Well as expected its a pretty good album, productions is top notch!

Showin Out has a MONSTER beat. Simillar vibe to Common's "Gladiator".

After 1 listen my only complaints is that Never Stop sounds repetitive, almost too mixtape-ish and that "I'm Good" and "Champion" sound way too similar. The rest is all great, production is so clean and big and there's several stand out tracks. No average shit on this one.

Definitely a strong contester for album of the year.

Damn after several listens I'm still shocked, that album is musically on another level  :o
Since their first album, Clipse music always been one step above the rest and this effort proves it right!
My favorite song so far "Counseling" is just CRAZY  8)

only track i'd listened to before this was kinda like a big deal

this would definitely be in my top 3 albums for the whole year, it is really fucking dope. even cam's verse on popular demand is good. can't wait to rip myself a lossless copy.

Don't see the hype around Kobe. However Khalils beats are  8) As someone said I'm struggling to find an artist or group that have put out 3 albums as good as the Clipse's this decade! Sean C & LV killed their beats to.

One thing I'd say is that some of the hooks are a little weak in comparison to their past albums. I'll post a proper review when I've copped the album.

Good album, but nowhere near "album of the year" contender.
Neptunes beats sound too repetitive, and Camron, Pharrell & Kanye all made annoying cameos.. and while we're at it, I've heard Khalil better than on the 3 beats he did here.

Title: Re: Clipse - 'Til The Casket Drops (Discussion thread - no asking for links)
Post by: Matty on November 29, 2009, 12:15:19 PM
i pretty much agree. the neptunes production really didn't do much for me and that's the bulk of the album. 'Counseling' is dope though, more of an old school neptunes sound. the khalil tracks are all good and extremely layered, but kinda like a big deal really stands out as the best track.
Title: Re: Clipse - 'Til The Casket Drops (Discussion thread - no asking for links)
Post by: Young Dan Iza on November 29, 2009, 01:35:40 PM
neptunes production really has been suckin lately besides showin out! this one is a monter along with the freedom!
Title: Re: Clipse - 'Til The Casket Drops (Discussion thread - no asking for links)
Post by: Meho on November 29, 2009, 02:52:47 PM
I always liked Pharrell on the hooks, very smooth and catchy (That new CL slide, outside of Popeyes, eatin’ chicken and fries). Kanye killed his verse but Camron really sucked.

Other than that Neptunes did a great job imo: Popular Demand, Showing Out, Doorman and Eyes On Me are all crazy imo. Then you have Counseling and Life Change that are cool. They went with a specific vibe for Khalil, nothing to omg! worthy but sort of laid back bangers.
Title: Re: Clipse - 'Til The Casket Drops (Discussion thread - no asking for links)
Post by: Action! on November 29, 2009, 06:06:41 PM
Khalil proved his diversity with his project.  He made some laid back bangers not on some sci-fi shit.   Kind of reminds me of some of his production for self-scientific but better

Really dying to hear this but not sure I wanna ruin the listening experience with a non group rip. I'll be picking up on the 8th regardless. Clipse is one my favorite duos ever  8)

We all KNOW that Khalil has some deadly beats with Kobe on the hook in the vault, as heard from those "Making of" videos

Post by: Action! on November 29, 2009, 07:34:49 PM
If you haven't heard this yet do yourself a favor and wait for a non-web rip because it's shitty .... but damn it's really that dope a web rib don't bother me.  Such solid production.  Great atmosphere.  Second album within two months that has had really solid atmosphere (50's bisd than this).

there's a non-web rip out, encoded @ 221kbps vbr

i think scene/group rip rules are still @ ~ 190kbps, so it's probably better than the grouprip that's going to leak

with every line written, and all i have given
music's been nothin more than a self made prison
i've taken inmate losses at the hands of this one
my peers been the poison to family and friendships
now it's time to mention, time to bring closure to
the clear conscious of pusha is long over due
thinkin to myself what could i be owing u?
they'll only tell u the great when they're reminiscing over u
before i trouble t roy (?) it's just the b boy
let me play the role of a common on his b boy
speaking my truth in rhyme, no matter how bland it is
a heavy heart lightened that's just what my ransom is
all apologies are better across (?) i wear the blame
we in the same group but i don't share my brothers pain
not to confuse our sentiment is all the same
i just don't feel nothing, i'm numb by the will to gain
same thing brought tears to innocence
i turned away and didn't even flinch
the music drove me crazy,
looked up and lost the first bitch i ever wanted to have my babies
nowadays she cant even face me, i'm sorry for the heart break
i promised u forever my lady, jodeci baby
pompous mutha fucka just look what them jewels made me
i'm only finding comfort in knowing u can't replace me
what a thing to say, but what am i do?
i'm role playing a conscious ni**a and true is true
cocaine aside all of the glories be who?
my critics finally have a verse of mine to jerk off too

another awesome fuckin album. Sounds like more of a mix of album #1 and #2. This album has the hot hip-hop joints (freedom, life change, etc) like the last album but it also has more mainstream friendly joints like album #1 (grindin, whens the last time, ma i dont love her) to keep it selling better than album 2

Yeah, I'm really digging this album.  Especially the Khalil produced tracks.  On Footsteps he gets that Mos Def type flow.  Taking it back to the Jamaican roots.

I do have to say he sounds annoyed that he had to confess his raps weren't completely true.

Quote
It weighs on my conscience and I hate conscience raps
apart from that I wish to see you succeed
so I speak to my people in the spirit of Chuck D
you behind the glass trust me it cut deep
than the words to every verse haunted me in my sleep
so now what you see is Malice in contradiction
he who has ears hope you're listening, come on!

Dope

I replay this verse every time I listen to this song. One of the best verses I've heard. Album's hot: love "Freedom", "Popeyes", "Kinda Like A Big Deal (Kanye kills it!)", "Showin' Out", "There Was A Murder (love the rastafarian vibe/beat, flows, Kobe, everything), "Door Man", "Never Will It Stop", "Footsteps". Khalil came w/ it.

Pretty good numbers for them seeing as they aren't huge in mainstream. Plus they are under shipped at the moment.

yeah same here but the 50-60 wouldn't surprise me either cuz they do have a pretty loyal fanbase
