Straight up, the last 10 years were decent, and some good hip-hop has come from this decade. I will do a decade in review in the next month. But for now I want to highlight the good shit from the last 10 years.

Kanye started off the decade good & was the shit up until two years ago; right after Graduation dropped.
Eminem owned this decade.
50 Cent came out with some fire, had one of the biggest singles in hip hop history (In Da Club & Candyshop did pretty good too).
we saw different sides of Wayne throught the years; but as of today is the biggest name in the industry.
Nas & Jay patched up the beef & both still put out some dope music.
The Game showed up, he made some cool music; but is steadily declining.
Joe Budden, Royce Da 5'9'', Crooked I & Joell Ortiz teamed up just this year & formed a lyrically monsterous supergroup & all are improving with each release; the white light for the future.
i'm probably forgetting shit, but it's all good; good decade. 8)

+1 on posting that Killer Mike joint... I just downloaded that again for the first time in years the other day
really brings back memories bumpin' that joint 8)
-
You got some real great selections there. All things considered, there was some excellent music produced but the last three or so years have kind of been mediocre. I will say that 4th Quarter 2009 has brought some great music out so far though.
-
that Nas/Scarface joint is ill...
i think it has been a good decade in a lot of ways, but the bad is starting to outweigh the good, weeding out the good from the rest is becoming more and more difficult
i'll be curious to read your decade review 8)

Cunninglynguists made there debut in 2001 and have dropped 8 LPs since that and hav yet to relace a wack cd. I think they deserve a place up there for this decade. KNO is one of the best producer..

There's been way too much good music to have highlights. Way too many to list. Here's a few less huge albums/songs that imo >>>>>>>>> the first list.
This is my favorite song from the Deltro 3030 album. One of my favorite albums ever. From top to bottom its near flawless, from amazing production, Del's zany wordplay at its best, and the whole futuristic concept of the album is executed perfectly.

This decade gave birth to Immortal Technique, who made much noise. This is probably my favorite song from him.

The Madvillainy album was actually pretty big when it came out. I've never gotten into Doom because I don't like his voice, but I can't front on this album.

Jay Electronica is the shit. I haven't heard a weak song from him yet. He's definitely got an eye for unique beats and has the rhymes as well.

Erick Sermon has been doing his solo thing ever since EPMD disbanded. I remember this song when it came out was my jam.

This album is a masterpiece. Has to be one of the greatest conceptual records ever. Masta Ace deserves to be a household name.

Classic Meth/Lauryn Hill collab. Enough said.

A great conceptual song from Elzhi's debut album. One of the best albums of 08, and in my mind its what put him on Royce's level, if not better.

Premo came with it on this one. A great album as well. This is how I first heard about Reks. I still haven't gotten around to checking out his debut. Shame on me.

I think in terms of albums, not songs. I don't understand why folks be saying hip-hop is dead. Nas takes an L for that shit.
Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor
Reks Grey Hairs & More Grey Hairs (slept on)
Immortal Technique's Revolutionary Volume 2
50's Get Rich or Die Tryin'
The Game's Documentary
Bishop Lamont's The Confessional (slept on)
Black Milk's Tronic
Black Milk & Bishop Lamont's Caltroit
Nas's Street Disciple
Jay-Z The Blueprint
Dead Prez Let's Get Free
POS's Never Better (slept on...still early but it'll stand the test of time)
Common's Be
Kanye West College Dropout & Late Registration
Elzhi's Preface
MIA's Kala
Ebony Bones Bone of my Bones
The Streets

Nas didn't say hip hop was dead for people to take it literally. People took that and misused it as a platform to bitch and complain about music. What he actually meant was the business aspect of the hip hop industry and artists being used by people who have no connection to the music culture.

I understand but the cost wasn't worth it. It was just a fucking marketing gimmick

From what I gathered, he felt like Hip-Hop lost touch with it's roots, and he just wanted to bring it back.

Hip-Hop was really really dope and entertaining between 2000-2005
after that?
E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G has been goin downhill since.
There hasn't been 1 classic album in between 2006-2009
Before that we had GRODT, The Documentary, College Dropout, Restless, Stillmatic etc etc
we had Nas vs Jay-Z, Game vs 50 etc
