I'm starting to get fed up with people thinking that Dr Dre has bought loads of people into the hiphop game, I mean I had an argument from sum fool the other day who was saying that 2 Pac owed his success to Dre, I mean what a sucker he was. Anyways here is a list of people that Dre has made successful in my eyes, feel free to add people to it.
DOC
Snoop
Knocturnal
Those people are seriously the only ones I can think of, and still everyone goes on about him being some guy who brings people into the business.
Comments?
-
eminem :P
-
Sorry dude but....how can you put Knocturnal over Eminem?!!?
-
Hittman - lol
Xzbit was changed by his involvements with Dre
-
Oh yeah I forgot about Eminem.
I don't think that you can attribute much of Xzibit's success to Dre. I think that Xzibit was starting to move towards using the style of production that we have seen on Restless and Man vs Machine anyway, having already hooked up with Soopafly on 40 Dayz and 40 Nightz and appearing on a track off of Soopafly's album, and having had a Melman beat on LA Times. I think Xzibit would have blown up with his third album regardless of Dre's involvement.
Hittman definately doesn't count, Dre didn't even get round to releasing his album.
-
Dre's brought in many...I think these are his best
1. Eminem
2. Snoop Dogg
3. N.W.A.
-
Dre is like a general manager/coach. Everyone he has made successful was already full of talent, they just needed a forum to showcase it, and aliitle pointers to help make it sell. Snoop and Eminem were unknown, Dre took them in polished them up and sent them out. Xzibit and Tupac were well known among the Hip Hop community but no one outside knew there music. Dre gave them songs that got people to listen. (X, and California Love). He is not completely responsible for their success but he did help. Look at Shaq, he was next to nothing before Phil Jackson came along.

defo eminem. Just saying eminem is good enough for me. I mean a white rapper. Thats amazing.
-
Yo Shallow, your 2 Pac comment was pretty stupid. Plenty of people had heard of 2 Pac before California Love, hell that was probably the worst single Pac ever released. You trying to tell me that Dear Mama didn't gain Pac commercial success?
And Murrow, it was Eazy E who put NWA together, and I hardly think you can say that NWA's success with down to Dre.
-
Go back and check the record sales, whether you like Cali Love or not is irrelevent, it sold records and it was every , it was NOT his best song, not even close, I love "Dear Mama" it gave him critical success, but unfortunately that does not mean anything. And remember the death had more to do with his success than any thing else, before that it was the 5 shots, but as far as commercial acceptance "musically" it was Cali Love. (both versions)
-
Dont forget Eve! ... Eve of Destruction ;)
best:
NWA
Eminem
Snoop
Xzibit
Truth Hurts

What means he put them together, it was his Idea, when Dre and Cube were already on Ruthless only cuz HBO didn't want to rap Cubes lyrics for Boyz N The Hood, but Dre was down with Cube befor Eazy was and Yella was in The World Class Wreckin' Cru with Dre.
Eazy brought Ren.
And Ruthless wasn't sucessful befo Dre and Cube joined for writin/producin
I ain't taking no credit from Eazy, but their commercial sucess was mostly cuz of Dre.
And The Pound would also be nothin compared to what they are / were, the sucess of all them former Death Row members and Death Row itself was of course not only but on the most cause of Dre.
-
Haha You fools that are sayin NWA dont know shit what you talkin about! ::)
Eazy-E brought Dre in from the Wreckin Crew, he founded Ruthless Records, Without Eazy Dre would still be in his shiny suit and lipstick dancin on stage with Lonzo.
-
Dre has been involved with way more success than anyone else in the history of rap music, end of story. Whether it be bringing someone in the game, or bringing them to even greater success, Dre has done it.
Say hi to bad guy, :-X how could you just skip over Eminem, DOgg Pound, Warren G, Nate Dogg (if Snoop wouldnt have got on, neither would they possibly),
think before you post ; just cuz you dont like Dre doesnt mean he hasn't brought people in the game.
Another thing: i hate that Xzibit works with Dre now, it fucking blows! However, to say Xzibit was gonna be as big a star without Dre is LUDICROUS! THat would mean no Bitch please (the song that brought Xzibit to the masses), and no 2001 and the resulting tour (where he really got known)...
-
NWA wouldnt of worked without Dre, but it wouldnt of worked without Ice Cube, it wouldnt of worked with out MC Ren, it wouldnt of work, especially, without Eazy-E. I don't think one person of NWA brought them into the game. It was more of a combined thing.
But others dre brought into the game.
Ice Cube (dre was producing for him before NWA wasnt he?)
Eazy-E's solo career was dependent on Dre. Eazy-Duz-It wouldnt of being the old school classic without Dre.
Suge Knight - no dre, no deathrow, no suge knight.

Same can be send in reverse..without Dre N.W.A would be rapping over tehno drums and bass.

I used to have love for him, but now Im like fuck Dre. He's not doing anything to help the west coast. He's signing all these east coast muthafuckas, he signing all these old muthafuckas. The west coast needs something new, some youngstas and dre is signing 50 cent Dre is signing Ice Cube. Ice Cube is a fucking actor now, his best raping days are behind him. I know ya'll thinking Eminem signed 50 cent but Em can't do shit with Dre giving it the O.K. Dre aint west coast no more. I respect him for what he has done for west coast hip-hop but lately he's just hurting it. I think it's fucked up how Dre let Hit Man get droped. If the case was bad songs, Muthafucka you Dr.Dre Make Hit Man some tight shit. He throws everyone on the back burner for Eminem. The only peeps he brought into the game was Snoop and Eve, everybody else ya'll named was already in the game. Knoc, Em, Truth, all them was in the game on way or another. Dre's not giving young west coast rapers a chance.
People talk about snoop going East coast(which is true) but look at Your dear Dr. Dre too. But at least most of the people from Snoops label are from the West Coast(Rage is from V.A).
-
LOL if someone says "Rakim"
-
Truth Hurts
-
Hittman - lol
Xzbit was changed by his involvements with Dre
I'd say Xzbit owes snoop more credit than Dre, dre did him good on his albums, and produced b-please, but it was Snoop who put X ON b-please. Peace~
-
I like Dre and everything, but he isnt doing anything to help the people who helped him on The Chronic, The Chronic made Dre, yeah granted he was in World Class Wreckin Crew and NWA, but he was part of a group, his showcase was The Chronic.
Does he still show love to any of the artists that was on there,
NO!!!!!!!!
Dre is a sellout, does he help Snoop, DPG, Warren, Nate, Lady Of Rage, D.O.C, Jewell
No............they helped Dre on The Chronic, and what does he show them, nothing.
-
bullshit
Snoop - doesn't even want Dre on Paid The Cost, coz he's trying to prove he can exist without Dre.
DPG - Kurupt was on 2001 + had housewife, daz been dissing him till recently
Warren - what was the first single from his last album again? how long did warren say dre gave him? a month! + was on up in smoke when career was already flaggin
Nate - also had a dre track on last album had major exposure due to 'the next episode' but cant blow up on his own
Lady Of Rage - was off doing the movie thing
D.O.C - came along on up in smoke for the ride...
Jewell - last worked together on snoops just dippin right?
lalala
without dre putting these people on in the first place most of them wouldnt even exist!
-

You know what's awesome? They're always talking about the Roadium in 85. Well, in 85, I was 7 living in Fresno, CA and I used to go down to the same type of place, it wasn't the Roadium, but it was an old drive in movie theatre that was a drivein. The place was so huge, you could really get lost, there were about 4 screens, which is huge for a drivein. It had tall metal sheeting surrounding the place, like a fence, about 15 feet high, painted orange, red, blue, green, yellow, the colors of the rainbow. I used to be there every weekend with my pops when I was 4 or 5. Ahhhh, memories, that's the same crap Dre was doin' tryna push his tapes.
-
Now once again to the 2 Pac guy, Pac would have gotten just as sucessful whether California Love had been released as a single or not, and Dre isn't going to take any credit for Pac's success.
Warren G would have got into the game and been just as sucessful without Dre putting Regulate on the Above The Rim soundtrack, cause lets face it, if Dre hadn't snapped it up then somebody would cause it was such a dope track.
Also, the Dogg Pound has got nothing to do with Dre really. The were signed to Death Row, and would have been just as sucessful had they been on the Chronic or not, cause they didn't have to rely on Dre for beats like some of the other Row artists at the time.

So...look @ Snoop. His new album is more east coast than west. There are no real West coast rappers who deserve the chance. Hittman proved to be too weak...along with Knoc. That's why Dre didn't stay with them. They could not keep up with him. It's the truth. No one out in the West right now is pushing themselves like they should.
-
Dre has helped all these rappers blow up...Snoop,Xzibit,Eminem,DPG...Without Dre they wouldn't have been as sucessful as they are today...
-
How 'bout the whole DPG, huh? U ever thought of that?
