^Yep

everyone talking about how dirty Portugal was in that game, give me a break..Go back and put it on..in the opening TWO minutes of the game, Ronaldo was the victim of two very nasty, dirty fouls. Holland set the tone from the beginning. They bit off more than they could chew.

it's 2009 and I wouldn't be bothered if Portugal's team won't be there in 2010. They're dirty, they're unsporty, they smell, they're unfair, they're foul and they stink.

Of course U don't want us there...we're responsible for eliminating your team TWICE in recent memory :P

we're clearly better than Holland, which explains why u wouldn't want us there

^the seeding is smart. It goes by FIFA ranking.

Top 4 seeds play bottom 4 seeds (draw)

Russia
France
Greece
Portugal

will play

Ukraine
Ireland
Bosnia
Slovakia

This is smart. Do U really wanna see Portugal playing France and Bosnia playing Slovakia? It's better this way.

It takes away the chance of 1 of those countries being able to make it when they rarely ever go to finals. I think its bullshit. Theres aready a couple of teams going to that World Cup that have no chance (North Korea and either New Zealand or Bahrain) so why would it matter which teams qualify? Its not every World Cup that Bosnia has a chance as big as this to qualify and the World Cup only comes around every 4 years.
Title: Re: thank you denmark (soccer/football)

^But Portugal & France have performed pretty well in the last few tournaments. Last 3 major tournaments, Portugal were final 8 teams; 2 of which final 4, and finals. France were finalists in the last WC. So just because there are a couple of teams going that have no chance, they should try and send more of them? I don't think so. If they can beat Portugal or France, they deserve to be there.

That's nobodies fault but Bosnia.
Title: Re: thank you denmark (soccer/football)
Post by: No Compute on October 14, 2009, 04:14:26 PM
Yeah but why should Portugal and France etc. have it easy, there should be a level playing field and the decision to seed the draw when qualifying is well under way is bullshit and clearly FIFA shitting it because the World Cup may have ended up missing a few so called big teams.

But by saying that, you could also say its France's and Portugals fault for not making it through the group stages. They were the top seeds in their respective groups so they have already been given the best chance of qualifying. So basically what I'm saying is why should the lower seeded teams suffer just because the 1st seeded teams couldn't make it through their groups?
Title: Re: thank you denmark (soccer/football)
Post by: Lunatic on October 14, 2009, 06:10:57 PM
^I really wouldn't say it's suffering though. It's just being looked like that because Portugal & France are power houses. I don't think FIFA is making this shit up as it goes along; I imagine its the rules of the playoffs. When is the draw? Can't wait to see who we get.

The games are being played on Nov. 14 and 18

Big teams shouldn't play other big teams and small teams shouldn't play other small teams?

Fuck it then, let's just cancel the competition and just present the world cup to the big teams and have it rotate between them every 4 years. ::)

That would probably still rule Portugal out from getting the world cup though. :P

we can just all agree to disagree lol. I am in favor of the seeding and not because it gives us an easy match. Just like if they did it in South America and for whatever reason Brazil nor Argentina finished first, I would say they shouldn't play each other and say Chile ends up playing Ecuador.

LOL nice shot at the end, whose your team? Please say England :P (we own)

Its fair enough them being seperated in the Group stage as you wouldn't particularly want to see a group with Luxembourg, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Malta, San Marino and Faroe Islands. I for sure don't want to see them at a World Cup. But all of them play-off teams managed to finish second in their groups so there is no way that certain teams should be given the benefit of the doubt.

Greece & France may have a tough time

Portugal won't?  ;) Bosnia knows how to score goals.
But their defense sucks. I think will be ok.

they lost to Spain 5-2 in their recent qualifier. They can score and that does worry me with our at times shaky defense. But at home, I expect to score 3 goals against them.

Well since Scotland aren't there i will resort to supporting my second country, Ireland. And if they dont make it let's hope New Zealand do. And if they dont then it's back to 'Whoever England are playing'.
