The old way was set up for the labels to get money Just from album sales.

 360  deal means that the label gets money not only from album sales, but also from concert ticket sales, merchandise sales, also Tv and Movie Deals.

Touring and merchandise back in the day traditionally was the big money makers for artists. today album sales usually make very little money for most artist .... So the big boys (Record labels) came up with 360 deals... Peace from Jazzy Management...
