Title: 2009 Song of Year: Smoke On vs. If There's a Cure for This
Post by: Detox Iz Not Active on November 07, 2009, 09:17:13 AM
Hard choice, both are easily head and shoulders better then any track released this year

also shows how wack the west has become that 10 year old unreleased tracks are better then anything has put out in 2009

Both dope tracks, I don't know about calling them the  best songs of the year though. I voted "Smoke On", we smoked last night to this for the homies b day.

Btw did the dirty version leak? That's the only negative

I'd pick Smoke On, just because it has somewhat of a message. Whereas If There's a Cure for This has a sick beat and hook but the lyrics are basically a freestyle.

That's whats dope I reckon, just two of the greatest in their prime having fine and shutting shit down, Pacs 2nd verse is a bit ehhh though lol

Have any examples to back that up? At least the sound quality is better. I doubt you paid attention to any part of California outside of Long Beach or DPG. You listen to Nipsey Hussle or Ya Boy or Roscoe's mixtapes? How can you compare them to songs which were taken off albums because they weren't good enough to the artist.

As for the poll:
Smoke On

I was underwhelmed by If There's A Cure. Maybe because the song Ras Kass made with the same sample was in my personal rotation for so long but it was just alright.

I think there's actually been a lot of dope music in the last few months for 2009. Unreleased Death Row is cool but I don't think any of that stuff was best material for the year.

both tracks r cool but they're nothing to shit yourself over.  i like "smoke on" but they really shoulda came with that gangsta shit for the chronic re-lit and saved "smoke on" and "if there's a cure" for the lost sessions.

Went for Smoke on because its an actual track as opposed to a freestyle.  Still don't think it's track of the year though.

I'd pick Smoke On, since it used the sample of Float On by The Floaters, and I've always loved this song. One of those old soulful classics that sounds good from almost anybody in Hip Hop. It's been used many times before in the past, by Warren G, Big Daddy Kane, Battlecat (twice) Lords of The Underground, Termanology, Mac from No Limit, probably tons more. Probably one of the most sampled songs in Hip Hop, and it's easy to see why

If There's a Cure for this. Also loved the Love Hangover song this came from, but could never see this fitting into a rap song
