it's classic from his earlier discography, but Quik was still evolving his sound at that time. The next album is where his music really gets popping 8)

yeah rhythm-al-ism was on a different level. nothing sounds like it.
but i still think Safe & Sound is his best album.

its not just that one album. everything since then has been on a particular level of musical genius. far beyond the production on the first few albums.

I would call Rhythm-al-ism one of the top 5 best produced hip hop albums I have ever heard. That album is some virtuoso shit.

Damn, we need to hear that album quik produced for Danny Boy, cuz that was made at Quik's peak...

Also, on that note, how sick is Quik's producion on The Shit by 2nd II None?? Some of those beats are incredible.

I bet if they actually released The Shit in '94, it would've at least gone Gold.

CLASSICS
1. Safe + Sound (my favorite hands down)
2. Rhythm-al-ism (best rap album ever production-wise)
3. Balance & Options (sounds fresh even 10 years later, could come out today.. but fuck the fillers)

DOPE
4. Trauma (welcome back Quik!)
5. Quik Is The Name (now this is a classic, but it's old school)
6. Way 2 Fonky (no hits, I like it but he fuck'd up his career with this album)

OK
7. Under The Influence
8. BlaQKout

i think 'Under Tha Influence' is one of the stronger releases, never really understood why people generally think it's one of the weaker ones.

Whatever way you look at it, it's one of the best discographies in music, let alone hip hop. An album every three years too.

SAFE + SOUND was Quik's best HANDS DOWN. He's had a slew of excellent records but SAFE + SOUND takes the fucking cake. The man is a genius.

right, well go head, have fun, but to alotta ppl (especially myself) Quik is still tha nigga but threads like these r pretty much a waste of time and space.  well, not completely i guess- but a "throwback" section is definitely warranted now, especially with 2010 coming up.  what... it'll be a decade and a few since ppl were first starting to talk about how the westcoast was blackballed outta tha limelight  ::) or whatever other usual excuse/topic/claim/cliche/setback the Westcoast has had.  maybe the new section on here should be called "glory days" or somethin like that.

"Trauma" is a great album.  I think it's largely overlooked.  It even had a few tracks with rappers featured that I don't normally listen to, but who sounded dope on this album.  It's maybe not my favorite Quik album, but it's certainly up there.
