I still don't get the hype over a set of head phones. That you want good ones when you record in a studio, I get that... but my €10 ear phones do the same job for me.

I've tried them for like 5 seconds. The first obvious difference is that they silence all noise in the immediate area the second you put them on your ears. It's like it creates a vacuum and they just leech on to your ears. I can't really comment on how nice they are though. There's other factors involved like the hardware it's hooked up to and the quality of the file at hand.

of course you can hear the music even with those headphones.....but the difference is HUGE

what are the (major important) differences?

It's just a little bit about the name that is attached to that product and what that name stands for: Dre-Quality Music, Trend Setter, et al.
Plus a little bit has been invested, i assume, into the technological aspect of the headphones as well..
Just my take...

The clarity of the sound is the major difference. You can pick up background effects in amazing detail.
You also get a better soundscape/stereo effect with over the ear headphones. With the Dre headphones, the bass is unlike anything I've heard on anything other than a proper speaker system. Comes through crisp and clear.
That being said, they are still overpriced.

I see Lady Gaga has her own set of head/ear phones too..

I can't imagine that when I ride my bike I will enjoy the music more with Dr. Dre ear phones in.

They're pretty big so it's not too effective to ride a bike and have them on. Matter of fact they're only good if you're at home or workplace.

No, but everyone will know you spend €300 on a pair of headphones which will make you look ridiculously cool or just plain ridiculous.

They have these ear knobs too...

The last option is the most likely one :P
