Last night we dropped Snoop Dogg's brand new single off his upcoming solo album "Malice N Wonderland", and a day later we're back with ANOTHER new Snoop Dogg single, the difference being that this is a Snoop DOGGY Dogg single off the upcoming WideAwake release "Snoop Doggy Dogg: The Lost Sessions Vol. 1", which will be dropping next tuesday, October 13th.

The track we have for you today is the original version of the track "O.G.", which was later featured on Daz Dillinger's "Retaliation, Revenge & Get Back" album, with Daz, Snoop and Nate Dogg.

The original version only featured Snoop and Nate, check it out:

yeah a nate dogg album is what we need. he has enough songs and features in the vault to make a complete album. he sued suge knight for 10 millions$ for royalties but he never saw the money from that fat fuck.when you think about it nate dogg was featured on every death row project, singles especially (all eyes on me,dogg food, the chronic, doggystyle etc..) and never got paid! let's give the man what he deserves the money and the credits!

that is fucked up..but don't worry..I'm sure Nate has money..I don't even want to imagine what he was charging for hooks at the height of his career lol..and not like his price was deferrring from big rappers to using him on their lead single hooks..even outside the west..Ludacris, Jadakiss, etc.

Yeah the mixing is just atrocious... completely unacceptable. "Keep It Real Dogg" sounds B+, this however is a F=fail. Pure failure.

Without an adequate explanation from WIDEawake (i.e. reel missing, only had the rough show-mix available to release) I won't be paying for this album.

WHY THE FUCK are the rhodes/horns always so fucking LOUD IN THESE MIXES!!. WHO THE FUCK IS MIXING THIS SHITT@#!E:LWEFFWK??!?!?

I'm so fucking angry with these people I wish they would just NOT release this shit instead of releasing it so shitty. It's insulting....

I dont understand why they would put this out in this quality?  I remember hearing the Nas "Lost Tapes" album thinking, "man this shit is dope, these old tunes I never heard sound great"....

I was hoping for the same effect with this new Snoop Lost Sessions, but it seems more like skeletons of old songs that havnt been finished properly.

No. They are awkwardly prominent in these mixes to the determent of the song. Just fucking listen... they're higher than the vocals! Same thing with "Smoke On", the retard mixing these doesn't know what he's doing.

This is garbage.

hearing the vocals is kinda important. smoke on was muffly as hell. that other track from lost sessions they put up on spin magazine site sounded fine. this is pure fail. this isn't even listenable. wide awake should be embarrassed.

if there's gonna put out material, do it properly or not at all. its not like they are going to be putting out remixed versions in the future. this is as good, or should i say bad sounding as you will ever hear this music. kind of a shame.

master reels do not contain breaks - just loops of beat elements and the vocal layers.  what was done here is a very poor mixing of the layers without any creativity or understanding of hip hop structure.  sorry, but listening to this LOOP for 4 minutes even if it was properly mixed would get old real quick.  is the whole cd just a dozen loops?  if so that's a pretty big insult to dre and the others who made the beats.  yeah, i also agree about the vocal volume.  i'd rather the vocals be too loud than having to concentrate through a shittily mixed beat to guess at softer inflections.

i understand that not everyone in the world can mix or has an ear for it, but god if WE wants any kind of return on their investment they should have put together a staff knowledgeable of the basic principles of music.  so far the track record isn't looking good.  i mean holy hell the bonus songs from chronic have feedback and hiss on them.  pathetic.

Yeah.  But isn't the good quality version of "Doggystyle" that's available right now only about 2 and a half minutes long while the album version is supposed to be over 5 minutes long?  I mean, I see what you're saying, but I think having the full length cdq version of "Doggystyle" is a major selling point to a lot of people on here.

if this was a bootleg release then maybe, but this is a retail release by people who have access to the original masters.  there is absolutely no reason why these songs should be presented in such low quality.  studio time with a competent engineer usually only runs $50 to $150 an hour, so for a few grand the whole album could have been done so much better.

sorry but if the album is 1) poorly mixed and 2) nothing but loops without breaks or variation i think people will seek downloads instead of purchases.

bottom line is that death row is now wide awake, but the legacy and reputation of death row is being tarnished by such sloppy releases.  even the cover of this release looks thrown together.  gotta laugh when even the weakest cover from death row's old singles easily trump this comeback album's cover.

I just read an article that says Lara Lavi is remodeling the WideAwake offices and putting in a gourmet kitchen. She seems good at spending money, just not for what's important. Uh....maybe adequate mastering, packaging, and promotion are more important than you being able to stuff your already ample face with fish tacos. So far this company has done nothing to impress. They'll pump out another substandard product and some of you will go running to the store with your money in your hand begging to be handed a pile of crap. It's hardly a surprise that people like Dr. Dre and Snoop have had little to do with these releases. Maybe this one will break a thousand in sales.....maybe. It's obvious that the Death Row assets have fallen into the wrong hands.

It seems to me that the poor mixing to these releases is a legitimate criticism.  However, most of the time I don't have a good enough ear for mixing that it really detracts much from my enjoyment of these tracks.  For those that it bothers, I can understand it.  For me, in most cases, it's not a big deal.  Occasionally if the poor mixing is really egregious, I'll pick up on it and it might bother me.  But otherwise, I think I tend not to notice a lot of bad mixing.  Regarding "The Lost Sessions," I've heard a few people say that some of the songs sound like they've been properly mixed, and others sound pretty awful.  Having only heard a few tracks from it, I have to say that nothing really stood out to me.  But if the overall consensus is that the mixing is bad on some of the songs but not others, is it possible that John Payne was still responsible for mixing and remastering some of the songs on here?  I know he was supposed to be taken off of mixing duties after Lara Lavi heard the end result of the mixing he did on "The Chronic Relit" bonus tracks.  Maybe the decision to use someone else wasn't made until the mixing on this project had already been partly completely.

I know they're two different things.  I thought I read it in the interview that was conducted with Lara Lavi on this site.  Maybe I'm not remembering it correctly then.  I thought the complaint that most people had was that both the mixing and mastering were sub par.  But if you know that to not be accurate, maybe you can further explain.

***I went back and found it.***

Here is the direct quote:

"We really wanted to make it a special tribute to Dr. Dre. John Payne, who was a part of the very early experience of Death Row, was responsible for all the production, song choice, and handling all the mixing and mastering. He only did that for this first release, it’s company policy that all future releases with go to “Big Bass” Brian and Bernie Grundman."

You can see she refers to both the mixing and the mastering.  Now maybe her intention was only to indicate that he was taken off mastering.  But you can see by the way it was worded, why I inferred that he was taken off both mixing and mastering duties.

ah ok but she might be confused a little bit because Brian Gardner is a mastering engineer only and he doesn't do mixing.
