Bruce Gradkowski will be the starting QB.
what a BUST!
they should just tank & get McCoy.

It's been a long time coming.

It's been a long time coming.
bigger bust than Ryan Leaf? :P

More like Blair Thomas. :P

hes the biggest bust in history
-
No way hes even close to Ryan Leaf. The thing about Russell is he's never had true competition to light a fire under his ass. He came in knowing he could sit on his ass and be the starter. They're gonna do the same thing 49ers did with Alex Smith make him earn the spot again. Or like what the Titans did, wait until the veteran is struggling and have no other option. Which ever comes first.
-
We could at least start someone... Gradkowski sucks. We need at least a true vet. :P
-
i smell Jeff Garcia in the Raiders future. :P
...or Colt McCoy lol.
-
Jamarcus Russell will be benched.
GOOD

There was Jeff Garcia but they got rid of him instead. SfGate site has Raider fans saying he's the worst in Raiders history, worst than Marc Wilson, don't remember him playing but I do remember Rusty Hilger. When I saw hilger play, it was the 1st time I ever used the word sucks cause he did just that. Raider fans hate Russell's guts. Has there been any player in sports more hated by his team's fans like Jamarcus Russell? :-\ Kyle Boller hasn't been that hated by me & other raven fans. Joey Harrington in Etroit maybe but he was used as the team's scapegoat for their sorry ass defense. Now the fans are doing the same thing as Matthew Stafford, blame the front office for blowing the 2009 draft.
-
^Stafford is gonna be damn good and correct me if i'm wrong but the Det. fans have begun to warm up to him.
-
I see Oakland either going for one of the QBs coming up in the draft (McCoy), or if Vick is available after this season, them going after him.
-
What Oakland really needs to go after is a good scout lol
-
Bey was the first WR taken in the draft..and probably the worst of the first round :-\
Crabtree, Britt, Nicks, Maclin, Harvin >>>>>> Bey

Yeah Al Davis is not a good one at all. The funny thing is, I believe we even had a shot at drafting Crabtree or Maclin. Same with Calvin Johnson, who I wanted them to draft back then anyways.

yeah with good scouting this team would be so good :-\
Al Davis is a joke

the Raiders should just give up lol.
i don't see a good team out of Oakland for the next 10 years.

Nah I would not go that far. It is simple with Oakland, as long as Al is running that team, there will be no change. We need some stability from the front office all the way down to the players and the coaching staff.

you have to figure another 4-5 years of Davis & then they need to rebuild something; sounds like a long process.
but the bright side is that if you keep losing, you keep getting high draft picks; just get smart with them & you're good. :P

But you can never rebuild if you are constantly changing players and coaching staff. That is the problem, there is no direction or plan it seems like. Now if we get rid of Cable at the end of the year, that is another coach gone, and the list of candidates that even WANT to coach in that environment is slim to none and slim is on vacation.

this is true.
it's a safe bet Cable will be out after the season.
you'll probably find some offensive coordinator who wants to the head job of a team.

I always liked Gruden as the coach there. But him and Davis clashed too much. Art Shell was too old school, Kiffin don't even get me started on him, and Cable is WWE.

Cable is a fucking animal, he has to OD on the roids lol.
i love Gruden as a coach, when he makes his comeback (it's coming), some team will heading down the right path with him.
what you guys really needed was a QB, but Russell was a major bust; go draft Sam Bradford lol.

To say Al Davis is a terrible owner is stupid. No one wants to win more than this guy. He tried last year and the year before with big name free agent busts, like DeAngelo Hall and Javon Walker. I was excited as hell to get Hall but grew frustrated with him constantly giving up big plays. He acquired Richard Seymour this year which I thought was a great move. The thing with Davis is he's got that old school football mentality. Based on speed and a big armed QB that could could play catch all day with that vertical passing game that he loves. He does not like blitzing. He believes a natural 4-man pass rush should be enough to apply pressure, hence the acquistion of Seymour. Nnamdi Asomugha joked after we beat the Eagles that our D-Coordinator was going to get yelled at because we blitzed more in that game than probably the previous 5 games combined. The game has evolved so much that you really can't do that anymore.
Hopefully he is able to lure Gruden back though. Shit I know it's a long shot to get Gruden, but he was a damn good coach. That's back when we had Bruce Allen at GM, he was our salary cap genius that would restructure everyone's contract so we were under the limit. Gruden knew how to deal with Davis. When Al would make suggestions of gameplans to implement, Gruden would put together a tape and send it to Davis and show him why it would not work. Al Davis liked this because it showed that he considered his ideas, so he gave him a little more control than he would other coaches. If we could get Gruden back he would cement some damn discipline in this team again.

Two things I'd do if I was Al Davis at the end of this season, trade for Michael Vick at the end of the season, and find a way to hire Jon Gruden back.
1. Why trade for Michael Vick, he is a talented QB, who may not be what he was a few years ago, but when he was in Atlanta he'd take 4-12 teams and lead them to the playoffs. He was a threat every single time he hit the field and his unpredictable would be what the Raiders need as their running game is just too dangerous to not have a threat at QB. Bush, Fargas and McFadden are wasting as everyone knows they are the Raiders biggest offensive threat. Maybe drafting McCoy would do, but I'm not ready to give up on Russell yet. There have been some QBs who didn't pan out until their 25 or 26, and Russell is only 24 right now. The craziness of the Raiders organization lately has hurt that kid more than anything, and if they can get a good system there, and a veteran QB to lead the transition while he matures more, then Russell could have a future. But that would require...
2. TO GET GRUDEN BACK BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. I hated getting rid of Gruden in 2002, and even though his may favorite on MNF, I hate every time his on the mic and not coaching the Raiders. His even made a joke about the Raiders, like when Charles Woodson was playing and got a penalty, Gruden said that wasn't a penalty, "that's good, hard RAIDER football." Gruden fits as Raiders coach like Cower did the Steelers, or Dungy did the Colts. He didn't get along with Al Davis, but Al Davis respected coaches that could make a legit argument on why his wrong. He didn't like Kiffin because he didn't feel respected by him. With Gruden, he knew he was respected, and even though he disagreed, as long as they won Al could over look it. I think it's time for Al to call up Gruden, tell him the past is the past and lets win this thing together. With Gruden, you have discipline and a stable franchise and system. One that a young QB like Russell can grow into, and mature into a great player. Gruden loves to work with QBs, and Russell would be the ultimate benefactor to all of this.
Here's the thing, it's all a long shot, especially Gruden. but Al Davis as done crazy things before, like trade for a Randy Moss, or Warren Sapp when it seemed like that was the spark needed to win. Al wants to win badly, and I think this is what he needs to do, and not pull the plug on Gruden if the first few years look bad. Will Al swallow his pride and do it, that's the question, and will Gruden even want back on the sidelines, that's a tough call if his option is working for Al Davis again. Who knows what the off season will bring, but look for Cable to be gone, when the coach is causing much of the dysfunction in the franchise, you can allow for this to continue.
