney Oscar Michelen gave an update to Belize radio and television stations on Wednesday (October 7).
Michelen stated that Shyne wants to remain in the U.S.A. and his family has hired immigration lawyers in New York to try and ensure that he remains there. Shyne reportedly has a "green card", or permanent residence in the U.S. but never acquired U.S. nationality. Shyne's uncle Michael Finnegan who is a member of the Belize Cabinet, Minister of Housing and close ally of Shyne's father Prime Minister Dean Barrow, told the media today that if Shyne is deported, he will be welcomed in Belize. Mr. Finnegan who helped raise Shyne as a child in Belize when his mother left for the U.S.A. said that "...his accommodation are ready and waiting for him in Belize if he is deported." (Belizean)

Never really been a fan of his music but he seems like a solid dude. Hope he makes it past this bullshit

Damn dude can't catch a break, I was really hoping he'd get out after serving his time and be able to make so more music. For those who wrote shyne off early due to the Biggie comparison should really check again he's talented.

Fuck hip hop artist, they do that shit to Black men in general. What Shy did was dumb as fuck but shit, the man served his time, leave him the fuck alone. Now if he gets out and he fucks up again - take his ass down. But atleast give him that chance.
