Snoop Dogg... Damn, he sounds so awesome on Chronic and Doggystyle. So much potential lost. Everything from his voice, delivery, flow is insane. Also, he fits the old school g-funk beats incredibly well.
Listening to his new stuff and comparing it to the MC he used to be is what makes me sad. He makes a banger every now and then, but after Doggystyle it seems he gets worse by each album.
-
It is what it is, sometimes Snoop Dogg makes commercial/garbage music and sometimes that gangsta shit we all love. "Doggystyle" is a perfect album, only other album from Snoop Dogg that comes close is "No Limit Top Dogg", there ain't really no wack tracks on that album, only a few weaker tracks compared to the others.
-
that was 1994/94 and now is u belive it or is 2009 8)
-
your 2nd album is doggfather, i ain't got to say mo'
-
yall realized that those albums were released more than a decade ago right? dude was a kid.. and now he is a grown man, wich to me would explain the change of voice
-
it makes me sad ppl still say this about Dre & Snoop
-
Nice attempt to flame me, but still fail.
So itīs a given that you steadily decline in quality from your first album to your current music? That is a retarded statement. Alot of artist grow and improve over the years, Dr. Dre being a perfect example. He made awesome music in the 80`s and 90`s, and still make dope music that is with the times.
Most of you that have replied here don`t seem to get my point. I am in no way (!) whining about Snoop, as I stated earlier, I think he bangs out a great tune every now and then. But to change so drasticly in quality over these years? Come on man...

Yeah u r bitching. You don't need to make topics like these. What you think ur the 1st person to say something like this. U think u have a universal opinion? U don't. U either like the song or you dont. Doggystyle was only 9 songs. if u think the man ain't dropped 9 songs that r just as hot since then ur trippin'. bcuz thats wat ur sayn. bitch please, bitch niggaz, gd up, get bout it and rowdy, gin n juice 2, and so many more. Git off the man's nuts. Everybody on here bitches about Snoop in some way or form, and then the topic turns into somethin about Dr. Dre. It's repetitive and gay. Just chill and lock the topic.

well how can it make u sad? these albums re straight classics and i listen to them in the same frequency like back in the days and they ll never sound old to me.
i also like some of dres or snoop newer stuff, so it all good.
-
When you are over 30 years old, I don't expect you to make a straight classic album like Doggystyle. Doggystyle was the voice of the youth back in the early 90's. Now Snoop's got kids older than you guys here. Dude, let it be what it was, 'cause Snoop is old school and that's that. He can still put out great records, be the Hip-Hop Sinatra, and do his thing, but he can't do Doggystyle again. He ain't lived in the hood for over 15 years. Think about it.
-
aye stay up homie.
Its gon' be alright!
-
i agree - snoop fell the fuck off after the death row days
but thats what happens to 95% of rappers after they make it big

lol....how is making dope 9 songs within a few weeks equivalent to making 9 dope songs and a lot of whack ones over the course of 15 years and 9 albums?
The original poster has a right to bring up the decline of quality in Snoop's music (something that you would be crazy to deny). Its called criticism. And without it there would be no way to distinguish between good music and crap.

your 2nd album is doggfather, i ain't got to say mo'
I really liked Tha Doggfather. Some great tracks and beats from Daz, Soopafly, Sam sneed and DJ Pooh. Maybe a bit too long and a couple of fillers is my only gripe.

that's cool.
i wouldn't say it's bad either, just not that great

snoop's lisp style got irritating as fuck. they needed to run him through a de-esser. the beats on that album were top notch though. it would be nice to have as an instrumental album.
that's something WA should look into. think differently did a lot of wu instrumental albums and they actually sold pretty good. any non-loop death row albums should do well and cost nothing to produce.
-
Snoop had fire in his voice in those days. He had the hunger. He came hard and aggressive, even when he did his lil singing thing. Though when he got big he just didnt seem to have that hunger and the court case seemed to shake him a bit. Even though he was dope on Murder Was The Case soundtrack, you say a slight decline from Doggystyle/Chronic. he seemed more laid back and less agressive. then of course on Doggfather he sounded weak. The beats were decent, his lyrics were decent, it was simply the voice and the passion was gone. And rarely has he spit with fire since then. I mean he's had some good songs since then, he's still good, but he doesnt give the thrill i get from listening to his old rapping style

Thats what I was thinking too. I would love a Chronic, Doggystyle, Dogg Food, and Doggfather instrumental album. But obviously it won't happen.

So according to you, if a rapper puts out albums of lesser quality, no one should ever mention it? Bro, I've seen you go in on other rappers before. But all of a sudden when it comes to talking about Snoop you catch feelings?
edit: I just skimmed thru your recent posts. I guess if Snoop is your favorite rapper of all time you would have a hard time taking criticism of him. There's no point in trying to reason with you. But seriously? You really believe his post-2000 albums are better albums than Doggystyle?
-
hes not lost potential. he made doggystyle.
-
Snoop is a legend, end of. He's put out enough decent material over time to overshadow some of the weaker cuts he's done.
-
shut the fuck up
-
Anybody who say Snoop ain't spit fire like he did on Doggystyle just hasn't listened to enough Snoop Dogg. Doggystyle was his best album but nearly most of his other material has been good enough to hold it's own.
-

"over time" is the key phrase. He's put out 10 solo albums and his first one is the only one I can call a great album. Of course he has a few hot songs every album, but its aggravating that he can't be consistent and come out with good albums.

I would say Last meal and Topp Dogg are great West Coast albums
-
I liike snoop, but you have 2 understand he can sound weak and shitty as fuck with out the proper production. The production on doggy was top notch, if he got Dre 2 produce his entire album, with G-Funk beats he would be able to make a new doggy. Reason I say G-Funk is because Snoop's smooth vocal flow pretty much was built for that type of music.

I wouldn't. Last Meal is above average but still no where close to Doggystyle.

Snoop's voice and style changed pretty suddenly and hasn't gone back since.
I remember buying All Eyez On Me the day it came out and thinking, holy shit, this will be AMAZING, 2Pac and Snoop on the same track, and then listening and thinking, yeah, it's good, but that's the not the same Snoop from Doggystyle.
Then when Doggfather came out I was like, what the hell is going on here, his delivery is really restrained now, not as strong and he does these annoying little adlibs.
And he's had the same style since - I got every Snoop album since then hoping he'd return to form, but he never has... I've kinda given up on him getting to that level again. He's made a few good tracks since Doggystyle, but as an MC, he hasn't come close to the stuff he was doing back then.
The thing is, from his perspective, he doesn't need to. Reading his autobiography, it's like he used to practice all the time before Chronic and Doggystyle as he wasn't famous and had nothing else to do. Once he got famous, he just sits around smoking all day, not rapping, not advancing his style, just chilling and calling himself the boss.
So I think Doggystyle is the best we'll ever hear Snoop - he's not hungry anymore, and he has no one pushing him, and he doesn't need to push himself because he's got a comfortable life now, and he's not a musical perfectionist like Dre.

Agreed. Plus he knows he can still sell, make money and doesnt even need to rap good to have a hit song (Beautiful among plenty of others). He can make money just off his name and the character he has become in the media and general publics eyes. The dude does have charisma and can be a funny man, no wonder he isnt as motivated and hungry. Hell if i was him i'd probably chill back alot more too.
Somebody should ask him why he doesnt deliver rhymes the same way he used to back in the day, in a way that perhaps wont offend him lol
-

hahhaha. I got every Snoop album. Some good some bad, but to be honest alot of it was due to good production. His lyrics arent where he fails. But his delivery and fire in his voice is missing.
Compare this
Go listen to Tha Shiznit. Then go listen to his latest song. He is no longer agressive, he is just laid back
-
Snoop still got the voice and flow. I noticed more or less depending on the subject matter are you going to get the more aggressive flow and tone from him but when he does, he still is one of the best.

He needs to do it more often. can you point out the songs he does i think was like one on Blue Carpet Treatment
-
Snoop falls off and comes back every few years. From his Chronic - Dogg Food period he was great, then he fell off until Top Dogg, really shining on Tha Last Meal... then he got lazy again.. on BCT he went back to really spitting but he's slummin it again now

I like Sexual Eruption... i fucked to that song so Ego Trippin is an automatic great west coast album to get high too just like every snoop cd
i just wish Snoop would get Warren to a great direction cus Warren's album came a bit too weak and i still never heard any new Nate Dogg.
im looking forward to Malice in Wonderland
-
Theirs a reason no other rappers metnion snoop in their top five.
-
When snoop comes down here ill be smoking out at the American Bank Center watching his ass
i remember when he would hold it down at Concrete street with Tha eastsidaz and everyone from Dogg House
he killed it with game in 07
Game put a good performance but not as good as Snoops
my homie and his wife that are stationed in Boston saw Snoop kill it over there in the east coast too
Snoop holds it down
-
theres no denieing the fact he doesnt spit with the same hunger and passion he did in 93. Just listen to the songs and compare the voice. He's laid back now and does funny ass adlibs
-
dont cry
-
dont cry
Im not crying just stating the truth
I'm not even dissing Snoop now so dont you cry. I still think Snoops aight, but i know alot of people say he fell the fuck off after DOggystyle and dont listen to him no more. I at least appreciate his newer stuff somewhat, but theres no denying he aint the same. Its fact. Its like the fact we breath in oxygen, its fact that Snoop doesnt rap the same no more
-
Snoop just got lazy around 1996. His rhymes became nursery compared to the harmonizing flow of Doggystyle. He does have some bangers after "Doggystyle" though (No Limit Top Dogg, Tha Last Meal, and even Doggfather)..never really fucked with anything after that.
-
Snoop Dogg has made his mark on the game, anyone interested in him reverting back will be highly dissapointed cause he won't! What makes more people skeptical of Snoop, Dre, and other past West greats is the fact that no one else hasn't really showed up since then which is sad. It is sad that these boards are majority Snoop Dogg Pound Ice Cube Game based, and no one else.
And yeah you can name MAYBE 5 peeps post 2000 career that can shake things up with the right people and produce some new classics but thats about it. And you really can't count Crooked cause he signed with Deathrow in the late 90s. I'm pretty sure he's in his 30s. Not saying there isn't any young talent on the West cause there is but not anyone that currently have albums.
Westcoast rappers in the 90s still outshining the youth, which is saaaaaaaaaaaad!! on the mic and album wise. You can talk about poor albums from Snoop all you want but his whole catalogue is still better then most albums from other young artists on the west.
-
snoop's still got it, listen to *think about it*
we need more tracks like that..more spittin'less bullshittin'
-
I think the chemistry and crew also had alot to do with Doggystyle being Snoops best album...Snoop has not had it exactly like that since. Not only was he hungry for both success and money (Suge was not paying him much) but everyone around him was hungry also....The whole Dogg Pound crew, Warren G.....Dre was still hungry for respect as a producer even after the Chronic. Has Dre produced an entire Snoop album since then?? At that time, Snoop would jump off a fuckin building if Dre told him..That is how hungry he was for success and he did not know how to make hit records so Dre had him totally under control music wise. It seems to me that after Dre left DR , Snoop just lost alot of discipline and started spitting bullshit half the time. I respect Snoops legacy big time but dude has never been the same.
