I think it's a nice take on it, but I don't think it totally works. Just my honest opinion, I think the vocals sound way too uptempo for the beat. Again, that's just my take.

The instrumental is straight, it just doesn't match the acapella to me.

where the fuck did u get tha stems from?  i did everything i was supposed to on tha DR site (i think) and i never saw it.  and about the track it's off by a second.  good idea for the instrumental tho, it makes sense, it just isn't on time.

This is the exact same tempo and vocals position over the drums (snare) as the original. It's identical--compare it and you'll see.
There is nothing off beat about it.

The only stems I used were vocal tracks (Dre, Snoop, chorus sample). I didn't use the bass, moog, or strings... they were just too recognizable. I figured you can't really outdo the original so you might as well go in a different direction.

In looking for this sample I found a bunch that sounded interesting. If anyone wants I can post them for download and you're welcome to experiment. I also adjusted the beginning of each stem to be on bar exactly for ease of remixing. If anyone wants I can upload those too.

+1 on that front, I'd also like to know if that's yer instrumental or was that pulled from somewhere else? I've been meaning to write a beat for the stems DR/WIDEawake released for this contest. I could write a book on how dre has influenced & inspired me as a musician tho. just to give y'all an idea, I was a punk kid who despised rap/hip-hop typical white kid in the 90's... who grew up on his parents hippy music, green day & nirvana. but ever since my little bro got 2001 & some N.W.A I was hooked...  8)

It's an original production. I sifted through a number of old 70's and 80's records and grabbed anything that sounded interesting. I went with the current sample which is by an artist who Jay-z also sampled for one of his more famous tracks. The beat is constructed from scratch, there are no loops or drum samples. I make everything in Reason and assemble it from scratch. I never sample the drums.

I'll upload the stems on bar with the records I didn't use. They're not chopped or otherwise contorted so you'll need to be able to manipulate the records how ever you want to incorporate them. Maybe someone will come up with something cool. There are a bunch of Love Unlimited songs that I wanted to use and that sound so good but they just never came together.

I'll upload them later today.

Doesn't sound off to me. I like the fact that it's got that early 90's rough laid back style to it, so for that reason, it really works as a remix for that time frame, which ideally - we would prefer rather than a modern sound to it
