In the event that you have not heard, We The West and Rap Star Promo's One West Million DJ Conference Call was a complete success. The historic conference connected several artists and DJs to discuss the current state of West Coast Hip Hop. Of course, this event could not be completed without a call from Long Beach's Crooked I.
The West Coast Conference Call granted Crooked I not only the opportunity to communicate with fans, but his peers from the West Coast as well. While Crooked I discussed several issues regarding the current state of the West Coast and his recent experience in touring the country, he confirmed some interesting information that fans will be excited to hear. It has finally been confirmed that Crooked I will be re-releasing a full length Mr. Pig Face Weapon Waist LP in January which features seven brand new songs. Additionally, the project will be supported by several music videos which will accompany the album's release. Although it has not yet been confirmed, it is quite possible that one video could indeed be the rumored Guess Who's Back single which features Snoop Dogg. Unfortunately, further details regarding this project were not revealed, but this is a nice surprise for fans. We have posted a snippet of this conversation which can be downloaded using the link included below.
Other interesting topics that were raised by Crooked I included upcoming music video's from The Horse Shoe G.A.N.G.'s debut album Gangsta MC as well as future project's from Jazzy Management and ConiYac. We will make certain to present additional information regarding these topics as they become available. In the mean time, please keep it locked to The B.O.S.S. Board for further Crooked I news updates.

which features seven brand new songs.
Lame.. most of the EP already feature somewhat old tracks, they will be even more played out by the time the LP gets released.. in 2053.
-
This is kind of lame. If it wasn't for the fact that it's Crooked I, I probably wouldn't support this. Rather than seeing a re-release of this with a few new tracks, I'd be much more interested in finally getting to hear "B.O.S.S." What's funny is if this comes out and it's not amazing from start to end, I can see a bunch of Crooked I fans saying things like "well, this still wasn't his official first album," even though it clearly says it's an LP, so I don't know what else you'd call it.
On the plus side, maybe we'll finally get to hear the track he did with Raekwon and the "Monumental" track with Slaughterhouse, that were originally supposed to be on the e.p., but were later removed.

Looking forward to some new Crooked I music. Shame there are still no new plans for BOSS album.

this ain´t new...unfornatly. but on the real im very exciting about this upcoimng lp, we all know that crook will be pushing this back agaon remember the ep pushed 3 times??? and this is an lp? so we´re gettin 6-9times push backs...I hope im wrong, but crook is the king of push backs.
-
EP was tite, if he is releasin an LP version he should keep the best tracks (if not remixs of em) plus the new songs. Make a video for Make a Phone Call and put out a long awaited album.
Isnt there a video being made for Mr Pigface?
-
'shoulda made a phone call' and 'one more time' were the best tracks on the ep. should keep those two, maybe the title track, and no others ideally. hopefully he is going to use the tracks recorded a while back with khalil too.
-
I'm still a big fan of Crook and will support whatever he does, but ever since hearing "this year I'm dropping BOSS I promise" in '07 and it's about to be 2010, I'm not expecting or anticipating anything, but when I see it I'll believe it and cop it

I mean, new as unheard, unreleased.

Isnt there a video being made for Mr Pigface?
The video for Mr. Pig Face is completed, not sure when it's dropping though, but should be VERY soon.
I have to agree with JohnnyL, I hope the track featuring Raekwon, Edi and ConiYac drops. Of course, that's assuming he gets the sample for it cleared which caused it to be removed in the first place.
-
Wasn't feeling the ep. He's got a lot more potential than cliche lame tracks like guess who's back

Interesting. I never knew that was why it was removed. I guess I assumed it had something to do with the Raekwon/Joe Budden situation. I guess if Crooked I couldn't get the sample cleared, we can't really blame him for it being removed, the first go-round. Effex, do you know why the Slaughterhouse track was removed? Was it also a sampling issue or more of a creative choice to hold it back for a later project?

Yeah, he said he was pushing to get the sample clearance over and over again, which of course lead to the EP being delayed. It's interesting too because the people who he was clearing it through have cleared stuff for him in the past. Perhaps they have been able to work something out in the mean time.
I have no information on "Monumental" at all, I really haven't looked into it that much to be honest. If I come up with anything I'll be sure to let you know.

Yeah. Interesting too, that he seemingly wasn't able to get the sample clearance for the Raekwon track in time to put it on the "Pig Face, Weapon Waist" E.P., but was apparently able to get the clearance to use "Woodstock, Hood Hop," when they had previously been unable to get the clearance to use it for the Slaughterhouse album.
As far the the "Monumental" track, the last thing I remember hearing was that it was supposed to replace "We Outta Here" on "Pig Face, Weapon Waist," when Joe Budden decided to use "We Outta Here" on "The Escape Route." Don't know what happened between then and when "Pig Face, Weapon Waist" was released.

If you're going to release an LP extended from an EP, then that LP should have remixes or alternatives mixes of EP tracks (should any get from the EP even get re-used) or if an EP track is going to have a video for the LP then it's cool to add it.
Crooked I has done almost every type of marketing possible:
Controversial label
Videos
Features on multi-platinum mainstream Murder Inc
Mixtapes
Beefs
Platinum producer beats (from Storch when he was huge)
Free Weekly freestyle downloads every week for an entire year
Low budget screen movies
Interviews
Magazine entries
Photo Shoots
Group album
I mean, he's pretty much covered every base possible, and if he's going to fk up his solo career taken off by putting out a portioned CD release, which will have a bunch of tracks people already have, then he's just got himself to blame, considering he's been more than generous by firing out weekly freestyle rap sessions, and mixtapes, what's a couple of extra new songs?
-
dude wants to go diamond

So is this release hitting store shelves?

So is this release hitting store shelves?
That has not been announced yet, this is just confirmation of something that was talked about a couple weeks ago.
I'm sure we'll get more information in the coming weeks.

Maybe he goes like 'it's technically an LP but it's only digital that's why it's not the long awaited debut album'. ;)

CD's > Digital only releases

That's going to be my excuse, LOL! 8)

come on crooked, just drop boss for free, then drop a album and see how things take off from there.
-
He's holding off for now. He's going to be dropping Weapon Waist LP in digital format in all major MP3 downloadable sites such as I-Tunes and Amazon, then in 2010 he'll be dropping a "decade mixtape" next year containing ten hot unheard tracks, from 2000-2010, then another Slaughterhouse project in mid-2010, a few more mixtapes, then his solo will drop in 2012. Can't wait!

Damn. He's managed to push his album all the way back to the official "end of the world." When Crooked pushes something back, he goes all out.
-
2012 means that the release is spiritual, that it truly defines his entity as 'Untouchable'. His CD solo will drop and cause the entire world to survive because of it. A tremendously epic release, and from there on out, we will have no problems in solo releases there on after
If he doesn't drop a solo album by 2012 he may as well see it as the end of 'his' world

So this will be the guys Debut solo album? Or a mixtape?

So this will be the guys Debut solo album? Or a mixtape?
I'm going to say it's his debut solo. After all, it's original production, it's a full-length album, and it's not a free download. So unless he drops something else before then that meets those criteria, I'm going to say that it's his debut solo. I know there are some who probably won't see it that way, particularly if it ends up only being a pay download. But I think it meets enough of the criteria for an album to be considered one. After all, it's definitely not a mixtape, and it's not an e.p. this time. The thing is, with Crooked, you never know if or when this project will be released. So even though I would consider it his debut solo, it still needs to come out first before it can be counted as anything.
-
I would guess mixtape.
His EP hasn't secured enough to put out "videos" to a a media outlet which would reach a reasonably sized audience, so I doubt there's a big budget waiting for him for the LP of the same nature as his EP.
He'll drop this as an MP3 downloadable album only, and then excuse it's lack of predicted sales down to a "it was promotion for a slaughterhouse 2" project cover, where the responsibility of that failure is then down to 3 other men if that doesn't reach expected sales numbers.
Crooked I just needs to put out albums to retain a frustrated fan base. He's starting to remind me of the likes of a Suge Knight or a Dr Dre - scared to put out anything which wont go platinum or at least gold, but Crooked I doesn't exactly have a decorative legacy of platinum success of Dr Dre or Suge Knight so there's no excuse

But I think a lot of projects meet that critertia but aren't neccearily considered official albums. I mean, Bishop Lamont has dropped a gang of mixtapes with all new material written over original production. So have Saigon, Spider Loc, and many others. I would especially say no if it's just a digital release.

That's a pretty good point. But on the other hand, if it's being released as the "Mr. Pig Face, Weapon Waist" LP, it seems to me that it's being billed as an album. I figure this point will probably be continually debated though. I can understand too why some might consider a digital release verses physical copies to be the difference maker. Personally though, I don't really think so. After all, more artists are beginning to go the strictly digital route, anymore. I think it really has more to do with whether the project is released independently verses being released by a major record label. MC Ren's last album was digital download only. It seems like Daz has had a couple albums recently that were either digital download only, or had a very limited release as actual cds. I think Horseshoe Gang's album was a digital release only. These are interesting points to debate, but to me, I think I would consider this an album (provided it actually comes out).

If it was the best album ever made it wouldn't go platinum. He needs to give up on that pipe dream. There's indie dudes dropping albums that don't sell all the time, and maybe they don't see the record sales, but putting out quality albums adds to their reputation and it gains them a bigger fan base. Crooked needs to follow suit.

We'll see what happens, but I totally hear where you are coming from.

Lol. Okay. I suppose I could concede that it's a "Street Album," as it probably isn't what Crooked I has had in mind as releasing for his official debut LP. I mean, I'm not saying anyone's opinion on this is wrong. We're all really just arguing semantics here.

I guess it all comes down to how the artist themself presents it.
